  1. That is the closest to the truth as you can get. Always tell them its a rep. or you'll wind up a rep. of a man in their eyes.
  2. Just a personal experience. I had been intrigued with the Quinting because of the cool factor of a see through watch with gears made of sapphire. I mean, how awesome is that. So last May I tried on a couple in Tourneau in Ceasars, Las Vegas. Now mind you they appear great looking in the pics but in your hand they are rather disappointing. Nothing really there to look at since, well, its clear. Its like someone painted a dial on your wrist. Its unique for a conversation piece to explain how it works, but as a watch not much to look at. Its so clean its boring. Guess after the wow factor wears off the buyer gets rid of it, that's why I noticed that all the Quintings that were for sale, and there were quite a few, were all in the pre-owned section of the store. That gave me the clue that my initial reaction when trying on and seeing it in person was probably correct. Ah well, metal gears seem to give a perception of skill even though the sapphire was harder to put together. They appear like a cheap watch in person.
  3. As the last superpower it now comes down to assuming being the world's policeman. With that comes responsibilities that are no longer manageable by any one country, there are no even checks and balances anymore, therefore the USA is viewed as the big bully. Terrorist, nothing new in history, is the only way to try to even the playing field for those that view us as overwhelming unsurmounting odds, comes with the role. And maybe we have assumed that world perception through ignorance, arrogance, apathy and complacency. The USA as a whole are not the most worldly knowlegeable society, we are so self-absorbed from economic superiority. I grew up and went through the Vietnam Era, from serviceman to hippie, I think that was more turmoil for our society than today, but I have the eyes of been-there-done-that syndrome so I no longer count. My children must craft this society to recognize that although we have tech for military superiority, we will eventually lose out in economic superiority to the Chinese. At that point the resilience against economic hardship on this country always will bring out the best as in the great depression of my parents. I believe my children are still and will make this country number one and carry on. I am an immigrant to the USA, although originally born here, left (China) and came back. I have traveled the world and been in other societies. No where else will you find the ability to succeed more evenly handed out to a populus than here. China may surpass us eventually in economy but the opportunities for an individual will always beckon populus of the world to try to flock to this country for the chance at individual freedom and escape there societal boxes. Sorry, I see hope where you see danger. We obviously need societal changes and recent events warrant the change. The scrutiny of our politicians has gotten finite to where it is not only living in a fishbowl for them but sainthood if they can fly under the journalistic radar. Unfortunately this warrants spin, and spin get tiring, we are all more mistrustful now of our leaders. But with all our problems I'd rather be here than "there" or I would've left. - a 10 Cane Rum soaked oration. ZZZZZZZZZ

  5. Good to hear, let us see it when you are done. Are you using the same dial that you showed previously on the centre tourbi?
  6. Well, Devedander, the plus of being able to find these quality reps is you fullfill that perceived desire for a certain model cheaply, regardless if your head is saying no. After you have the MOP Gold on you may find that it really isn't for you or that you become convinced it was the watch to end all watches. (Then you're stuck waiting for a better rep. to come along! ) I'm not a Rolex fan, but like you, the Daytona is one model that has always beckoned my interest. I finally purchased a rep. of the one that I've admired after trying it on at the AD a few times, the meteorite dial version of the new running at 6 models. I now know a Daytona, any version, ain't for me after wearing it for awhile, they just don't float my boat. Its a great way to find out your tastes. There is such a big perception difference between a picture, a short try-on and a month on the wrist. Although costly for some, the rep. is less of a wallet breaker for after-purchase remorse.
  7. Same as jfreeman, resort wear the norm here for business for everyone, laid back and casual. Think the constant year round island tropical temps. have something to do with it.
  8. "First pick your dealer, then your watch." has always been good advice. Every single individual here has a different opinion of what is acceptable in price, service and product offered by the different dealers. You have to go on your own instinct and sometimes experience, not others. Keep in mind that Paul is a volume seller, prone to the negative factors that go along with volume selling. No "cherry picking" of best out of a batch for you, no QC before its shipped, no personalized service, or instant communication or delivery. Some of us are willing to put up with that for the prices, some not since they like a bit more guaranty of QC, friendly Q&A & service before and after. I've also experienced the send to the Georgia watchsmith for DOA delivery from Paul, its not a big thing for me. :
  9. I agree with Linder, take a dual time when traveling. And with all those gens you can afford and brag about to the rep guys here DuDro, how about a few measly bucks to bring your membership up to supporter status?
  10. Thanks addingwatch for taking the time to respond. I just had to hear that from someone else to confirm my own inate feelings. Still haven't found one of these centre tourbis in a case/dial that I like yet. Patience, patience!
  11. I've been looking at this Chinese Centre Tourbillon on ebay and was wondering what some of the members thought of this look? This SS Sport Tourbi is different and the white on white markers and hands could probably be more functional with a superluminova job.
  12. Thor, here is a flash demonstration of the carousel tourbillon which is what you will be receiving. http://www.blancpain.com/e/complications/tourbillon/ Omni
  13. In country - normally three for different situations I might happen into; one sports, one dress, one multi-time zone. Any country I have to pass through customs - the same 3 but with the invoices handy.
  14. Thank you, in a strange way, a weekend going for some quality time with your son, it turned out through adversity to be more quality than was expected and we have better respect for each other.
  15. So I'm finishing up a camping trip with my 17 year old son this morning and we are lying in our tent at the 6,500 ft. elevation on Mt. Haleakala, Maui in the Hawaiian Islands, just ready to make breakfast. Rumbling through with the trees swaying and falling is a long 6.6 Magnitude quake. We were wondering if we were gonna get squished by a falling tree. So we lay there for a few minutes and look around, bang, 10 minutes later a 5.8 aftershock. It was a fast breakfast and packing up job. We are in an offroad mountain area so it was boulder city rock fall on the road all the way back down the mountain. The power got knocked out all over the islands and just came back on in the afternoon so interesting end to a weekend! Whew.
  16. Naaah, but its great marketing! Any watch with a GMT hand can be used as a compass. From a Rolex 1966 GMT Master brochure. "In the Northern Hemisphere the Rolex GMT-Master may also be used as a compass. Simply point the hour hand towards the sun and automatically the red 24-hour hand will point to the North! Try it...! In the Southern Hemisphere it will point to the South."
  17. Conversations with TeeVee can do that.
  18. Here on the equator in the middle of the Pacific, its just summer, period. Winter air - that's a slap on the knee funny scam I've never heard of before! To those who actually state their personal limit on a rep., trust me, you will always eat your own words eventually.
  19. It is true about having a hard time getting it repaired, IF you ever need it repaired. But that post was by Ziggy on RWG1 back in December '05 and it was the only one. Dealer Eddielee has sold many and personally owned several with a 100% no-failure track record. If you want a real tourbillon this would be the cheapest route. I personally have not been dissappointed in the movement or the quality. But I am dissappointed that the skinny Breguet hands make it fairly impossible to read on the skeleton, rendering useless for telling time (At my age I would like to tell the time on a clock without my glasses!). I'm having the hands replaced with larger gold ones. A tourbillon movement, chinese or swiss, is going to be difficult to repair, parts impossible to get. Even genuines are nortorious for repairs, these are delicate complicated movements, not something you would treat like a sports watch. But vric makes a very valid point, if this is your first rep. then maybe something less complicated would be better and also something that better represents an original genuine, if representation of a genuine is what you're after. These tourbillons do not represent any genuine brands well. In my opinion one should just purchase a no-name tourbi watch at this point until the chinese made centre tourbillons drop in price and tourbi reps begin to look more like the orginals gens.
  20. Members have probably already seen this but its the first time I've come across. So I thought I'd share if you haven't. ROLEX CROWN CUFFLINKS on ebay! The seller also carries Porsche Badge cufflinks.
  21. King has the plain skeleton for $790. Josh (Perfect-Clones) offers the Breguet skeleton rep with the cutout dial SS $898 or RG $998. There is a plain skeleton on ebay right now for a $680 "buy-it-now" price. This would lead me to the utmost conclusion that the swisshours site you got the picture from is a complete ripoff charging $1599 and $1499 respectively for the same watches. These have the 2nd generation flying duck tourbillon, it is a real carousel type tourbillon chinese movement no matter if it gets placed in a replica or not. I have had a 1st generation flying duck tourbi guilloché dial Breguet replica that has performed flawlessly for 18 months. I've been very satisfied with the movement. I don't suggest buying the skeleton with a cutout dial to try to remove later. Just buy the plain skeleton which really then doesn't need to be a rep of any brand does it? I also own the plain skeleton you have pictured on the left and have no problems with the movement, the quality excellent. The ebay price on this particular no-dial skeleton has been dropping from over $1,000 steadily for the last 3 months to as low as $630 and usually there are 2 to 3 on auction at any given time. Don't want to take your chances on the bay, try one of the dealers I mentioned above.
  22. That was great. To show how old I am, in the '70's I used to listen to Weird Al when he'd show up as a guest artist in the studio of the "Dr. Demento Radio Show" when I worked in So. Cal. Nostalgia-trippin' amongst other type's of "trippin'."
  23. 1. Tag Microtimer 2. Not a dealer, purchased from member Richard Lawton 3. Given away as 1st come-freebie in RWG1
  24. Which would bring it back to a watch is really a form of jewelry. In that sense, what you convey by what you wear is just common sense. A woman shouldn't flaunt diamond bracelets in public around dangerous neighborhoods, reserve the bling for social events. So say a gold Daytona would seem out of place but a SS sub would not walking down dark alleys, no matter how mean or big you may think you appear. Just make it a subtle looking watch gen or rep and you could take it anywhere on your travels, (and stay away from the gold chains and platinum rings!).
  25. Its a type 2 or "flying tourbillon regulateur". Why the type 2 with 4 screws in the design is often advertised as a "Regulateur" is only probably to distinguish it from the type 1 "flying duck" and to make it sound fancier. Both type 1 and 2 are basically the same type carousel system tourbillon and can be bought for less than $600 everywhere and from many of our dealers. Breguet invented the original center post tourbillon in 1800 so purists claim it is the "true tourbillon" only from the fact it is the original. But the variant "carousel system", used in some Blancpain and others, was invented clear back as 1895 or 1920, depending on what claims you read and for all arguments on what a tourbillon is and does, the "carousel system" is a tourbillon but it depends on what side of the fence you are on regarding this if you want to call it a "real tourbillon." My personal opinion is that the "carousel" system is a tourbillon. The centre post Chinese tourbis now coming out on the market should drop in price as they become more numerous, so just have patience. So of interest, in the genuine world, JLC shocked the world and announced around August they would be putting out for as low as a "mere 35,000 Euros" a "kill the goose that laid the golden egg for watchmakers" production line "Master Tourbillon". Gee, an affordable tourbillon for the masses, yeah right! But here is a fascinating breakdown of the new movement and watch. http://www.tp178.com/wsw/jlcforum/mas_tourb_02.htm
