despite the almost endless list of flaws, I can't seem to take it off my wrist. Now to sit on the couch and recover on my only day off.
-
Sneed, I actually checked the bay quick and even gen crown/tube seemed unavailable in the 8mm DSSD size. Maybe I can contact the TD and explain the situation, perhaps he can get his hands on the parts I need.
-
Thanks MD, When I get around to cracking this thing open I'll take a look to see if I can make an adjustment with the castle wheel lever, it almost feels like its not doing its job.
-
I would never expect this to feel like a gen, certainly not through the movement during winding. If I can get my hands on the parts then I am quite confident that I can turn this awful rep (that looks great by the way) into a pretty nice watch. This is my second one and between the two of them I may be able to make one good one

I know I don't want to do that but I don't know if I can live with how worn/stripped those threads are. I always have trouble sourcing the parts, I wish watch parts were readily available the way computer components are. I just grabbed my invicta and felt how buttery that crown screws in (in comparison to the DSSD), even a rep rolex should screw down much nicer than that invicta does.

MD - That's where my initial suspicion lies, I've done this repair before so hopefully I can work it out. Thanks for the advice guys, I may know some stuff, but the knowledge that some of you have is a wealth that is my pleasure to have access to and forgive me for exploiting it whenever I can. Possibly the castle wheel lever is not engaged with the castle wheel properly, allowing it to slip back and forth and not remain engaged with the crown gear. Next, what to do about the almost certainly stripped threads on the crown/tube I just love/hate this hobby

It's not quite once/rev but I can't make it much further than 1 revolution without it slipping. I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to take this one apart, I'm not very good at doing that without damaging the dial or hands in some way. I should have a swiss 2836 coming back from service/repair shortly, maybe I will swap that movement into this watch when it arrives, that will give me lots of time to inspect this one for the cause of the problem.

Hey there watchmakes/tinkerers, I'm looking for some advice regarding my new DSSD rep (it's a piece of crap by the way) The specific issue in question is with winding the watch manually. When winding the movement the crown 'skips' about once per revolution, when I say skip, I mean loss of resistance in turning the crown, it then picks back up winding again. This happens if I am winding carefully or if I forcefully wind the watch with much authoritah. Could this be a keyless works issue or am I possibly looking at a bigger problem with this movement? For the record, this is the worst quality watch I have purchased since I started collecting, the bezel is misaligned (not a huge deal and sort of suspected from the QC pics, so we'll call that my fault) and the crown does not thread in smooth (when I say not smooth I mean I feel like I am stripping every thread all the way in). There is a tight link in the bracelet, it will only move when forced this is even after cleaning and oiling the bracelet, also this isn't a huge deal. While just the bezel or just the tight link would not bother me too much, those two combined, with the crown and movement issue leave me very disappointed in my most recent purchase.

Dear god/Jesus/pick your poison, get it serviced elsewhere!!! for the minimal additional cost over servicing by a TD you get to assurance that it will be done and done properly by a watchmaker.

Why do reps suffer such poor WR capabilities?
icoopernicus replied to squashlovernk's topic in General Discussion
I do the hot water check, dunk in near-boiling water and look for escaping air bubbles, if I see none I will wear it swimming. As a rule, outside of light rain or washing my hands I don't consider a chrono anything to be water resistent, any rep with a screw in crown is good if the crystal and caseback pass the boiling dunk test. I would like to learn a little about waterproofing my watches, I think all I need is some molykote for the seals and a little knowhow regarding proper crystal installation and crystal seals. -
1. Nope 2. is that a working power reserve? 3. Me likey!

Congrats on the compliment, they are rare with watches, most people never notice that I'm wearing a watch, let alone that it might be a rep. That said, I wouldn't worry about being called out by a gen owner, only a rep collector would ever even be capable of calling out a decent rep. You think they notice a low crown, slightly taller crown guards, slight spacing difference in the dial text? Not likely Wear it well, it looks like a great piece.

I have pleanty of rep pictures on instagram, never comment if it's gen or rep, just post. I like to use the instagram filters for some of my wristy pics (when I'm feeling a little lazy) they just get posted to instagram automatically. If someone called me out what's the worst that could happen? People know I collect replicas, it's not like I fear being called out, nor do I fear legal hassle over my personal collection that is not for sale or profit. On another note, I do have a Flickr account that has lots of rep pics mixed with pics of gens, this is probably riskier and more likely to be called out by someone. I wouldn't worry about your reps showing up in your FB pics, especially if these aren't pics of your watches but just pics with your watches in them.

2836 should give an identical sweep to the gen, the smoothness of the sweep depends on the beat rate, at 28,800bph this is identical to the movements built by rolex. I suspect that you would still see the slightly choppy sweep from a gen, if you were looking for it.

DSSD again, at least the sun is shining today

I was going to wear my 116610 for the weekend but much to my surprise my new DeepSea Sea Dweller showed up at my door. I have really missed having one of these in my rotation, it may be a little too big for some but I love how it wears.
-
Just going to get this one ready for the weekend. Gave the bracelet a little service last week and can't wait to strap it back on.
