On a planet where that same column wheel/vertical clutch chrono movement with Seiko logo is found in $350 Invictas, I suppose? I would like to be pointed in the direction of this $350 Invicta, mostly out of curiosity. Sent from my iPhone 6S Plus using Tapatalk

I stumbled on this video of a collector discussing his vintage Heuer collection with Crown and Calibre. Bask in the glory of some incredibly beautiful watches.

I totally agree about the rep bracelet quality and if it was my watch I'd have to put a gen bracelet on it as well.this would be the simplest solution and give you the most piece of mind. Sent from my iPhone 6S Plus using Tapatalk

Yes, Likn Calibre 36! I consistently forget that this was a thing... And what a thing it was. Also, I looked and they are relatively cheap to pick up second hand. Sent from my iPhone 6S Plus using Tapatalk

Have you considered a rep bracelet and just reuse the end links and clasp from the gen bracelet? I've never seen a bracelet with solid links stretch like that. To fix you would have to disassemble each link and replace all of the pins, I'd actually be concerned that one might let go if left this way. Also, do you wear your watch very tight? I like this a lot, I'm also kind of diggin' the -03. Not usually a fan of black cases but I sure like the look of this. Sent from my iPhone 6S Plus using Tapatalk -

I hope no one thinks I'm crapping all over all TAG Heuers, while I'm clearly crapping all over the Formula 1 range, I'm sure that can be forgiven [emoji6] I also feel i need to come to the defence of the Cal. 1887 again. This is not a gussied up Seiko movement, TAG Heuer purchased the intellectual property rights to the movement and it is manufactured by TAG Heuer, for TAG Heuer. While they didn't disclose the purchase from Seiko, on its face this is not a reason to dismiss the movement for what it is. Also, their selling the 1887, a manufactured column wheel chronograph for around $5000, on what planet is that not a bargain? Perhaps the Carrera and Monaco lines should continue to exist with only the Heuer logo and TAG should be reserved for models that were created more recently or are more or less entry level. I definitely consider TAG Heuer to be near the bottom of the list when it comes to the bigger Swiss brands and I don't see them ever heading in the right direction. The fear of being 'left behind' or missing out on any segment of the market sets them apart from brands that take their heritage seriously. Not too many brands are as historically significant as Heuer but those brands find a good design and stick to it; watches like the Formula 1 or that friggin Connected piece of crap just don't exist within other luxury watch brands. Where the Cal. 16 Carrera and the Cal. 5 Aquaracer should be the price of entry into a modern Heuer, they offer you an infinitely less appealing Formula 1 at a massively inflated price that is just enough of a 'bargain' to bring customers in the door. At the same time that they are producing incredible pieces of Haute Horology, they are pumping out crap that amounts to sticking their logo (all that some buyers care about) onto something uglier than anything that would ever come out of Citizen (Citizen makes some hidiously busy looking watches, IMHO). Phew, End of Rant!

Christmas gift- gen watch for dad- ideas?
icoopernicus replied to tframo's topic in General Discussion
Definitely cool, but maybe not for someone who isn't really into watches, they might not appreciate it for what it is. I stole a Tudor from a coworker who wanted to just give it to me because it looked so old and junky and kind of like a ladies watch, I had to force him to take some money for it. -

I'm with mike on this one, Hamilton is a go to in that price range, I recommend the Jazzmaster Viewmatic. This comes in different sizes but I would still recommend the 40mm as this is a much more timeless size. You should also be able to find a Seiko SARB in that price range which is a great looking watch and an excellent value. -

I love that Carrera Seafoam, 38mm case? IMHO TAG Heuer's Carrera line is just about as timeless as a watch line gets these days, even if there are about 10 too many models available. Overall, as a brand, TAG Heuer could probably do without Formula 1 and Link; they already discontinued the Grand Carrera. The only reason for the Formula 1 line is to get customers in the door but man does it devalue the brand overall. All of this, of course, is in my opinion only.

I still wear my Cal 1887 Carrera with the "Seiko" movement regularly and it is a fantastic watch. Hard to find a nicer pusher action in a mechanical Chronograph, let alone one in the sub $5000 price range. If you have never handled one I recommend it, I think anyone would be quite pleasantly surprised. It is a very clean chronograph design and the 41mm model is the perfect size for me. While the movement was developed by Seiko (a good thing where I stand) TAG Heuer purchased the rights to it and it is currently manufactured by TAG Heuer for use exclusively in their Carrera watches.
