  1. Finally - and with a big help from Neckyzips I finished this baby. Inspired by our missed MrBigandWonderful: The specs: Athaya Bronze case Custom Okabaum dial, aged and resin-filled by yours truly. Quizat 24 crystal Cortebert 620R with Neckyzips raised cannon pin Donerix vintage olive strap with bronze buckle
  2. I did, but I didn't like them. They are very hard to see and I found a pic of a commando with the Mercedes-style hands so I figured I can use them
  3. Building this one for a friend with the great help of JoeyB who made the dial:
  4. I have a gen 7205 with 57 endlinks that I used to have on my DW Daytona and it fit very well. Now I am using it for my latest build. Rolex Commando:
  5. At least he has good taste in cars My little one has a list of stuff he wants as soon as I drop the shovel, his older brother is cool with the life insurance settlement. Nothing like true love Thanks Z. I hope he will follow in his grandma's footsteps: diving license, pilot license, truck driver license and all while she raised me alone and built up a successful business.... I remember my dad taking me on "just buying cigarettes" trips on his old BMW motorcycle. Sometimes we didn't come home for hours. He had a bunch of nice Beemers including the last 3.0 CSI that ever rolled out of the factory in '75 (my dad built their factory's ventilation system) and which was stolen outside a restaurant in Munich two weeks later.... A good man, may he RIP
  6. My son London has just turned 9 and he has been checking my watches more and more lately. So I thought it was time for his first watch. Of course it had to have some vintage blood. Here is the little bugger with his best friend Bo: I found this piece for him: ZRC Nautilus from the early 70s, waterproof to 300m/990ft: Great patina on the dial markers and bezel: Solid stainless steel construction: And thanks to the stretch bracelet I don't have to get another watch for a few years:) PS: Used to be my mom's dive watch. Quite a rare bird actually...
  7. Well done. If they only knew ...
  8. MBW/MBK 5513, only mods so far have been softening the case, reaming the lug holes, bleaching the insert and installing a better pearl (MBW pearl sucked as always). Also aged the dial and hands. Just ordered an Ingod gilt dial with chapter ring for it which should definitely improve it. Still have to do the CGs, but I have been wearing it all the time
  9. An old friend of mine who is visiting stormy San Juan del Sur brought his new Lumix DMC-GF2 and I took it for a little spin. Sit back, relax, watch and let me know what you think: And then I played around with Lightroom a bit:
  10. Playing around with this one before it goes to the final assembly by my watch smith. Somehow I like the 6542 on a Jubilee flimsy rep bracelet :
  11. I have no way to test it since I don't have a gen 1675 movement, but I will be at my watch smith in Miami in March and can find out. If it fits you are welcome to it. I will try to locate one. All small GMT hands I have seen so far where $500+
  12. The dial was washed and had no lume at all. It came out a bit too bright, but I will give it another round in the toaster to make it darker and weaken the lume Any idea where I could find a hand set that will fit the 1065?
  13. Working on my Franken 6542: Gen case, gen dial (re-lumed by VAC), Rolex 1065 (GMT conversion parts have arrived at the watch smith) Still some kinks to be worked out: need a new crown tube, correct movement screws and unfortunately the classicwatchparts hand set doesn't fit the gen movement... Just seeing the movement run makes my day
  14. Those are the same I bought too
  15. Check on ebay, Sometimes they have old pearls for sale. Like this one:
  16. I use a burning cigarette held close to the pearl. Works well for me... As for the insert: I have had good results with 50/50 water and bleach. That way you have a bit more control over how much paint you bleach off at each go. But I have found out that different inserts react differently and that not all brands of bleach are equally strong (my preferred bleach is Magica Blanca, but it might only be sold in Latin America...
  17. Cubeistan picked me up a complete watch. This is what it looked like when I got it: I softened the case, aged the dial and hands which were silver. Then I faded the insert and installed a gen pearl I had bought on ebay. Has a Swiss 2836. For inspiration: the ultimate goal I have contacted Ingod and he said he was going to make a dial for it which should get us closer to the gen
  18. Great piece. MBWs rock, here is mine from BKK via Cubeistan: Still have to do the crownguards
  19. It should have one without hash marks. classicwatchparts.com has one, but it's not exactly cheap: http://www.classicwatchparts.com/catpart/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=34_56&products_id=74 Maybe ask Silix if they sell you one separate... Nice piece....
  20. Two of my new favorite straps... French Painted Ammo with PVD buckle: Dark grey Gator for my MonteCarlo: And a few more:
