  1. Thanks bk...Actually I was considering a DSN 113 dial. I originally picked the 111 because I wanted a Black dialed watch and a display back watch, and the 111h fit the bill. But now that I'll be building a 201a, that will be my black dial, so for the display back, I may just go with a white dial. I believe the DSN 113 is a pretty good dial...Unless anybody has a differing opinion???
  2. Damnit!! I hate when they do that!! When a watch is no longer available, TAKE IT DOWN OFF THE SITE!! OK...I feel much better. Thanks to all for the kind words. Looks like I'll have to settle for the DSN case back. OH...What do you all think about this movement? Will I have to remove the seconds sub dial gear? Thanks again, Mike
  3. Looking forward to seeing more of you around adrenalin. You obviously "get it". And no offense mspark, but referring to The Zigmeister's response as "hostile" ain't the way to endear yourself to him. I didn't read it as hostile in the least. I look forward to seeing more of you around too. I'm sure you'll "get it" too very soon. Just read a lot and contribute whenever you can and you'll start to build relationships yourself. Good luck and welcome to you both.
  4. So now that I have a set of FGD's sweet ass dials coming, I'm trying to put together a case set that would be as accurate as possible with what's currently available. Let's start with the case back. It would seem like there a couple different of case backs used on the Gen 201a. Each one greatly resembles a different rep offering. I will compare the 2 Gens I have seen with reps from Trusty Andrew and DSN. Gen #1: Andrew's: Gen #2: DSN's: Now, let's discuss the pre -V case and the standard rep case. I've seen it stated on these boards that the standard rep case's lugs are too long and narrow as compared to the Gen pre-V case lugs which are shorter and fatter. I'm not so sure. I think a lot of this theory is based on pictures of both cases, or more prcisely, the angle of these pictures. Here is a profile shot of a Gen 201a: And now a shot from a similar angle of my standard rep case: I think the lugs in the above picture look a lot like the "stubby" lugs people associate with pre-V cases. I also think that this is due, at least in part, to the angle of the picture. Here are a couple shots of the same standard rep case where the lugs appear to be longer and narrower: Another piece of evidence that may support this is the Officine Panerai drawing that I'm sure many of you have seen. I'm not sure how accurate the drawing is, but the lugs look pretty long and narrow. As far as the CG goes, I think the best solution is the V CG. All the above rep shots are of my standard rep with the V CG installed. I think it compares very nicely to the Gen CG in the above profile shot. The last thing I want to talk about is the crystal. I believe the gen has sapphire with no AR. The only source I am aware of for sapphire crystals for this case is DSN. You can even order one without AR. It's a great crystal, but there is one thing about it that differs from the shots I've seen of gen crystals; that's the fact that it is made of high quality "pink" sapphire. Here is a profile shot of my DSN crystal installed in my standard rep case before I sent it off to chieftang for AR. Note - This shot is before I installed the V CG: One more shot: Notice the pink hue to the crystal? I don't think the Gen is like this, but I'll probably use one of these anyway since I don't have another source for sapphire crystals. So, I think my starting point for the case will be to buy this from Andrew: http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_pag...87e9fd473624cce This should be the standard rep case and it has the above pictured case back. Any thoughts or comments? Note - All the above rep shots were taken by me and are the same standard rep case. This case came from Trusty Andrew on his $158 111h. Thanks, Mike
  5. I'm in!! Just say when and where.
  6. As far as screwdrivers go, I would suggest these: http://www.fdjtool.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=SD1201A I know they are expensive, and I wasn't sure about spending that kind of cash on screwdrivers, but I haven't regretted it for a minute.
  7. Excellent article chief...Thanks for posting this.
  8. Don't you dare tell me what I think about anything!! You don't have a [censored]' clue what I'm thinking!! Take it somewhere else. Not in this thread...Not on this day. And that's all I'm going to say to you on this subject, so don't bother trying to bait me into anything.
  9. God bless this land and the souls that lost their lives on that day and continue to do so today. When I travel to NYC on business I usually stay at the Marriott Financial. Here is a shot I took a couple of years ago from the top floor of the Marriott of ground zero: A few more shots from the same trip: And my favorite:
  10. This is all very interesting to me. I just emailed David last week asking if his h sandwich dials were the same as the standard rep. He told me that if I wasn't happy with the standard rep dial, that I wouldn't be happy with his either. I'd be interested to see what he tells others.
  11. Beautiful piece CE...Can't wait to see the others!!
  12. Hey dog...Were you aware of that Cajun Straps are also available in cognac? You can see mine in this post: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=82216 @siesta - Very nice combo!!
  13. Nice...I've always liked that blue dialed north pole. And good luck on the 111 project.
  14. Thanks ST4...I'm really impressed with both the T crowns and the V CG. They both fit perfectly right out of the box. No modifications necessary.
  15. My 111h is moving right along. The latest addition is the T-60 crown. Even though T discovered his crowns had 12 more teeth than a gen crown, they still look great. The workmanship is top notch. If he decides to do a 48 tooth version, I'll replace this one, but until then, I'm more than happy with it. I tried to setup a makeshift light box, but the shots came out a little bright. Some day I'll invest a few bucks and buy a real one. I'm finally happy with the movement. I've swapped some gears and bridges with other movements, cleaned up the paint on the bridges, and regulated it to +2 sec/week. It will go to The Zigmeister in November for cannon pinion replacement and service. Other than that, I think it's done. I'm still in love with the V CG. Here are a couple shots that show the shape of this awesome little chunk of steel. Still to come: DSN sapphire crystal now with chieftang receiving double AR. Should be back in a couple of weeks. In November, it goes to The Zigmeister for the above mentioned work plus lume. I've kind of grown tired of the standard rep sandwich dial. I'm searching for a better dial. If I can't find a sandwich dial I'm happy with, I may end up switching to a 113 dial. Also, the strap is a custom made cognac gator from member xlr8tn's Cajun Straps. I love it!! Thanks for looking, Mike
  16. Congrats on the move. I grew up in the Sacramento area but spent many summers in L.A.. I had a lot of relatives down there. As Randy Newman says "I LOVE L.A.". I still try to get the kids out to Disneyland every couple of years. What beach is that in your porch pic? P.S. Have an In-n-Out double double for me!!
  17. How about one of these? http://www.panatime.com/24xlhogecrbo.html http://www.panatime.com/24xlsigecrbo.html Or check with member xlr8tn. He has a dark brown and a cognac gator skin. He can make one custom for you at a reasonable price. I have one in both colors. The brown in the one on my avitar watch pic, but the cognac is my favorite.
  18. OK...I need help from all the experts in this forum. I am working on a 111h project. So far, this watch consists of: Standard rep case from Andrew. Dagger swan neck, incabloc, decorated movement. V CG. T-60 crown. DSN sapphire crystal (away at chief's getting double AR). Standard rep sandwich dial Scheduled mods: Super The Zigmeister lume in Nov. Tall cannon pinion install from The Zigmeister in Nov. Movement serviced by The Zigmeister in Nov. I'm happy with everything but the standard rep sandwich dial. I don't like the shape of the numbers 2, 3, and 6, nor do I like the "L SWISS MADE L" proximity to the 6. I'm looking for alternatives. I'd love to get my hands on an old DSN sandwich dial like this one: But he doesn't sell these anymore. He now sells the same dial as the rest (standard rep). If I can't get one of those, I would either have to stay with the standard rep dial, or completely switch to something else. I was thinking of maybe a 113. Any thoughts on these, or other possible alternatives? Thanks, Mike
  19. Couldn't have said it better myself... ...And, if Jay Cutler doesn't emerge as one of the top QBs in the AFC this year, I'll be leading the Elway comeback movement!! Just kidding...Johnny Hero is a little too old now.
  20. Thank you sir...I'll pass on your wishes to him.
  21. My little buddy had his first birthday yesterday. I love this picture because even though he was all business about eating his cake, he kind looks like he's in a bit of agony here.
  22. Very nice watch. My biggest issue (and maybe only issue) with this watch is the faux 7 day register. Not that it is not functional (although I wish it were), but that all are set on the line between 6 and 7. I wish they would randomly vary where the hand points. You know that that's going to be the first sign it is a rep and it's very easy to spot. If someone that is rep savvy sees any Big Pilot of these with the hand in that position, they will immediately think it's a rep. But other than that...Awesome!!
  23. Natasha Kai is a hell of a player. I covered the US woman's national team in a pre-Olympic warm up a couple of weeks before the Olympics. They were playing the same Brazilian team they beat in Beijing for the gold. She's tough as nails!! You have plenty to be proud of!! A couple of shots I took of Natasha: Pregame:
