need help with gen purchase form vintage expert :)

That is a good price. I lucked out and got my 16800 for 3.5k. Figured I'd need to negotiate but the seller said ok to my surprise. 16800 uses a 3035. If the lugs say 16800, it is a quickset date and the date is counterclockwise it is a 3035. -
Actually the flat 4 is correct for a tritium pearl and they were also available for luminova pearl. Modern replacement inserts with super luminova pearls are a pointy 4. If your dealer has anymore pearls I need one for my gen 16800. Lost my pearl the other day. Or I'll buy that pearl. Eiffel you could please let me know. Thanks

Alligoat is correct. I own a 16800 from 1984 With the mkIII matte dial. The 16800 was offered through 1988. 168000 for 7-8 months and then the 16610. Keep one thing in mind since this is a gloss dial 16800 that it's value is lower then a matte 16800. Currently the 16800 mattes are the cheapest vintage Rolex sub since they are an in-between. Many view the gloss dial 16800 as mearly an "old" sub and thus with no significant value over a 16610. If the seller is asking more then 4-4.5k you are on the high end of a 16800 (especially for a gloss dial). Also, the date changes counterclockwise and the time adjustment is the opposite of a 3135. -
Didn't know if this was posted here before so if it was, my apologies. Just thought it was really cool. Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=namj9CES-TE Part 2: Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNcf5o9N3WA http://www.youtube.c...A&v=ZNcf5o9N3WA

Buy the seller. Ask for receipts to show it is an OEM gen strap. If they ant be produced always remember I buy the seller.

Gen was just posted on VRF today.

As others have said, only difference is the click spring. I installed a GMT click spring in my 16800 so I could have a bi-directional bezel. Works beautifully.

Is the MBW retaining ring difficult to press on?
gavidoc replied to Robaer's topic in The Rolex Area
Easiest way to check is to look at the 3 and 9 sides of the case. If you see a rippling effect in the metal then it's bent. If you don't see that try the caseback. If you can get it started it won't be flush when tight at the 3 and 9 sides. -
Is the MBW retaining ring difficult to press on?
gavidoc replied to Robaer's topic in The Rolex Area
Did the watchmaker have caseback on when she tried pressfitting the crystal on? If not the case might be bent now. Happened to me on my first one as I didn't sand the retaining ring. $150 or so down the tubes as the caseback wouldn't sit flush after that. The following builds I did I sanded the ring and had no issues. -
as jmb said. Www.mscdirect.com I got mine locally at the grainger supply for the same price

One side of me says....cool. The other says yuck. I like the concept but the idea of adding a ten movement to this fantasy is where my tastes differ. I contemplated an abyss for what it is and would have gotten one if it had abyss on the dial. To me it's one thing to customize a gen to suit your needs and I understandthe popularity of the pro hunter for some. I did the same when I customized my gen omega seamster 300. Modding a rep to suit your needs is one thing and I applaud the initiative. Adding a movement like the 1030 though IMO is a bit much. Hope that line of reasoning makes sense.

2784 dial will fit a 2846 but don' tknow if a 2824 will fit a 2784 as I think the dial feet on a 2824 are thicker.
-
I'll give it a try but there isn't much "sleeve" to squeeze.

Anyone know? Working on a DSSD rep bought while in China and the hands are too loose on the post. Need to replace them all. Thanks, john

it does look pretty nice. I was wondering what if you added the numbers to the dial as others have said and removed them from the bezel. This is what I was thinking of: AM in orange like your hand, PM in dark blue. 12 is possibly a split between the two colors. I also think your dial would be more powerful without the date function.

It's ok but gen snowflakes can be had for $1800-$2500. I'd hold off and set aside funds for a gen.

Check out this interesting ETA 7750 for a vintage Daytona.
gavidoc replied to gavidoc's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks for the comments guys. I wish I knew what watch the movement came from but the seller obtained it in a huge movement and parts sale that he conducted with a local jeweler (he's in Hungary) that takes in old gold cased watches and melts the gold down and sells the left over parts. It will more then likely need a service but I paid less then 200 for the thing so I can't complain. I just ordered two DW daytonas (a 2 color white PN and a black standard) so I'll have to decide which one to put the movement in. -
Hey Mike, I'm going to be using it on a vintage Daytona 6263. Hopefully that won't be a problem as the only change is the movement of the 30 min counter to the 3 position. Didn't know that the Gen Graham was done like this. So these are available from ETA still like this?
-
Great news Mike. Especially when you consider the dial layout....3, 6, 9. Check out this interesting modification done to it. Perfect for a Daytona rep. The good thing is that I won't have to use the Asian mod to convert a standard ETA 7750 to the 3,6,9 layout. As it has 2 extra jewels, I guess this would be a 19 jewel 7750?
-
I'm ok with it being old as long as it is legit.
-
Asked about the validity of an ETA 7750 as I was really interested in it. Turns out that it is an older 7750 and not hte newer ones as it has the plastic break and the circle under the regulator. I was ok with that due to the uniqueness of it. What had originally caught my eye was a an extra part that had 2 extra gears on it and the lack of a date wheel and day wheel. Not to mention the pivot points for those gears are jeweled. check out the interesting extra gears....What could that be? Well from the pictures (I just bought it) it looks like a pre-7753 tri-compax 3,6,9 dial layout. Look at the location of the chrono hands. Those extra gears are used to move the 30 min. counter from 12 to 3. so, if that's the case, I now have an ETA 7750 with a 3,6,9 mod that appears legit as the mainplate looks to have been modified for it. So no need for the extra Asian 7750 mod. This baby will be going into the soon to be bought DW Daytona I'm going to get.

They offered teh Jumbo Tudors as well in the late 70's - 80's IIRc. Size was 38mm.

Is all the dial text necessary? What about just Commando? I would loose the circle T. Doesn't make sense to be honest.
