  1. I don't know from personal experience, but I remember reading some threads on Homage Forum in which this has been discussed. I'd go over there and read some of the threads in the Oyster section. Many people have been using both the Silix and Tiger cases for doing big crown builds, so there are a lot of threads to look at.
  2. This is just from memory of a thread over on Homage Forum, but the latest Tiger case is completely different now. Silix and Tiger have very different bezel construction now.
  3. Nice piece. As you wrote, it's probably not the last insert you'll have on it. [emoji2] I bet it will soften up and blend in as you wear it more often. I'm sure it will look better and better with each week of wear that goes by.
  4. Nice work. At least you are trying. That's the key here. Nobody can fault you for that! As you said, it's probably not the last insert you'll have on it. [emoji2]
  5. I actually didn't mod it. The original Noob V1 and V2 used to come with platinum paint. I bought this back in 2008. [emoji2]
  6. Nanuq, you have the most amazing vintage watchbox. Seriously, my absolute grail box. I want every piece in your collection. [emoji2]
  7. It looks damned nice to me! In fact, in that gen pic the SEL length is identical to the V5!!
  8. ^ In what way? Besides the elongated SEL in the new V5 bracelet, which can be solved by getting a V4 bracelet, what do you see as a major step back?
  9. Gorgeous 1665!! Yeah, the 3-series is indestructible. Think about it, though. It is one of the longest running auto series. They have had decades to work out bugs and issues. All of these new introductions are untested.
  10. If that's all you got, then it's pretty good. [emoji6] [emoji1] Seriously, we could nitpick the shape of the GMT hand's shaft. The rep shaft is a long, flat rectangle but the gen is skinnier and has curvature to it. That's more apparent but nobody will ever notice those details.
  11. Here's a great thread over on RWI in which a member is showing side by side pics of his gen parts compared to the new V2. He lays the insert on top of the gen insert and you cannot see any difference. He said the only difference is in the right lighting at the right angle, the gen turns a sort of brownish hue. but my gosh, you cannot tell the difference at all in most lighting situations. He said, and his pics prove, that it is that freaking good. Seriously. The dial and bezel insert are fan-freeking-tastic. http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/212145-Noob-Released-GMT-Master-II-v2
  12. Sweet project and those look fantastic. They would pair really nicely with my Bryston components. Funny that Audio Research and Magnepan were mentioned. A few years ago I was trying to help source funding for one of the original founders of Audio Research. He was looking to produce high end audio for the marine industry. It didn't really go anywhere while I was involved, due to the timing being right smack in the middle of the credit meltdown, but things may have happened since then. Magnepan is from White Bear Lake, which is where I grew up sailing. I like their monitors but man, they are just so stinking huge...
  13. Isn't it funny that they can get this right on the vintage sub cases but not on the modern ones? My 1680 case has the slope but these new ones don't.
  14. Wow. Man, I'm so excited just reading this. I'm living vicariously through these builds. I can't wait to see progress pics and the finished product. So cool![emoji2]
