  1. I have a feeling I'll end up having more vintage than not in my collection to be perfectly honest. I have bought a Tudor BB (currently broken) and I have just finished a Rolex 1016. One vintage one faux vintage. There just seems to be something about them. I typically find (especially with rolex) that the modern watches are too bling-y and in your face. I also find that modern watches are too large for me normally. I have also found that after having quite a bad first experience buying from a TD (not the TD's fault but a dodgy movement) that I prefer to make the watch myself knowing what each part is and that it is being done at least somewhat right.
  2. A few more photos of the watch (unfortunately it seems like my DSLR is dead, so we shall see what happens with that. These were shot with an iPhone 4).
  3. The bracelet isn't too bad, the last bracelet I had was the tudor black bay which was spectacular in weight but didn't size to my wrist. So for a ≈$60 bracelet I am impressed.
  4. I've posted this before( http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/173625-finished-rolex-1016-build/ ) but as it was my first build that I've done I thought I would post it in for the comp (though there is stiff competition). My Rolex 1016 JMB Vintage Explorer Case (set including crown, crystal, tube, caseback etc etc) Yuki 1016 Dial Combination of Yuki and Clark hands (for ETA) (due to bending hands in my inexperience) Gen ETA 2824-2 (from vintage donor watch) Previously I was wearing it with the original JMB dial on a leather nato strap that I had lying around (was 22mm so it didn't fit quite right with the 20mm lugs) but I decided that when I ordered the dial I would also order a bracelet. Wanting to keep the price of this build down as low as possible for the moment I chose the "Rolex 20mm Solid replacement Bracelet" (marked 93135). For me this really completed the tool watch look that I was going for. The reason that I chose a 1016 is that I like the simplicity of the vintage rolex (that doesn't scream that it's a rolex) and that it is a tool watch that I can keep on my wrist and it should be fine to wear in (as opposed to some watches that I have worn that have left me scared of scratching it for fear of ruining it). I'm glad to have finally completed my first build after waiting so long to buy my first rep (which died very soon after) I know that I should be able to trust this watch to not die quite so soon.
  5. I will take more when I can but unfortunately pretty much since I took these photos my 5D has refused to turn on :/ I'm definitely happy with how it turned out but I'm not sure about the case shape and I know that the engravings on it are wrong (useless unless wearing it on a strap, which I sometimes do).
  6. If you don't end up getting one from SSteel then it was actually a relatively simple build to be honest.
  7. What would I do to waterproof this?
  8. Hi all, I have just finished my first watch build, the rolex 1016 This build includes: - JMB vintage explorer case - Yuki 1016 dial - Combination of Clark and Yuki hands (due to me stupidly bending the yuki hour hand) - Gen ETA 2824-2 - Yuki 93153
  9. Worked as a good watch for a black tie event this evening
  10. Good to see another Melbournian on the forum
  11. Order has just been made with yuki
  12. Considering every thread that I have read like this ends with BP or TC then I wouldn't think that it is too difficult to answer.
  13. What price range are you looking? Ebay has them for ≈$100 AUD TC mailed to me in australia was ≈$156 USD
  14. That shouldn't be any problem, already have everything I need to stick the dial to the movement and swapping the hands out for ETA will make it an easy swap.
  15. Will I still need to cut the feet of the dial or will it be with the ETA feet positioning (not really a problem either way, just interested in knowing if anybody has experience with it)
  16. I don't have too much experience with M2M sales as all the ones I've done have been with well established members. Look at what type of posts if any and although I'm not quite sure about paypal maybe look at them sending the money as a gift (so that they won't be able to file a dispute).
  17. Great watch and brilliant photos
  18. So the Yuki dial and hands for ETA will be the same but just on an ETA base?
  19. There's no problem with wanting to "buy a rep quickly", the problem comes when you have 2 posts that have not ever actually benefitted the forum and you feel a level of entitlement for the information. I've learnt that people here generally do not mind sharing their knowledge and some are truly brilliant people but people who come in with the "I'm a busy man, tell me what the best sub is" attitude are probably likely to get their watch, be disappointed, and never comment on the forum again.
  20. Is this what you're looking for?
  21. I have no problem clipping the feet as I've had to do on another watch after I accidentally broke them off. It looks like a good enough dial. Does anybody know if Yuki would send ETA hands in the place of the gen spec hands.
