Noob v5 SUB-C bezel and bezel insert removal - question to modders
GenTLe replied to GenTLe's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks dbane! I'll take care -
Hi All, sure to find here the biggest experts in these kind of Rolex topics, can I ask you a couple of things? I have got a nice Noob subC v.5, and it has the bezel insert which is a bit out of center with 12 marker. Even if it is something common on the gens too (see: http://forums.watchu...ent-894535.html ) one day I may want to fix it... I suppose I should: take out the bezel:heat it a bit (like putting it in the oven at 80°C) to make the glue softcarefully start to use a very sharp knife (i.e. a surgery scalpel) between the bezel and the bezel insert, this way: Once the bezel insert is off, clean its internal partRemount the bezel on the watch head (same movie of 1st point, from 1:00)refit the bezel insert with like 4 dots of glue at 10-20-40-50 (is bi-adhesive tape better?)May you experts comment on this? Is the way to remove/refit the bezel shown in the video correct? We are speaking of a Noob SubC... I don't know if it is like a gen one... Is the rest of the procedure correct? Is there anything I should take particular care (like bits that flies away etc)? Thanks, GenTLe

For Panerais nothing beats the "Ale's Pam Guide". It is over RWI and is a fully comprehensive review of all models and versions in the rep market. Google it to find the url.

100% agree. Personally I have set it up to send me a mail for every purchase bigger than 10Eur and an SMS for everyone over 200Eur: I don't use the card so much here in Italy: I prefer the debit card for the everyday activities. Also here with most of the banks you have 2 other security options: 1) the best in my view, is the "virtual card": you logon to your bank site with the mix of codes you need to enter there, and you can create a virtual Visa or Mastercard that has a valid number/expiration and security code. You can declare the max amount it can contain (like a prepaid one, but the cash is not taken from your account until you use the card) and tell if it is a "one-use burnt" (meaning that after the first usage it becomes not usable anymore and you need to create another virtual one) or if it can be valid for some months. 2) The 3D secure method, which is just another layer of security of your card (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D_Secure) but I don't love it...

A bit difficult to put on the wrist (Long Now Clock project)

The sponsor is the owner of Amazon and inventor of PayPal... You know when you have TOO MUCH money you can also do things like these And the chimes have been studied by Brian Eno (U2) too, so they should be interesting -
What about these? Gen vs Rep: DIMENSIONS rep: 38mm x 48mm x 14mm DIMENSIONS gen: 38mm x 48.24mm x 12.73mm DIMENSIONS rep: 44mm x 16.5mm DIMENSIONS gen: 44.2mm x 14.2mm I'd also give a look to these 2: http://www.intime.co/jaeger-lecoultre/1167-jaeger-lecoultre-rg-white-pearl-face-flying-tourbillon.html http://www.intime.co/cartier/1764-ballon-bleu-tourbillon-ss-blue-textured-dial-on-black-leather-strap.html

Recommendations on a 21 x 16 mm leather strap?
GenTLe replied to Revere's topic in General Discussion
Donerix for top quality (but on the expensive side). For cheap real croc then you can ask these 2 (the ones MOAB was referring to): http://www.sobek-leather.com/ (around 50$ for a custom made croc one)http://stores.ebay.com/vnhandcraftart (around 40$ for a custom made croc one) -
"I want to build a clock that ticks once a year. The century hand advances once every 100 years, and the cuckoo comes out on the millennium. I want the cuckoo to come out every millennium for the next 10,000 years." http://vimeo.com/56495936 There is a Clock ringing deep inside a mountain. It is a huge Clock, hundreds of feet tall, designed to tick for 10,000 years. Every once in a while the bells of this buried Clock play a melody. Each time the chimes ring, it’s a melody the Clock has never played before. The Clock’s chimes have been programmed to not repeat themselves for 10,000 years. Most times the Clock rings when a visitor has wound it, but the Clock hoards energy from a different source and occasionally it will ring itself when no one is around to hear it. It’s anyone’s guess how many beautiful songs will never be heard over the Clock’s 10 millennial lifespan The priciple behind the design: Longevity: With occasional maintenance, the clock should reasonably be expected to display the correct time for the next 10,000 years. Therefore:Go slowAvoid sliding friction (gears)Avoid tickingStay cleanStay dryExpect bad weatherExpect earthquakesExpect non-malicious human interactionDont tempt thieves Maintainability: The clock should be maintainable with bronze-age technology. Therefore:Use familiar materialsAllow inspectionRehearse motionsMake it easy to build spare partsExpect restartsInclude the manual Transparency: It should be possible to determine operational principles of the clock by close inspection. Evolvability: It should be possible to improve the clock with time. Scalability: It should be possible to build working models of the clock from table-top to monumental size using the same design. Therefore (both evolvability and scalability): Make all parts similar sizeSeparate functionsProvide simple interfaces More info: http://longnow.org/clock/ PS: reacking the pinions? I don't think so... PS2: for those ones complaining about the difficulty to read the new SevenFriday V series dials, well, look at this:

At 23yo it is a normal salary here too (sono di Varese) unless you are so lucky to find a "real" long term job. And the working situation is messy even for experienced people with highly specialized knowledge, and responsibilities, like myself I have a 200kkm Alfa 156, still a great car with a fantastic frame and suspensions. Only modifications are 17' wheel, a modification to EGR valve, eibach springs and the official Alfa "minigonne" (don't know the English word...). Those cars are amazing with no flaps in my view: they are both sporty and elegant and I let those stuff to the so called "tuners" (car destroyers in my eyes). Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk

Com'on, letting apart that sad aftermarket flap, that one is a great car EDIT: you are 23, have a 159 and it is not enough? Com'on!!!! That is a car that here in Italy is got from people that works from 20 years...

Understood... I need to contact Donerix Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk

Today is my AP-questions-day looks like... I have bought a Diver like in the subject in the m2m section of rwg.bz arena. It has some small problems, like a stem unscrewed crown, a broken rubber strap "ring", and few scratches on the bezel, so it came relatively cheap respect to the new one. I have already ordered some cheap spare rubber "rings" from the Bay and I will fix the stem (probably taking the opportunity to service the movement). My question is about the bezel. Since I want to rebrush/polish it, I want to remove the crystal before. I remember that some models of the APs have the crystal which it just pressed between the midcase and the bezel, so if you unscrew the bezel the crystal is ready to be removed without the crystal press. Do you know if this is the case or not? Thanks, GenTLe.

Oh, so there's something inside the rep strap that makes them so tricky! Mystery solved Thanks Marti!
-
I still don't get if they have something particular (apart the cuts and shape) or not...What I mean is that I couldn't get (by now and not having removed any from my APs by now) if they have something "specific" inside, like a metal/plastic lamina (see Cartier Santos) or any other particularity that makes them so expensive (even the standard cow leather ones) and/or difficult to find. For example, providing to give to a random strap maker a detailed technical draft like the one I made for my Chopard 1000Miglia (see below), will him/her be able to create one good for my watch or there's something I'm missing that will make it unusable? Thanks, GenTLe

The 1st watch replicators were the Swiss people copying UK and French ones centuries ago.
