  1. Duxot was a second subsidiary line by Doxa, that died out in the late 60's - early 70's. Sort of what Unicorn was to Rolex. Was nothing special in its days, but used some quality generic movements, incabloc etc. De Luxe was their top tier line. This particular piece illustrates Doxa's shift in strategy and focus to diving watches following the success of Rolex etc. A very interesting piece and in good condition, externally. Very interested to see the movement condition.
  2. Extremely well balanced, beautiful collection. Very nice Montblancs. Is that a Heuer, the square one?
  3. Interesting... Would love to see the back. Does the gen have date? I can't recall. I think that this is one of the most balanced and well designed dials out there. Plus given the fact that MB are trying to develop their own in-house movements I actually have grown to appreciate the brand. Almost bought the basic gen TimeWalker the other day. PS for the photo to work just copy the image url and click the "image" button (second row, 11th button from left) This one: http://screencast.com/t/YJPLG1lq
  4. Seen it at AD store the other day. Looks very good actually. Is this a rep or gen? If rep - how's the build quality?
  5. Short answer: no. Longer answer: oh my god, no.
  6. Yet another interesting piece from you, LHOOQ. One of the most interesting collections I've seen. Would absolutely love to see more of it.
  7. That's a beautiful watch you have there, LHOOQ. I'm not much of a Rolex or Omega guy, but these watches here look so good on your straps, guys. Much better then the SS. Your watch looks stunning, vlydog. HikeUSA, I think that this only the second time in my life that I've looked at a Rollie and actually liked it. Your watch with that strap is perfect, absolutely perfect. But basically each and every one of the watches here, the Link, the AP, the VC, all of them. What a fabulous collection of an exquisite taste! One of the best "Wristies" threads I've seen so far.
  8. Ebel is amazing and I love that Citizen. What a collection!
  9. Rep or Gen? If you are looking for a classic Chrono - Heuer or Breitling are the obvious choices for me, because of the heritage and a long history of inventions in this area. Seiko and Zenith are interesting as well, since they invented their automatic chronos around the time Heuer/Breitling partnership introduces their. If you are looking for a rep then go for TAG Carrera Classic Chronograph. Breitling TransOceans are mesmerizing, but unfortunately the reps are of a low(er) quality. BTW It's not of my business and I'm sure some will disagree with me, but don't wear a chronograph as a dress watch. Trust me on that.
  10. @mikellem www.1-pc8838.com/al01041-1815-classic-ssle-white-asian-unitas-6498-p-8782.html But unfortunately the rep is not even close to this beauty. It's the little things like the font thickness and the dial details that make this watch perfect in my opinion.
  11. The gen retails under $700. I don't think they will ever rep it. And, yes it is a beautiful watch actually, seen it at AD store the other day.
  12. Exactly. I didn't find much sense in that article either.
  13. I'm really not a Panerai fan (I usually don't like the form factor and the wide edges), but this watch manages to be rough and refined all at the same time. Gorgeous. I think this goes to my wish list now.
  14. No, this is not what I'm saying. I'm really glad the dealers provide such a service and given the nature of this hobby, I will always prefer a dealer who provides it. A trusted dealer on this board has my absolute confidence, and I feel I don't need to protect myself or my money. In that specific case I've just sent him the money directly via WU, no questions asked, and I was confident that I would receive a good product. What makes me uncomfortable is restrictions like the one discussed in this thread. They make me anxious about the transaction and feel that the dealer has something to hide, which takes all the fun out, so to speak. I can sum the little twist I had with this purchase this way: if I'm asked not to post the pictures in an (probably automated/copy-pasted) email and then the dealer posts the QC images himself, I, personally, can not take his email remarks seriously. In the future if I'll need to post these images on any board to get an advise, I probably will. But, hey, it's just me.
  15. An interesting twist to this saga. A couple of days ago I've ordered a watch on one of the trusted dealers' sites. Right after I posted here, on this thread, I have also received an email from the dealer asking not to post the QC pictures. I didn't have the need to post those pictures, because the watch was rather simple, but in my mind I've decided that I'll need to rethink the way I buy from this dealer. And that was it. And now to the twist: browsing through the dealer's site today I've checked the watch I've ordered looking for some information I needed, and what do I see? New QC pictures for that model: QC pictures of my future watch. The ones he, so politely, asked me not to post. This really sums this discussion for me.
  16. Happy New Year, everybody! And remember: "The proper behavior all through the holiday season is to be drunk. This drunkenness culminates on New Year's Eve, when you get so drunk you kiss the person you're married to."
  17. Beautiful watch. Finally some refinements for Topgun. I just wish they'd stop using the Topgun name and would release this watch without these childish engravings.
  18. Never in my life have I tried so hard not to laugh. My friend is such a delicate soul, and he was so sure that this is a good watch. My initial thought was: "were is that sledgehammer when I most need it?", but simply because the movement is in such a good condition I thought maybe I can do something with it. A non-branded pilot's watch seems like a good idea, but i'm not sure the movement will survive such a journey. Does anyone recognize this movement?
  19. Oh, my eyes, my eyes! I have just received this watch from a friend, who bought it a couple of years ago at the flea market in Ankara. Obviously it's a horrible rep, and the poor guy paid a ridiculously high price for it. It still works, though, and the PR is not fixed ( shows day ), which is nice. Do you, guys, think this watch can be saved, or should he just put it out of its misery? Maybe to change a dial?
  20. A perfect watch. A bit thick for a dress watch, but the dial is so balanced, beautiful combinations of SS on the dial, the hands are a piece of art. I love it.
  21. Maybe I just new to all this, but I'd find this kind of statement suspicious, to say the least. I really don't understand what kind of "relationship" one has with a dealer besides buying a watch and hopefully in the future buying another one, because you trust him, have good communication and receive what you paid for. I personally can't see harm in seeking advise from other people, being it on a forum or otherwise. Sure, one needs to understand that he's buying a rep and there are always imperfections and deviations from the original design, sure one needs to filter comments and understand what's relevant and what's irrelevant, but telling you not to seek advise? That would definitely end our so-called "relationship".
  22. Absolutely. I hope I'll be able to get a gen as well for a full side by side review.
