  1. Already being discussed here, plus this is a terrible rep of an ugly gen. Also, it isn't the 'new 40th Anniversary 007' - the watch is misnamed. Do you want any more reasons why this isn't worth getting excited about....? (Note to mods/admin - can we close duplicate threads in future?!)
  2. I am a die-hard Bond fan, and I'd never wear one of these. It only interests me insofar as I despair at the thought that Omega marketing people know there are folks out there who will want one and buy it, and those people want to associate with the Bond thing. I wasn't too keen on the 40th Anniversary 10007 model SMP either* - I'd rather have the actual watches as worn in the movies than something carrying the trademarks! (*I'd still kill for one of the 2892 based reps though - if only to transplant the face of my 2824 SMP into...)
  3. It comes with all the flaws that are typical of today's SMP reps. (single piece end link, oversized pearl, etched rather than engraved clasp) and the simultaneous release of the Asian and ETA movement models confirms what many of us have suspected for a while now that we are simply getting the same cases with movements swapped these days. Oh, all the above notwithstanding the completely wrong colour, bezel font and caseback combination, plus the fact the original is awful looking anyway...
  4. If the uPAW were to make it to me before 20th July then I can guarentee it a trip to Paris, the French Alps and Tuscany in the space of one week before passing it on....
  5. Arrrgh - more Asian movement paranoia. I am wearing a 090 rep with the very same Asian 21j movement you are sweating over. Not only is it very accurate, it is also based on the ETA 2892 movement, which is a fundamentall better design than the 2824 you'd probably end up swapping in (as 'replacement' 2892s are rarer and considerably more expensive). Order the Asian, enjoy it, and get over the idea that ETA=better.
  6. Something fundamental here. The correct placement for the subdials on the 7750 is 6, 9 and 12. That is the only genuine, designed configuration (notwithstanding that some versions of watch using the 7750 movement do not actually employ all the subdials). The 7753 is the 'official' movement with the subdials at 3, 6 and 9. Replicas having this subdial postitioning are bastardised 7750's (Swiss and Asian copies) using a couple of transfer wheels overlayed onto the front of the movement. This is why the datewheel ends up sunken compared to the real 7753's. There are no replica versions of the 7753 movement, only 7750s that try to emulate the look of the 7753. The latest incarnations of 7750s designed to emulate the Rolex Cosmograph movement are a further basterdised, utterly non standard design using a pile of transfer gears. These movements dispense with lubrication in order to overcome the friction losses incurred by the additional gearing. They are the worst kind of compromise out!! Breitling replicas using Asian 7750 movements with the same subdial layout as the genuine 7750s (ie. 12, 6 ans 9) have proven to be very reliable as there has been no hacking about with the movement.
  7. Keep a supply of spare inserts...
  8. I agree - leave it as it is. It's lovely - you can definitely see the blood-lines through to today's PO on that.
  9. If I can be assured that Aspire-eshop Paul is the same Abay Paul I bought from before then I have every confidence in him. My doubts, however, stem from replies from what appeared to be a perplexed sounding stranger to my last two enquiries to Aspire. This despite me having many dialogues with the 'old' Paul, using the same email address every time before anyone says anything....
  10. I bought twice from Abay with no issues, and the watches were two of the best quality ones I have owned at the best ETA movement prices I had seen at the time. Aspire is a different organisation as far as I can see. Different trading name, no longer the most competitive prices, and different people running the show but happily using the link with 'Paul' when it suits. This doesn't of course imply anything, but I won't use them while the prices remain uncompetitive and their reputation remains unproven (I'm not fooled by the references to 'Paul').
  11. The parts to do the modification are not generally available, nor are there specifications for the parts in the public domain. You are asking for something that does not in practice exist outside the rep factories. If there is someone willing to dismantle their movement to show you I'll be very interested also in their findings, but I doubt anyone will as there is nothing to gain from doing so.
  12. Why would someone need to know this? The accuracy of the watches is important to someone wearing them. The accuracy of the accessories is important to someone selling them....
  13. RATS!! Someone beat me to commenting on our resident genuine Breguet owner...
  14. That looks as good as it gets. The He valve is even in the correct location!!!
  15. I have a spare case and crystal for my 45mm PO. I am tempted to get the crystal pressed out the case and send it to an opticians to be coated...
  16. My two pee'worth.. Silix customer service is second-to-none!
  17. That was a custom job, substituting an ETA movement into a 45mm case that previously had an Asian movement in, if I remember correctly. The PO that is the subject of the thread doesn't look too clever. The bezel is an insipid shade of orange and there are two different types of engraving on the clasp - one laser etched and the other machine engraved.
  18. Sorry, you are right. I mean £ and not $, and the Asian 21J is a 'licenced' copy of the Miyota 8xxx series movement. It's solid, accurate when regulated, and reliable. It doesn't beat as fast as the 28xx ETA's but that gives it a longer power reserve as a result. You'll never convince some people though that it is a match for the ETA. The relative price of these movements as loose spares belies the profit margin and 'premium pricing' policy behind the 'Swiss' ETA reps. As I said in another thread - in the past I'd buy an ETA powered rep as the increase in price usually also gave you a better and more accurately dimensioned case and just better finishing detail compared to the Asian movement equivalents, but this is becoming less and less true with exactly the same quality watch/band combination being shipped with a choice of Asia 21J or ETA movement. Two examples of this being the latest Omega Seamaster 300m's, and black/LV Subs as sold recently by Trusty, TTK, Lucky and others.
  19. Vindicated! Cousins is the place that sells perfectly serviceable 'gold' plate ETAs for $30 (ask Davey). The Asian 21J movement is every bit as good, if not better, than the run-of-the-mill ETA2824s, except the badging, of course.....
  20. I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! Did you hear them on the BBC comparing (D)Wayne Rooney's failure to make the team through lack of fitness with 1966 and Jimmy Greaves?! Talk about clinging to past glories.
  21. I know some people must have ETA whatever the cost, but in this case the cost is prohibitive if not irrelevant as it is nigh on impossible to do. Why not instead source one of the Asian GMT movements as used in our reps? These at least are proper GMTs and not something bodged to look like one using parts that are totally unavailable outside the rep factories. The only justification I can see for choosing an ETA movement over an Asian at the moment is availability of standard spare parts (as there is little difference in quality or design) but in this particular incidence that advantage doesn't exist. An 'ETA' 2836 modified to run as a GMT is not a true ETA movement in terms of its stated design or function.
  22. You could eat an apple through a tennis racket with those!
  23. AFAIK the modification involves taking a gearing from the day display function of the 2836 movement, which is why it is a less than satisfactory modification - taking a 7 position device and attempting to convert it into a 24 position one! This is also why the date-set position of the crown moves the GMT hand when turned the other way, as this is normally the day-setting function on the 2836.
  24. The Zigmeister has changed his opinion of the new one somewhat since his initial review. Apparenly he has since seen several examples where the pallette jewels have become detached rendering the movement junk if the jewel cannot be retrieved and re-attached as the pallette arm is not interchangeable with the genuine 7750 design.
  25. I lost interest in the Champions League this year when the Italians all went out... My missus fancies Thierry Henry big stylie, so will be shouting for the Gooners come the final. Don't think she cares a jot about what effect that'll have on next season's qualifying..
