Agreed with the water resistance of reps, I trust a push in crown citizen over a screw in crown sub or SMP, I don't quite know why but they really can't seem to make them waterproof. On the quality side (water resistance notwithstanding) I would expect to see higher quality than a similar priced gen watch but only from a rep costing north of $100, stick to the $200 range and you'll be getting a good movement that can be serviced in a watch with great wrist presence. You're not going to get a hacking 28800 movement with sapphire crystal from Seiko for $200.

Your thoughts on Tag Heuer as a Brand?
icoopernicus replied to paneraiguy's topic in General Discussion
Black Carrera with rose gold markers, the black chrono hands on the first pic, who isn't currently drooling over that beautiful piece? I would not pay what they are asking for any of their Quartz models but there is nothing substandard about any of the automatic line, say what you will about the styling on some. $1500 for an aquaracer or a CAL. 5, yes please and if I have the money I'll shell out triple that for an Aqua Terra (nice but not 3X nice) -
Valentine's day has to be a little postponed until tomorrow, working too much lately. I'm going to keep going with this one here.

Your thoughts on Tag Heuer as a Brand?
icoopernicus replied to paneraiguy's topic in General Discussion
Not sure how I missed this topic, I guess I have just been busy. I have always made it clear that I was a fan of TAG Heuer watches, not all, but some of them. The Carrera and Grand Carrera are very nice watches and I really like the new Aquaracer, very simple. Quite frankly they make some of the nicest looking watches on the market I recently purchased a Cal. 1887 Carrera in black and that is a beautiful watch, it really is stunning. I know where a lot of the TAG "hate" comes from but I also know that it's bunk, they're a watch company like any other. You think TAG's are over priced? $8000.00 for a Sub, <$2000.00 for an Aquaracer, right there you're paying $6000 for a 3135 movement in a watch that can't be distinguished from a $300 rep! These watches are all overpriced, IWC is better than TAG because it advertises less and charges more for it's watches that we all know are only worth a fraction of what they're charging for them. (I have a huge hard on for the Portuguese Chronograph) TAG Heuer, as a brand, is just as relevant as all of the other mid range swiss brands, they produce some nice models and some ugly, ostentatious models. To me, every Breitling is ugly and way too flashy, the SMP is kind of ugly but I love the PO, Corum - barf, I don't get Hublot either, or AP for that matter, I just don't think they look particularly nice. This game truly is a matter of personal taste WebRep currentVote noRating noWeight -
Is this Omega DeVille Quartz Rep any good?
icoopernicus replied to TimeToPretend's topic in General Discussion
you're better off with a 21j seamaster professional for less than $100 from sillix prime. As a side note, has anyone ever come across a quartz SMP rep, why does this not seem to exist, why put a 21j in an SMP, why not just make a rep of the gen quartz as a budget SMP? -
Why you need to have a rep serviced (a pictorial)
icoopernicus replied to HartDoc's topic in General Discussion
GMT, 2836-2 is fairly simple, I damaged mine putting it back together but other than being a clutz you should be able to work your way through it. If it's your first overhaul or service I might recommend something bigger and more simple, manual wind pocket watch, or PAM movement (large and simple) -

Is this Tag Heur rep any good for $30?
icoopernicus replied to TimeToPretend's topic in General Discussion
This watch is a piece of crap and it's about $130.00. If you want a cheap Tag Rep, this is a lot better and about as cheap as anything decent will be. The GMT indication is wrong, The grand date is horrible, TAG logo is wrong! This Model is not a Chrono and will function more or less as gen, stay away from Chrono models unless you are willing to pay over $200 for a watch, or go with quartz (don't do this). Unless you run into someone with a Gen Grand Carrera, or a watch fetish like everyone on this site, and you can abstain from pointing it out to anyone (just let people notice it on their own) everyone will just assume it's gen (but won't notice). A Calibre 36RS is really hard to pull off, especially with a non functioning chronograph! http://www.puretime.co/product/grand-carrera-calibre-8-ss-black-dial-a23j/ -

Oh, there must have been some miscommunication, not anywhere near 50K price range. either way, it's here and being photographed, you will all have your answer in a short while. -

The wait is almost over, I am still at work but the watch is at home, when I get there I will upload some pics and all will be revealed. Breitling Transocean is one of my all time favorite watches, that is an excellent guess, it's not the watch, but it's a good guess. Sit tight, if you haven't lost all interest over the past 3 days, it's almost time. -
