This new brown Rally Strap with the silver sunburst dial gives this watch a great retro vibe, I am loving this pairing right now. -
The process of modifying the watch is very gratifying in itself. For most, a "Franken" is not about getting it to be more like gen and saving a little money in the process, it's about the journey. To create a franken you must gen parts that are often difficult to come by, sometimes you need to modify parts of the rep case to make the gen crown fit or that gen bracelet. You've got to figure out how to attach the gen dial to the A2836 movement because the dial feet are in the wrong spot. Like you mentioned, you need a steady hand, a little know-how, and a lot of determination. At the end of the day you have a watch that means more to you than any rep or even any gen, this new watch is now a part of you! I hope this helps.

That is kind of cool to think that you ordered the watch and that was his que to start assembling your watch. -

Hey Mike, I think he has an eBay store where you can purchase directly from G. Gerlach. Reasonable intl. shipping, not sure how much of his stock is listed but it's worth a look for sure. Love that pilot you from your first post too! -

Suspicious Request from Pure Time?
icoopernicus replied to icoopernicus's topic in General Discussion
I opted to go another route as this order included a watch for a friend and I didn't want to put his $400.00 at any increased risk. Not that I am sure something is up and Angus has been great to deal with in the past. This request just gave me an uneasy feeling that I may not be dealing with Angus. The dealers websites change so often, it's hard to keep track of which one is the current site and the list is often out of date on the forum. The order has now been placed and the clock has started, I love/hate this part -

Didn't take long for my replica rolex to stop working
icoopernicus replied to a topic in General Discussion
I actually had a Grand Carrera RS2 21j junker (my second ever rep, pre forum days) and it would stop occasionally, sometimes even while I was wearing it. I'd look down and it would have lost 30 minutes over the last 3 hours. Not losing a predictable amount of time but stopping and then starting again. I'm not sure what you paid for this watch but if you stick with the Asian clone movements you should be alright, throw in a $100 service when the watch arrives (I don't do this but it's an option that some do) and it will perform as well as a gen for years to come. -
Suspicious Request from Pure Time?
icoopernicus replied to icoopernicus's topic in General Discussion
I never got to a stage where I would input my credit card info, I'm not sure that's the issue. I seem to remember this process being a lot easier; place order, pay with PayPal, accept QC pics, OBSESSIVELY check EMS tracking, enjoy your new watch! -
Suspicious Request from Pure Time?
icoopernicus replied to icoopernicus's topic in General Discussion
I have been trying to pay via mastercard but it will not allow me to continue with the order, strange. I may have to place the order elsewhere, not sure I am getting a warm feeling from this transaction. -
-
I've debated cleaning it up a bit but you can't fake this kind of aging and certainly can't undo a nice brushing on the case and bracelet.
-
After being unable to pay with credit card I was asked to pay with Western Union, as much as I prefer not to do this, it seems to be the way thngs are going. I recieved an emal from puretime asking me to send the money to Taiwan where Angus has "some personal family friends." Maybe it's just me, but this is starting to sound suspicious. I have been emailing them from the same adress I have used in the past but I am hesitant to procede with the order. Has someone had this request from Pure Time recently? Would you move forward with the purchase? email address used: puretime.billing@gmail.com website ordered from: www.puretime-asia.com You would think that after this long and nothing but successful orders I would be a pro but for some reason this has made me more uncomfortable than any other purchase I have made before?

Just wondering: has someone never geiger countered any rep?
icoopernicus replied to GenTLe's topic in General Discussion
To be fair, he didn't say reactor, he just said nuclear plant, opening us up to a very wide range of stainless steel grades. I just have one question... WHERE WOULD YOU EVEN GET THIS FROM -
This is soooooo, right the 'eff up my alley! Great looking piece.

Very funny that you bring this up! just had an incident at work wearing a vintage Hamilton, set of some radiation monitors and when I checked the watch with a portable frisker it was reading over 10,000 cpm and just below 80nCi. I have never alarmed a monitor wearing a rep though, I would be surprised if they are being produced with recycled radioactive steel, where exactly would one come across this? and wouldn't it be easier to just get regular non radioactive steel that wasn't recycled from a nuclear plant (again, where would one even get this?) -
Hesalite is a plexi glass (plastic) it does scratch easily but these scratches can be buffed out with a polishing compound called Poly Watch (it's like 5 bucks). This is a great material for a watch crystal, very clear and should not crack or shatter. If I'm not mistaken, the Hesalite version of the Omega Speedmaster Professional is still the most popular version and the crystal looks very good, 'warmer' than a sapphire.

This dial appears to be very rare, the case and bracelet are a little more standard fare Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk

Not a lot of interest in this vintage Tudor around these parts I guess, not even in the 7205 bracelet it's attached too. Maybe what this post needs is a little eye candy. For a little more information on this watch, it has been going strong for almost two full days, unworn, power reserve and time keeping both appear adequate. Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk
