Why Do You Think The Diameters Are Different?
By-Tor replied to MikeMitchell's topic in General Discussion
It's the same rep. -
Can't really tell from your picture, either. It's a bit blurry...almost invisible.

Hi I'm New - Question About Bracelet Resizing

I find it sometimes a bit unfair to criticize chrono reps with inaccurate subdial spacing because we simply don't have a rep movement to imitate watches with "closer" subdial arrangements. The reason why TAG Link and Breitling Fighters, etc. have correct spacing is because the Asian 7750 imitates ETA Valjoux which is used on these gens. IWC GST too, I assume. All Speedmaster replicas have incorrect spacing as well. You have to live with it... or get the quartz versions. The spacing isn't off because the rep factories can't (or don't want to) make them better... they're off because it's technically impossible to make the spacing correct with the 7750. Personally, I wouldn't mind rep factories moving towards "frozen subdial/stopwatch" watches with standard 21J movements. Others might disagree and they want a fully working chrono. But then you have to buy what's available. I think the PO Chrono rep is a beautiful watch... and I wrote in my Omega Guide that it has gotten a lot of unjustified "bad press" because of the new Breitlings and TAG Link had correct spacing (due to reasons I just wrote). There will never be a PO automatic Chrono with correct spacing. Complaining about it won't change this fact. PS: I'm also amazed that they haven't replicated the SMP Bond Chronograph. That watch would be fairly easy to do properly. They did the "polished bezel" version which was a bit of a disappointment (despite the correct spacing).

Great looking EXPI Alex!!! @xwoodbutch: Now that's a great Omega trio!!! I'm wearing this one. Different wrist shot, eh?
-
From a quick look it looks genuine...but the gigantic winding crown and pearl are the giveaways. Excellent though.

That Garfield hydro is a killer. If it only had the helium release valve I'd be all over it.
-
Not only "nice first attempt". I'd say the results are spectacular. Well done! PS: Would you mind telling us what kind of "hand files" you were using? You think sandpaper would work too? The reason I'm asking because I think it would be fun to attempt the cg mods myself (at some point).

How Many Watches In Your Collection Rec. Wrist Time?
By-Tor replied to ubiquitous's topic in General Discussion
I have only 7 watches left (eight is coming). I've traded many... and the ones I still have are all keepers. I wear every single one of them... some get worn more than others. I have traded some very nice watches... but they will have to go if they don't see any wrist time. I can wear one watch for about 3-4 days but that's a max. Sometimes I even change the watch twice a day. I'm trying to keep my collection as compact as possible and I have learned by trial and error which watches have a longtime appeal. I don't think there's even one single rep left that I absolutely _need_ anymore (from the current ones). I have two watches that I'd definitely like to buy in the future: TAG Aquaracer 2000 Chrono and Breitling Chronomat. Possibly I have to buy the gens since the rep factories apparently don't want to replicate them. Well... black Moon Watch is on my list too. Other than that I'm extremely happy with my current collection. All get regular wrist time. -
Bond Seamaster for me today.

Quartz reps are often very cool. The only one thing that bothers me with them is the wandering, useless 24h subregister. I wish the rep factories could freeze that by default, use the original subdial markings and the watch would have much more accurate look. Same problem with my Ebel quartz. Even though genuines might have the AUTOMATIC markings on the dial the rep factories should refrain from printing it on the quartz reps. Doesn't go well with those ticking stopwatches. Otherwise this is a damn fine looking piece. I actually considered it too at some point. I wouldn't mind getting the Formula-1 and Indy quartz reps, either. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful Patek. And if someone here deserves a gift it's you. You have been extremely generous and friendly to all members in the past. Congrats my friend!

Actually I've seen used Navitimers for a bit over $1K. If you consider that these will probably show up with the new Asian 7750 for $200 at some point in the future (River sells the TAG Link Chrono rep for $179 including shipping right now)... it means that you're paying more than $600 extra for the Swiss movement (with zero guarantee). Genuine TAGs with similar movement can be bought at those prices.
-
Yeah. Read them again. You're doing something wrong. Four biggest factors to shoot good pics: 1. Get enough light 2. Get enough light 3. Don't use a flash 4. Get enough light Daylight works surprisingly well. Have you tried it already?

@Olli: No probs mate. @Kingkite: No, I believe that watch isn't genuine. Looks similar to mine, eh? Thanks all. Yeah, I always wanted the "military" no-date model with snowflake hands. I find it amazing how little information of Tudor there is available. But I believe this gen Tudor model is heavily based on Rolex 5513. Probably identical, with just different hands, dial and movement of course. I'll do the review when I receive the watch... still trying to dig up more information.
-
Very cool. Good looking subdials and date font too. Wonder if our feedback had anything to do with it.
-
I purchased the watch mainly because I loved how it looks. I got a fair price too. It's virtually a MBW rep with a Tudor dial at worst... so I don't see any problem here. WM/Kenzo didn't make any false claims about it, either.
-
Since it looks like a 2842 movement with beat rate of 21.600... it would be correct for the vintage Rolex Submariner. But I wonder if the vintage Tudors all had 28.800 bph? Either way, according to the review it's a good and reliable movement. That's all I care. PS: Funny thing. Searched this watch and found this. The site looks shady to say at least... but the dial & hands look identical with the one I just purchased. The ad states "Calibre 40 automatic". Price: 700 Euros. http://www.inforeloj.com/spa/item/ART00296.html

Edit: Found Ziggy's answer. I haven't received the watch yet. Actually I'm delighted that it has a higher beat movement. The movement isn't genuine then... that's for sure... unless it's taken from a modern Tudor Hydronaut (I doubt it). Here's a 2842 image I found from Ofrei. Looks like it has markings "WATER RESISTANT" as well. Perhaps it's designed for glass back watches?

I just negotiated a fair deal with Kenzo/Watchmaster of this watch... and bought it. The watch is bit of a hybrid with thick SD bezel... but when I saw it just had to buy it... it's simply the best looking Sub I've ever seen. I love the no-dates... and especially the "square marker" Tudor which is a masterpiece. For some strange reason I always wanted a Tudor Sub rep... and favor it over Rolex. Yeah I know, ít's weird since the genuines can be found at fair prices... but like Ubi says...where's the fun in that? The question: Can someone identify the movement? It looks a standard ETA 2824 to me...but I wonder why it says "23 jewels on the rotor". Actually I couldn't give a rat's ass if it's genuine or not... I'd just like to know... out of curiosity. I'm 100% sure the case, bezel (both standard WM/MBW parts) and hands aren't genuine... but jury is still out on the movement. Thanks guys.

There have been some reps with faux chrono Asian 21J movement. Visually very nice but not that accurate. Neil used to have really nice Monacos for sale. Check this album out and contact him. http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp...name=TAG+MONACO

Yeah... I was wondering the same thing. The authorized Rolex dealers mod the reps only with a sledgehammer.

The "experts" Area Is Not Accomplishing What It Should Do...
By-Tor replied to RWG Technical's topic in The looney bin
I already posted in the summer that Ziggy's reviews are "hiding" in the Expert Area. I suggested that we should get rid of as many subforums as possible and thus make the whole forum easier to navigate. Thomas already made some very good changes. I think Ziggy's watch reviews should all be back in the watch repair section. Maybe we should have a separate watch movement/repair section and a photography section... and get rid of the "expert area" altogether? There should be one link that's sticky (preferably written in red color) that states "COMPLETE REPLICA MOVEMENTS FAQ" or something like that...and that would include links to all Ziggy's articles. I have always included a link to Ziggy's movement breakdowns when I review a watch (if it's not just a standard ETA). Those are by far the best and most valuable information on the forum and they deserve to be easily accessible. Now we just have to figure out how that's accomplished. -
Kudos to Thomas!!!! We definitely needed a IWC section. Now someone just needs to move the IWC-related threads to the new subforum... Cool. I'm looking forward to it.
