Its a TW best....one of the best rep subs you can buy. Have someone reccess the insert and install a WM pearl and trim the CG and you have a 98% close to gen sub.

I have a 1999 TT DJ gold dial with roman numerals in perfect new condition. Whats it worth? (not for sale)
-
I understand Chris's points. It would be great if we could convince a factory that making a great no date would be worthwhile......larger lug holes and all!
-
1) V3 as base model 2) Clarke crystal 3) 14060 dial (of course) 4) Correct bracelet with a FLUSH and perfect fit between the end lugs. 5) Recessed insert with WM pearl 6) Choice of movements 7) Correct lug holes and fitted with 2mm springbars. Sorry...missed my most important point...MUST have the correct sized springbars/lug holes! Chris..If you can do all this I THINK you can charge that bit extra you need to get it done. The end result will be ala BK with his fully modded Subs. However you can buy a good rep sub anywhere.......YOU will be the sole sourse for the 14060!

Chris is 100% correct that if all dont agree as to what we want its not going to happen in the first place. Here is what I think we should have. Lets all agree on this asap bearing in mind that we cannot ask for 100% perfection. 1) V3 as base model 2) Clarke crystal 3) 14060 dial (of course) 4) Correct bracelet with a FLUSH and perfect fit between the end lugs. 5) Recessed insert with WM pearl 6) Choice of movements If above is done right we will have a great watch. I want one with a gen ETA.

Chris: I dont see any pics on your website of a V3. Can you posts some showing the lug holes with the bracelet on? Is there a member who can act as a modder that could receive these watches and drill out the lug holes and install the proper spring bars? I have had no luck with anyone doing this for me. One guy nearly ruined my MBW 1665 GWSD in the process!

Im in. Let me know how and when..... when it comes to the deposit. However I must reiterate and I HOPE everyone will back me up....it must be done R I G H T! No gaps where the end links meet the case, no super high crystal, No huge defects period. Also can you tell me why the case holes cannot be drilled the correct size to begin with??? If the case is coming without the holes and the holes need to be drilled then why not drill them the proper size? The proper LOOK of this watch is to be able to see the ends of those springbars when looking at the sides of the case.

Im in but also worried. Lets do it right. Im tired of disappointments.

Chris: There is no doubt that if you, the factory and the incredibly knowledgable posters on this board work together and REALLY rep this watch right you will sell hundreds of them. Its a simple watch and should be easily repped but at the same time dont skimp. I remember Silex getting everyone excited over a BOND sub a few years ago and although a decent rep for the money it was WAY off from what it could have been. Lets make a solid rep with proper lug hole size, proper size spring bars and perfect fitting bracelet end lugs. If you can make it right and it comes in around 300 bucks...Ill buy TWO!

Bk's SD should be amazing but it wont be available until first quarter of next year. Your best bet is to talk with Jacko over on REPGEEK. He sells fully modded Super SD that right now are the next best thing to a gen.

Generally an all gold sub wont be a very convincing replica. I would suggest a TT Sub which you can buy from Bk. Look in the "collectors" section and you will see a section for Bk. Send him a message and he will advise you from there. Go with a swiss eta movement and also get all the fantastic mods that Bk offers. With all this you will in the end have a very convincing rep sub that with care will last you a very long time.

I failed to mention that I already have a gen TT DJ from 1999 that I bought while traveling in HK. Its still brand spanking new since I rarely wear it. (only special occasions) I remember that when I bought this DJ I saw many subs under the counter and did not even consider buying one! My how my thoughts have changed! I see that I can buy a gen Sub brand new from ebay for under 4800. (reputable seller) My wife has given me the OK.......BUT Im still undecided. A new watch is always so exciting rep or gen but at the same time that 4800 could be used for other more practical purposes. Add to this that I already have 40 or more watches!!!!

Well....I turn the big 50 in a few months. I have a big collection of rep and gen watches. Among the reps I have a TW best Sub, a MBW LV Sub, and finally another MBW which looks like what WM9 is offering. All three were fully modded by BK. I also have a MBW 1680 and 1665 that have been well modded. The question is should I go ahead and spend $5000 for a brand new Sub as a present to myself for my 50th BD? I am wearing my WM9 type MBW sub right now and with all Bk's modds along with the nicely fitting bracelet I was able to find (no sloppy end link fit!) I am torn between the wonderful and exciting idea of buying a gen sub and the practical side which tells me that what I already have is "good enough". What does everyone think?

There is no easy way to remove/replace the end links. Your best bet is to buy a MBW or TW Best bracelet and swap it. These end links fit tight in my experience. However these will have solid mid links. The gen has hollow mid links.

New insert coming for me V5 DSSD....How do I change it?
perry563 replied to perry563's topic in The Rolex Area
The problem is the original pearl which appeared to turn green once exposed to sunlight. I recieved the new insert and installed it with "gorilla glue".....just the smallest of drops from the end of a toothpick. The new insert is now fully recessed and looks much better than the original with the engraving slightly whiter and of course the white pearl. It would be nice though to have an insert with a more correct pearl. It looks as if the gen has a similar pearl as compared with the old model Sub and SD.....a pearl encased in a plastic bubble. -
New insert coming for me V5 DSSD....How do I change it?
perry563 replied to perry563's topic in The Rolex Area
I got the insert in the mail today. I give Chris alot of credit trying his best to make things right after sending me a less than great V5. BUT.......Does the latest insert that comes with the V5 have a sort of flat top pearl? It looks like its just a white piece of plastic as opposed to an actual pearl ala traditional subs etc. Can someone show me there V5 pearl? -
Can someone tell me the best way to remove the current insert on my V5 DSSD and then replace it with a new impoved version from Eurotimz? Do I need to pop off the bezel (hope not!) or is there a way to remove the insert without taking off the bezel? Any help would be appreciated greatly!
-
I bought one of the first V5s from Eurotimz. It arrived with less than great QC. However Chris sent me a new bracelet which is perfect and he is now sending me a new insert/pearl to replace the greenish pearl that was sent originally. However can someone tell me how to best remove and then replace the new insert. I know on the old MBW types it was fairly easy to pop off the bezel and remove and replace the insert. Is it as easy with the DSSD V5?

You can spend weeks going from shop to shop trying on gen watches in HK. My first trip there in 1999 I bought a new Rolex TT DJ for $3600 total. That same watch in the US would have cost me $5200 plus tax. I bought it at what I was told was the most reputable watch dealer in HK...Ruby Foo's. My second trip I bought a Rado ceramic diastar which listed for $1600 for $1000 cash...again no tax. I have no idea if you will get the same deals now with the way the dollar has plummeted in value over the years. If I remember most of the shops are over near "times square" downtown HK. Even if you are not into Rolex it may be a good idea to check them out. I would gobble up a new sub in a second if I could get a great deal on it like I did the DJ.
-
I try to stick with the ETA movements and limit my exposure to the asian types. I have many reps and all work well....certainly nothing is falling apart. As with any fine instrument...handle with care.
-
I have a gen Rado ceramic, ultra thin which I never wear but it is an elegant watch to wear and always is noticed. I bought it in HK back in 2003. Back then you could get all sorts of great deals on any watch in any store you would walk into. I also bought a TT datejust in 1999 which was going for 5200 everywhere in the US (plus tax) and I could find no one to discount. I bought mine near times square HK for 3600.....no tax. Another watch I rarely wear except for special occasions....looks brand new.
-
Personally..I dont get it. They take a perfectly new beautiful Rolex, then mod it to make it worthless. Display case back on a Daytona? Remove the CG on a Sub? Why?
-
Of the two which is the better choice? I was looking at the Eurotimez website and I cant decide. Is one closer to gen than the other?

Freddy: So the latest version of MBW will accept a Clark crystal and a PMWC insert? I thought the latest MBW were dimensionally altered so that gen parts would no longer fit? Can you tell me which crystal is the right one for a 5512 or 5513? Regards and thanks again.

I have another question/request. Someone on here PMed me when I asked if I could find a modder for my 1680 and 1665. So I sent him my watches and he ended up doing a not so great job. Anyway.....with the MBW when you take off the end links there are two "washers" that are on the spring bars that keep the end links from having too much "play". Two of these washers is missing and I was wondering if anyone had a couple of spares they could pop in an envelope and send to me? I am located in NJ USA. Thanks.
