  1. I think I'm straying away from reps, they need to rep some nicer and different watches! Picked up an early Christmas present to myself
  2. I disagree that a list would turn into a nightmare of subjective mis-opinions. One simply has to make sure that it contains just facts. Facts are objective, imply nothing and leave any subjective "reading between the non-existent lines" to the reader, who, if they have a downer on a particular buyer/seller would come to exactly the same conclusions as if the list didn't exist. It is very easy to unwittingly enter an emotional slant onto what otherwise is a factual entry though, which we would all have to watch out for, and all accept we can do this without realising it, and be grateful and change/update it when someone else points it out to us.
  3. And not one of you lot mentioned the TD tool available via the link in my sig., and I thought we were friends! <sob> Note: If you are new and download this TD tool and give it a go, heed the warning about ONLY using TDs from the forum you are registered with, i.e. THIS one.
  4. Well, if automatic watches associate with mechanical elements like cars, I suppose quartz watches should be associated with electronic elements, such as me doing a bit of programming
  5. I've sold very little on M2M but of the stuff that I have I give the buyer a timeframe to pay the money (agreed with them), and if another potential buyer comes along I tell them that someone is on the clock to pay me for the item, and if I haven't received the money by 'xx' time I will get in touch with second person and let them know it's available and agree they have xx time to pay me. If the first person then sends the money it'll be refunded (if there's another buyer who now 'has' it. Fairest way I can do it, and I also like to post the info in the sales thread so other buyers know exactly what the status is - I really don't like all this 'do the deal via PMs', I've got nothing to hide and it keeps other potential buyers informed if it becomes available again. (As if anything I sell is that desirable!!)
  6. Thanks, will get in contact with them. Looking round at the various options that are available I quite like the open versions that show the balance, pallet fork and escapement. I'm not really that fussy if it's a striking 10th or not, and thinking about it from the futures point of view, I doubt the striking 10th would recoupe the extra outlay after it's a year or more old purely for the complication. The fact it's a limited edition will help, but by how much I don't know. I'm certainly not looking at this as an "investment", but minimising losses is only sensible, the main thing is I get something I will hopefully really like wearing for quite a few years.
  7. I can't remember this happening to me (but I have got a crap memory!)
  8. Does he have your home address? I would think he would need that to attempt to steal your identity. It's a bit of an unknown who you should inform that someone may be trying to create a fake identity based on your details, the bank - tell them not to act on anyone trying to change any of your details. Paypal - I know if you tell them anything they'll just change your password which as this person doesn't know it will just inconvenience you, I don't think they bother to do anything else, completely relying on their automated systems. Keep an eye on your email account(s) - if you cannot log onto it at any time that would be immediately very suspicious - I'd also change the email password every few days for a few weeks - if someone has cracked the password they may leave it as it is so you never know, and they just keep logging in and trying to intercept any "password reset" emails. Changing the password yourself would stop this.
  9. Keep on looking in the M2M sections on all the 4 forums, these are quite a popular watch and they come up for sale regularily in the black/black, black/orange, orange/orange, 42mm and 45.5mm sizes, and 2500 and 8500 versions.
  10. panerai, were the ones you saw the Stratos (thick bezel) or the Chronomaster? This is like the one I am looking at, Chronomaster:-
  11. Thanks guys. 508, I can see you like them from your photo $4500 is a lot cheaper than the price this guy is asking, £4750. Even adding 25% import duties that works out too £3592. Bargain! Lets have a look on Chrono24.
  12. Hi chaps, Just wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark figure for one of these? I can check the prices on Chrono24 but those prices are what they are asking, not what they've sold for. Limited edition run, of 1969 watches IIRC. New in Dec 2013, Zenith El Primero Striking 10th in traditional colours - tri coloured sub dials on silver dial. Chap is selling it to raise money, comes on leather plus the correct Zenith bracelet. Cheers, Richard
  13. There's a few watchsmiths in the EU, US and Aus. I don't know of any in SA. I would guess you would be in the best position to know about any customs problems you may have, and if it'd be easier to send it to EU, US or Aus? Do a new post asking if anyone knows if there are any watchsmith in your location.
  14. So you have wound it and left it sitting with the case back on and it stops? You are right in that if it's wound by hand, even if the rotor is sticking on the caseback it should still run for longer than a day. If it's working OK when you wear it and only runs for a short time when sitting on a table that could be many thing, from too much oil, no oil, broken jewel, misalignment. If you like the watch and want it to last a good few years the best advice is to get one of the watchsmiths here to properly service the movement. In most cases that'll get it working properly, and if there is some problem with the movement they can sort that out easily. Getting a replacement movement is not a guaranteed solution, as these Asian & Chinese movements aren't put together in clean rooms, so have dirt in them and can also arrive with no oil or too much oil, so you may well end up needing the new movement serviced.
  15. Haha, true. Which is more high maintenance? An A7750 straight from the TD or a new pussy
  16. One that does not need winding up 3 year old Bengal kitty, just adopted him today. Getting on OK with the current kitty, bit of hissing from resident to newcomer but not as bad as I was expecting.
  17. The places that the dealers get the watches from don't have the resources to make a huge range, they see what is new or popular and make batches of those. They're out to make a profit after all, and if the new model will sell far better than last years model, last years model won't be made again. Some watches are always popular and are batches of them are frequently made, but a lot aren't. You'll likely find there are some very poor quality dealers that sell a wide range of watches, but these are the $20 ~ $50 "works for a week or more and you're lucky" junk that only have a passing resemblance to the original, and none of those dealers are trusted dealers here. I'd post again in the manufacturer specific forum (Rolex/Omega/Panerai, etc) forum with the details of the watch you're after, you'll likely get a better response. These "sticky" threads are just placeholders for information really, if you have any other questions it's best to start a new thread (here or in a more specific forum) to ask it in.
  18. Usually falling off a bike onto your knees and you don't need a syringe to extract the liquid, the gravel has removed lots of the skin for you, and sometimes flesh and some bone You must have learned the ways of falling on your knees!
  19. I suppose you could sit in a bath for a week. That would make it all wet and wrinkly. Same goes for the wart. (sorry, I'll get my coat... )
  20. It's definitely still running, the auction house video showed it running, stopwatch and chimes. Servicing anything with that many parts in it must be a *very* logical procedure. Get lots of part trays with 1200 (or however many parts it has) individual compartments, all numbered, and take 1200 photos as every part comes off, all annotated with where the smeg the part came from. Work in a totally sealed oxygen tent to make it easy to find the "ping-fu$kit" parts. Have a very good friend with all the tools to reproduce any part that breaks. And charge about $150,000 for the service! Probably take a good few months to do it properly.
  21. Sorry to hear that Mickey. I hope the chemo works quickly and she doesn't need too many sessions.
  22. Video of the Tower of London poppy field http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxWY6tKgN78&feature=youtube_gdata
  23. You appear to be selling a rep AP and claiming it is 100% authentic?
  24. I think it would be fine if you used it regularly, but having lots of part time hobbies and also being a couch bear who likes hibernating in front of the TV means mine doesn't get used that much! (I was taking a drug that is used for quite a few symptoms, one being a sleeping pill. Was taking it for a while, over a year, so my brain relied on it to sleep. Now I don't take it my body / brain is slowly relearning how to sleep, it's very odd - currently tired all the time and need 10+ hours of sleep a night)
  25. Low fentanyl level? I guess you are on it for painkillers. I was on it for a while, transdermal patches. Works well but knocks you for six sometimes and a bugger to wean yourself off. Glad to hear you were found and taken care of after your bad spell! I'm sure there would be plenty here that would be happy to help you find the funds for a gen, and likely someone here has the gen you are thinking about. My thoughts are with you and your son, enjoy every day.
