  1. Perhaps we are the wrong "target audience" for this discussion. We generally buy our ETA-watches for $200 instead of $2000.
  2. Slay is right. On a genuine TT Submariner the crown and clasp indeed are just plated, not "solid".
  3. I have never understood the whole "inhouse movement" thing anyway. My father's Tudor Sub with basic ETA ran over 25 years with remarkable accuracy until it needed its first service. If the movement is reliable and accurate I don't really see the big deal... unless you're talking about real high end pieces like Patek, Breguet or Vacheron... which are more like "horologic art" rather than just timepieces. Rolex boasts about "all inhouse movements" but are they really technically superior than ETA ebauches in IWC and Omega? Or did Daytona performance improve when they changed from El Primero to the inhouse movement? And how to measure these things? Is it accuracy, duration, power reserve or finishing that ultimately makes the difference? Of course it might be one factor that justifies the high price for some. Paying premium for a ETA-based watch "can't be a good deal". But then again what watch beyond a Seiko is a "good deal"? It's difficult to justify any luxury item from a purely practical standpoint. I'm not saying the inhouse movement is not important... I'm saying that I just don't completely "get" it (yet).
  4. Third day in a flu, not working and too much time on my hands... so I've shot a few new watch photos. Here's a new PO 4th Gen shot. Hope you like it. I haven't really photoshooted this watch since I got it and reviewed it. The appeal of this watch is still strong for me and it's one of my all-time favourites.
  5. Thanks guys. Unfortunately it doesn't come with this pearl. This was a gift from a friend. I don't know where to get these pearls.... I believe buying those aftermarket pearls/inserts is always a "crap shoot". I just got lucky.
  6. Now that's a deep rehaut. Deeper than a fish tank. Seriously, it looks wonderful. It's actually so good that I'd buy a genuine pearl to finish it off. The current one looks nice... but that would be the final icing on the cake. Keep up the good work!
  7. Congrats Dani! So you got this watch... again? It looks great. Enjoy!!!
  8. The subdial spacing will always be off. The biggest improvement for these hand wind models would be the freezing of 6' subdial (the useless 24h hand). I don't understand why they can't do this.
  9. Blue dials always "speak" to me. Here's a gorgeous blue version for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-TUDOR-PRINCE-TIG...1QQcmdZViewItem
  10. Thanks Randy. And indeed that DW is beautiful. And sorry... yeah I erronously used the "PN" model as a general term of the vintage Daytonas. I meant vintages in general... based on my experiences they start from around $20K. Like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-Vintage-Original...1QQcmdZViewItem If the gens weren't so expensive I'd get a rep. Actually... when (and if) they ever fix the reliability issue of the 6'o'clock Daytona or release an accurate "El Primero" version I'll definitely get one. Not for daily wear... but just for completing the collection.
  11. Yes... for me they are. The list price is around $8K but I've heard they can be "flipped" for $10K. I could be wrong though. PN models are $20K and up, right? Not a watch that an average guy... or even average guy who a makes decent salary would realistically buy. That's what I meant "overboard", nothing wrong with the Daytona though. I try to stay away from the very expensive watches, like the PN, DRSD and Milgauss just for this reason.
  12. I will be watching too. Daytonas are SO overboard... and potential fakes in everyone's eyes. Tudor Prince Chronograph is about 500% more believeable, and looks just as nice.
  13. I will sport my 2 favourite Rolexes today and tomorrow.

    Love My Sub

@Chronomat: I believe this is the exact same watch that I reviewed HERE. It just has a ETA movement.
  15. You have a good eye Chief. I haven't polished it because I'm afraid I'd lose the satin finish. But I have some non-abrasive liquid polish that I'm going to try. Thanks.
  16. Great watch (and pic). Will you bring that back with you?
  17. @TT: That's a genuine 1680. Yours? Here's my favourite replica watch:
  18. Here's a new wristshot for ya... with the new pearl. Can't really tell the difference to the genuine when it's on the wrist. Very small mod but quite big improvement in overall appearance, imho.
  19. Shiny surfaces often appear in different color when photographed from different angles... depending what kind of colors they reflect back. For example if you're wearing a blue shirt the hands might get the reflection from that... and appear "blueish" in the picture. If you want to shoot "advanced pics" you need to use reflector cards to get rid of the noise.
