C, Even if you could properly anodize the red onto the insert (I'm sure it's possible but you'd have to first remove the clear coat on that portion only), there's the bigger issues of the rest of the insert not having the correct font for a red triangle insert. Assuming we're talking about a mK1 or mk2 insert as the starting point. If your goal is to have as period correct an insert as possible, the red triangle insert with "incorrect" numeral fonts will be immediately called out. As such, you will have just significantly devalued a nice long 5 insert.

I use a Bergeon 6085 e2 at 2800 rpm for brushing:

Hmmm. It's quite possible it's a 14060 insert then. The dimensions of OD and ID are both smaller than 16610. If the OD is roughly 36.5 mm and ID is 29.7mm, then it's for a no-date 14060.

In reality, no country wants a strong currency. There are trillions and trillions of dollars that are outside the U.S. What this means is that the Fed reserve can effective print money and never have to pay it back. That's effectively what a bank note is, an iou. US exports will be hurt long term and makes competing with the likes of China much more difficult. Why do you think Japan has been in a deflationary spiral for 20-30 years? The yen has appreciated from 360 (yen to $) to below 100 (currently around 117). Swiss rates are negative, EU will effectively print money next week as they start quantitative easing. By product will be an influx of money flowing into US$ making exports more difficult in an environment when the rest of the world economies are hurting. A strong dollar is fine when emerging markets are strong, but that's not the case. Gold is a natural asset to hold, and US rates will probably stay low which might offset some of the strong $'s deflationary effects, but can't go much lower than they are now. Something gotta give.

I've taken apart a HR 6538 case recently. Not only is the bezel and crystal retaining system designed for a glass dome, but the bezel will not accept a gen-spec insert. The width of the HR bezel is way too wide, so you are stuck using whatever inserts that MK carries. If at least it could take a gen insert, I could figure a way to get a plexi to fit, but given the bezel dimension, just gotta accept it as it is. He is working on a plexi for that case, in which case it will be liveable.

well I wouldnt put Patek in that group. They are in a class of their own.

http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/an-open-letter-to-iwc-from-john-mayer IMO, it could have been written to quite a few Swiss watchmakers, not just IWC (Panerai, AP, Hublot, Breitling...) But I guess it's all about sales.

Really? I got mine at the LCBO on Queens Quay. Maybe they no longer carry it. Bought two bottles about 3 years ago.

I think my long 5 insert is more conical than yours. Mine covers more of the T17 sidewall.

cc.. hi-rez file much? you can see every scratch on that T-17! Very cool

I once considered buying a dentist's drill for some case modding. Would come in handy.

Since genuine NOS Superdome T19's no longer exist (if someone has one for sale, they are lying or its a mistake), I've recommended the T19 from Michael Young. Very nice Superdome effect and much better fit than the Clarks vintage T19. I think I've purchased every single aftermarket T19 from ST, cousins, offrei and nothing comes close to Michael Young's. It's not perfect but it's pretty damn good. But it's interesting that it's now a generally acceptable aftermarket part on VRF. I think as parts get more and more rare, aftermarket parts other than crystals will be much more common in the "purist" watch forums. http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/message/1372841763/Meeting+Michael+Young+in+Bangkok+%26amp%3B+a+replacement+T19 [url=http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/message/1372841763/Meeting+Michael+Young+in+Bangkok+%26amp%3B+a+replacement+T19]http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/message/1372841763/Meeting+Michael+Young+in+Bangkok+%26amp%3B+a+replacement+T19 Couple guys are even talking about modding the crystal to be more gen-like. Humorous.

well swiss rates are now negative! -0.75%. So interesting if the franc will continue to be a safe-haven currency with that hinderance. with ECB quantitative easing a certainty now, the US $, GBP will be the short term beneficiary (bonds, gold, real estate, etc.). This is actually bad for the US as it will drive up the $... not good long term
-
the gen retaining ring needs some trimming to fit the case flush.. or alternatively, the case needs to be prepped to accept the gen ring..

If a central bank is defending a level using "unlimited" resources (selling CHF, buying Euro), what do you think will happen if they announced that they will gradually start to not defend it? Everyone would sell Eur/Chf knowing that they will be guaranteed to make money... This basically opens the doors for the ECB to begin quantitative easing next week...
-
yeah.. its big news.. the SNB was defending 1.2000 Eur/Chf for years.. (was a currency trader for 20 years). I miss days like this. lots of fun

Swiss franc appreciated about 25% today (against the USD and Euro). At some point will be reflected in cost of Swiss made exports. All the swiss watch companies are getting crushed today. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2015-01-15/swiss-exporters-face-tsunami-after-snb-unexpectedly-drops-cap.html http://www.google.com/finance?q=VTX%3AUHR&sq=swatch&sp=1&ei=uu23VLmEMMWWqAGFooHoDg Maybe I should run out and buy my SD4000 this aft!
