  1. I have a feeling I'll end up having more vintage than not in my collection to be perfectly honest. I have bought a Tudor BB (currently broken) and I have just finished a Rolex 1016. One vintage one faux vintage. There just seems to be something about them. I typically find (especially with rolex) that the modern watches are too bling-y and in your face. I also find that modern watches are too large for me normally.

I have also found that after having quite a bad first experience buying from a TD (not the TD's fault but a dodgy movement) that I prefer to make the watch myself knowing what each part is and that it is being done at least somewhat right.

  2. I've posted this before( http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/173625-finished-rolex-1016-build/ )  but as it was my first build that I've done I thought I would post it in for the comp (though there is stiff competition).

    My Rolex 1016

JMB Vintage Explorer Case (set including crown, crystal, tube, caseback etc etc)
    Yuki 1016 Dial
Combination of Yuki and Clark hands (for ETA)   (due to bending hands in my inexperience)
Gen ETA 2824-2 (from vintage donor watch)

Previously I was wearing it with the original JMB dial on a leather nato strap that I had lying around (was 22mm so it didn't fit quite right with the 20mm lugs) but I decided that when I ordered the dial I would also order a bracelet. Wanting to keep the price of this build down as low as possible for the moment I chose the "Rolex 20mm Solid replacement Bracelet" (marked 93135). For me this really completed the tool watch look that I was going for. The reason that I chose a 1016 is that I like the simplicity of the vintage rolex (that doesn't scream that it's a rolex) and that it is a tool watch that I can keep on my wrist and it should be fine to wear in (as opposed to some watches that I have worn that have left me scared of scratching it for fear of ruining it).

I'm glad to have finally completed my first build after waiting so long to buy my first rep (which died very soon after) I know that I should be able to trust this watch to not die quite so soon.

  3. I will take more when I can but unfortunately pretty much since I took these photos my 5D has refused to turn on :/

I'm definitely happy with how it turned out but I'm not sure about the case shape and I know that the engravings on it are wrong (useless unless wearing it on a strap, which I sometimes do).

  4. Hi all,

I have just finished my first watch build, the rolex 1016
    This build includes:

    - JMB vintage explorer case

    - Yuki 1016 dial
    - Combination of Clark and Yuki hands (due to me stupidly bending the yuki hour hand)

    - Gen ETA 2824-2

    - Yuki 93153

  5. The problem with this question is that it has been asked a million times before. End of, so the answer is already out there. But the problem is it is not easy to find an answer to it.

The problem is that in the real world if I want to find out who makes the best washing machine there is always specific and mostly up-to-date info, marketing stuff, reviews, magazines, Amazon reviews etc. etc. that stuff doesn't really exisit in the rep world, not really.

Have you guys who have said "use the search button" actually searched for "who makes the best sub" or "best rolex submariner"? Nothing meaningful comes back.

So while I agree with the "here we go again" feeling from the regulars, should we not AT LEAST have something, anything, sticky In this forum where the newbie is directed to? AND that is also the top hit in the search?

It would then at least feel fair to give him some grief.

Considering every thread that I have read like this ends with BP or TC then I wouldn't think that it is too difficult to answer.

  6. Yes, just ask Yuki to sub ETA hands and they will match the dial...

Will I still need to cut the feet of the dial or will it be with the ETA feet positioning (not really a problem either way, just interested in knowing if anybody has experience with it)

  7. I don't have too much experience with M2M sales as all the ones I've done have been with well established members. Look at what type of posts if any and although I'm not quite sure about paypal maybe look at them sending the money as a gift (so that they won't be able to file a dispute).

  8. I am doing similar 1016 build with dial and ETA hands from Yuki for $110ish. Just request eta dial and hands when ordering. I think Yuki's current dial looks great. Dial and hand Lume matches nicely.

I did order TC hands also and if I use those I will send the whole piece to cwazy for relume.

Yuki seems to be most cost effective approach. Did quit a bit of research on this and reached out to some experienced 1016 builders. Yuki was great to deal with, quick comms and shipping.

Sent from my droptop using telepathy.

So the Yuki dial and hands for ETA will be the same but just on an ETA base?

  9. Wow, some of you guys really take yourselves seriously don't you. Have you ever considered that some people just want to buy a rep quickly and reduce the chance of it being utter rubbish (given that $200-400 for a fake, and let's not kid ourselves these are cheap fake watches fellas, is quite a bit of money) because they can't afford a real one. Another thing I can never quite get my head round is the fact that a lot of members have bought so many reps they could have actually paid a real watch easily by now.

There's no problem with wanting to "buy a rep quickly", the problem comes when you have 2 posts that have not ever actually benefitted the forum and you feel a level of entitlement for the information. I've learnt that people here generally do not mind sharing their knowledge and some are truly brilliant people but people who come in with the "I'm a busy man, tell me what the best sub is" attitude are probably likely to get their watch, be disappointed, and never comment on the forum again.
