  1. The tuning fork analogy is great. incredible.. I had no idea we had tiny gold dipped TUNING forks in our quartz watches!!
  2. the saga never ends..... 97% correctness will never increase to 99%... nicely rounded pearl.. still some errors though.. With a v6.. why wouldn't they use the nice conical caseback in titanium... gen part swaps would be nice for this watch... alas.. I fear it will never be
  3. Supply is dry on the SOSF. BUT with the reps that have been coming out over the past month an a half.. I wouldn't put it past them to put out a new production run of the SOSF.. disputably the most accurate and popular Breitling to date!
  4. I've missed Victoria as well. The only person that had redwatch beat for most posts in their first year.. she had something like 5,000 in one year!! She was a funny gal !!! Lani has been here and there.. but nothing like the normal Lani presence we were accustomed to pre-2010. HOpefully lani is back in full force in 2011! we've missed your wiseness Lani! (and more importantly.. your never ending collection and wristshots! Tats included!)
  5. I'd say rep, but hard to tell... 3 things get my attention: 1. second hand needle color seems to light 2. Endlinks gaps between endlinks and bracelet 3. Bezel pearl triangle goes to high to the edge of the bezel insert... couldn't be for sure though, because of the corrected logo. and looks like this one has been used a bit due to scuff marks and scratches on the bracelet...
  6. My general consensus is the same as most of yours. I'm an RWG guy all the way, but am members of RWI and RG. RWG just seems to have the perfect mix of class, knowledge, modesty and "free-speech". We might not compete with RG on the post level, but quality over quantity always wins in my books Besides that.. our board has the cleanest look of all of them
  7. Dont think any came with titanium caseback... The cartel doesn't sell anything but the V3 anyways.. Their ultimate is just a V3 with "better" steel, beveled date, slightly improved dial, and corrected bezel at 10 o'clock for the most part. Case, bracelet, and caseback haven't changed though. But maybe I'm wrong.. I'd love a titanium caseback!
  8. Cool video from the engineerguy:
  9. a myth no longer...???
  10. Wish you had contacted me ALOT earlier Big... I've been working on this project for a year almost(you'll notice the date on the original post)... an still no good results. Pricepoint is crucial for me.. and first estimates from the first few factories were ridiculous. This crystal is only a prototype.. getting the egde thickness right and it should be perfect. I guess the race is on to see who gets it first! If my factory can get a better version produced I'm hoping that your crystal project doesn't take away too many interested folks on this thread.... The pricing on my crystal depends directly on how many interested folks we have. If 50% get your crystal, then I'm afraid I'll probably have to abandon my project p.s. your crystal is 1:1 with the gen crystal? Have you fitted a gen crystal to a 253 yet? If so, which version. My crystal is mae from a mineral sample... an SHOULD have come out 1:1.. but looks like the factory f-ed the prototype edge height. Not sure that V1 crystals will be candidates. The V2, V3/V4 and new V5(i THINK V5) should be perfect matches for my crystal.. Still haven't had anyone take out a new V5 crystal for me and measure it with calipers....
  11. looks great! beautiful watch
  12. Sorry guys, I've been pretty busy and am just getting back to you guys on the crystal. I originally posted this last week.. but looks like the post was deleted in the fire... Anyway I'm reposting pics of the protoype crystal .. so here's the deal: The crystal was simple to install .. quality is excellent and the sapphire crystal is twice as clear as mineral. It has nice inner AR. THE PROBLEM: the prototype is not tall enough, the dome is less pronounced. I have contacted the factory to see if you can correct the problem. If they can't .. then I fear we may be seeing the end of this dream! : ( This just proves Murphy's law. Anyways.. I've contacted the factory and I'm going to try to install it on another PAM253 of a friend of mine here in madrid.. If it's just as short on his watch then it means they didn't get the dimensions right. Here are some pictures. Sapphire prototype on right: Sapphire on right.. AR makes a slight difference The crystal's edge needs to be thicker... Sapphire on right again: Mineral thickness: Sapphire prototype thickness: Sapphire prototype profile on watch: Mineral profile on watch: prototype installed faceshot: In summary, the prototype should be thicker at the edges. Keep you updated on the issue. Sorry I couldn't be the bearer of better news ... Hopefully it will get resolved

I agree with modelizer with the exception that you should get the watch serviced and lumed at the same time you swap the Datewheel. Since you have to remove the hands to install the datewheel and apply lume anyways.. you mind as well service the movement. The first thing then, could be AR.. Relatively easy to take out a crystal, and barely no messing with the movement in order to get out the crystal.
  14. 100% agree Would love to get more participation from newbs etc. seems like the same normally active members commenting on this thread.. Something more discreet might be more effective in garnering participation. Not sure though.
  15. Not my style at all, but if you like, that's all that matters!
  16. doubt that actually replacing the crown and tube would be difficult. the difficulty lies in finding the parts.... I'd contact josh to see if he can get you rep tube and crown.. Not sure about where to source gen tube and crown though..
  17. So to be clear.. this is the official nomination thread? this is gonna be tough.... too many people here.. In general.. the newbies that have the most posts in their first year generally are the ones that tend to contribute the most (at least at first).. Red was a good example of that last year. Not sure there was anyone that posted more than him in one year.. I consider soo many of you all to be such great members. I think that if there were a way for nominations to be anonymous it would create more participation though.. Just my .02cents
  18. awesome EXPER!
  19. it's destro.... that's why the movement is flipped.... The crown stem can only engage the movement from one place on the movement. If the crown is on the other side of the case... You guessed right.. You have to turn the movement accordingly so that the crown will enter and engage the movement
  20. highly doubt it. unless it were a wm9.. even then.. i'm not sure
  21. ever find one? you'd probably do better to send it off.. but maybe a mall watch shop could point you in the right direcction. when i lived in the states.. there was a chinese jewelry shop owner that could fix or service anything.
  22. When I was a kid I would only wear watches on my right.. now I can only strap it on my left. I don't think I could even get the watch on my right if I tried nowadays.. straps are tricky! especially my Blacksteel!
  23. Welcome. Take a break from the geek for a while and join us over here!! Welcome!
  24. I'll post it again this afternoon if I got time
  25. updated this thread a last week.. with pics.. looks like they were lost in the fire...
