  1. As Maxman said, just buy the gen and get on with it, you are obviously not made for the replica collecting world if you are asking for 99% accurate to the gen, get real, there will never be a 99% accurate replica to a gen unless its a gen. The best you can hope for is what he suggested, getting a movement that will mimic all the chrono functions accurately. tobe = to be "or not to be"
  2. Seller: Exmoor Lurcher in Lynton, North Devon??? No Samurai, it was more based on his most famous 1931 painting "Persistence of Memory" which established him. Often copied and finally licensed in his last years when he became all encompassing commercial, the wristwatch would have looked like this and "signed" supposedly by the artist. Unsigned copies are less than $100, quartz or questionable and all over ebay. I remember, but in my 60+ plus years, I've never seen one in person and I don't think they ever fetched much, even today. Dali became so commercial that he turned off the art community and true art collectors alike. (Lots of controversy still today about his collectible "art prints" of his work.) Still, he was a pioneer and will eventually be redeemed in "time" which would be justice and appropriate. You need to find the watch to go with the certificate.
  3. Welcome to the best international community of watch nuts, replica or gen you will ever come across, plus they are a great bunch of people. Its a small world with similar tastes.
  4. Two for me .........MB Platinum Star Reveil, ...... and a 1950's Rose Gold Vintage GP
  5. Quartz ETA 251.272 quartz Chronograph movement, I like the inflated claim, its a 52mm case but they call it 55mm including the crown, still a nice looking large HBB clone. $372 seemed like the right price for it. It'll come around again or pick it up used on ebay later when someone finds they can't wear that size of watch and dump it cheap.
  6. Very nicely done.
  7. A lot of history there regarding the dealers, a lot of good history there with Jeff G and the forum. Beautiful collection from a guy who knows his watches. Thanks.
  8. Have to behave this weekend for the wife , ..................so had to just finish the last of the bottle last night! Watch did come off my wrist for the shot though, same ol' Pam. Yes, I do have a sorta imbibing theme with my watches..........life's short, I've just shortened it by a few days.
  9. Having my own "In the Pink" celebration this weekend.
  10. A gen is a gen and no rep is going to be so exact that it can't be distinguished from a gen, especially when it comes to overall fit & finish, you can't compare the two. Almost all rep. aficionados on these forums, with large rep. collections, will always wind up buying a gen. or two or three........... Some like to justify their rep. collection sickness telling themselves that they can buy 30 reps for the price of a gen, but when it all comes down to it, a gen will somehow windup in the collection. That said, if you are thinking of getting the gen. Pam 104 or 111, it is just a matter of personal tastes as you can show it off to most people and they won't know what the hell it is. It is the personal satisfaction and feeling that you have for the watch, I can't get along very well without a date window since I'm in business and constantly looking for the date, thus I own a gen. 104. I could care less if I can see the movement, its just a personal satisfaction I have for the watch, (and after going through 25 reps!).
  11. @krustybrand: Not having ever held one in my hand, I viewed the J12s on Johsua's site and you are correct. Makes a whole lotta sense as how else would they put the solid links together, couldn't bake ceramic over the links. Every link on the back has two depressions that you mentioned. Well that seems the most easy and logical solution to cubancurly's inquiry.
  12. Yes, I was in my 20's during the mid '60s to mid-70's, the "Never Trust Anyone Over 30" Generation. I remember we knew it all, we were on the cutting edge of fashionable, so forward.......so cool we were, it gave everyone over 30 a head freeze. I knowingly look back at our "out there" fashions of look-at-me, notice-me, non-conventional/non-conservative appearance and shudder at the pictures I pull out of the photo album..........What the hell were we thinking? Youth, its wasted on the young, but everyone "get's it" sooner or later when they look in the mirror and suddenly see their parents staring back! PS: Lani, Congrats on your parents celebration, Ohana, no matter how small is just so important to me.
  13. If it is as hard as that then the simplest is take it to a jeweler to have these 4 holes drilled, they'll have a diamond bit with a press. Breaking the links seems simple but I bet it brings more chance for a total screwup of desired results.
  14. Understanding that there are only 2 pinned links on each side of the clasp links that can be removed, this means you are attempting to remove 3 links on each side (a total of six to fit your wrist). I am going to refer to the links as outer (top & bottom of a width view) and mid (middle link between the exterior top & bottom) At any hardware store you can buy a ceramic tile drill bit for very little that I would use on a Dremel. Since the pinned links on either side of the two clasp links are already workable, you will actually leave them on the bracelet and take off 3 solid outer links on each side. Drill out the pin on the side of the outer solid link that will allow you to remove 3 outer solid links on each side between it and the pinned outer link. Now just use the pinned outer links on each side of the clasp links to attach with their perfectly working pins to the mid-link left from the removal of the solid outer links. Save the links because if you ever want to give or sell this watch again, the drilled out solid links can be reattached by just finding another pin assembly to go into the holes you just put in that one outer link.
  15. There's so much gold to be mined in that statement, I'm not even going there! YET!
  16. Skeleton Tourbi
  17. I just got started on my evening cocktail, give me a little while, I'm sure I'll manage to see a lot of 4 leaf clovers in that pic. as the evening wears on!
  18. Great pair Lani, ya know you're gonna have to show me your collection one day but obviously not on the Superferry anymore . But Wednesday already???.........okay I guess in Eurotime but not in wet ol' Hawaii yet, I just got started on my day, Tuesday St. Patricks and just posted in the start of the week check thread, try not to speed it up for us old guys, I'm not in a hurry anymore.
  19. Just getting around this lazy afternoon to cleaning up for the 5:00 pm alarm set for cocktail hour. Happy St. Pat's!
  20. Thanks Doc!
  21. Boots, Belt, Banda & MB Carbon Fiber. A night out for the stingray ensemble.
  22. Maybe yes, but maybe not bad karma afterall as it may have not been destined to effect Dave at all. I got it as a gift from Blade, I gave it to Ubi, he auctioned it off for a good cause, Dave lost it, now somewhere, someone has the watch that eventually pays for it in the end. I've had some pretty expensive gen. mont blanc pens go "missing" off my desk over the years, I always chalk it up to "they must've been deemed to need it more than I" as I certainly didn't have a hand in determining who's hands it slipped into. But I didn't view it as a karma situation to me, I viewed it as a karma situation to the one that it winds up with. Sounds like a typical '70s hippy-dippy outlook doesn't it?
  23. Really nice bike, congrats.
  24. Beautiful rep, classic........................makes you stop and think though, as these addingwatch rep projects are all vintage, gives you pause to think when you are searching for a vintage watch to purchase.
  25. Means what, more posts means quality? Quality vs. Quantity is key for some people. If number of posts were a qualitative factor then even the RWG1.regurgitated has 20,000 post with 400 registered members in three months with very quick response, but content is .................... well, just experts in responding.
