Trying to get back into shape. Gave up jogging, started biking.
omni replied to fcaap_dan's topic in Style and looks
As only a 2 year old newly minted recreational biker, I did notice the above and also got the same good advice from some triathlete friends. I wanted to build up my withered partially paralyzed quads and I have a 20% grade hill climb in my subdivision. Takes me 10 minutes to make it up to the top and at first I really put on the pressure and didn't notice the knee joint ache because of the muscle aches, thought they were all related until the latter went away. Did my research, listened to the advice, geared down and now no aches. -
This debate is so over, so what do you think Omni would rebuild in December for his mundane typical office desktop "business" CPU? Reuse the obligatory "ying-yang" windowed Ling Li server case. Add new intel board, quad-core Intel 2.67 ghz, 3 gig DDR3 ram, Radeon X8000 graphics hooked up to 38 inch TV / monitor, couple of new drives. All this for simple crunching numbers, reading email and word processing. Complete overkill but it gets lots of attention during business appointments. All this upgrade for $800. Much fun customizing.

How'd I miss this? Superb story.

Go to the media, the squeaky wheel will get grease.

Okay, the demi dress ankle boot style it is. I would suggest not going with a printed exotic skin leather. Since you like the look of python and you'd like it in black, why not just opt for less expensive lizard skin as it will all look the same in black? I've wound up with boots from Mexico sold as exotic skins only to find they were embossed cowhide, mind you, very well done like you have pictured but still cowhide. It never comes out well in the end when they start having even a little wear. I do wear shoes other than boots and for exotics I prefer genuine lizard over snake skin, scales hold up better. Unfortunately, the only affordable pre-made snakeskin half boots are Giorgio Bruntini which all look like you just finished a flamenco dance session or came off the street as leader of the Sharks gang in "West Side Story." Caboots.com will make you any style toe, height, heel in any snake/lizard but will run you $500 - $600.

Well, when I switch from Opera Mini over to my regular BB Browser that came loaded, it looks like my laptop screen and everythings there, just slower loading. However, I might try Nanuq's ritual with my Storm which might wind me up in Kansas (in the funny farm!) -
Only in western style but they do come in black. On sale for £121.

You Englishmen are so much more refined & sophisticated than us country bumpkins across the pond!

Jolla: Notice that the first one doesn't have any chrono pushers, that should give you a clue why its thicker.

Thanks, but that don't work in my Opera Mini as the only choices I get are Classic and Low-Fi. Doesn't matter, I really don't like using my Blackberry to read the forums that much anyway unless I really, really, really have to have a fix until I get back to a laptop. Its just so I can say I can at this point. -

You could download Opera Mini, however I'm on a Blackberry Storm and the Search shows up, but, not the View New Posts now. -
Quite a diverse and not-so-diverse collection there. You will have to work on a front dial shot for everyone to appreciate. Congrats, that is an impressive array of HBB.

RoninQ: I think fcaap_dan said he had been running in cross trainers up to this point. Agree with you on the the type of shoe and your knees letting you know first! - I'm 6'1", 190 lbs, flat feet, light spongy running shoes are just not right for big heavy runners. Been using Asics Gel Kayanos exclusively over 10 years (now on model 15). They are stability for pronation. -
do you coordinate your watch and cufflinks when wearing french cuffs
omni replied to prince458's topic in Style and looks
Business here in the Hawaiian islands is laid back, we do wear long sleeve shirts but french cuffs / cuff links are non-existent. However, I do try to match my pens with my watch since I wear them in the pocket of shirts. I have a large collection of Mont Blanc that cover almost all bases. I also try to coordinate my drink I have in my hand. -

The running-specific shoes are a good step forward but you probably have guessed on your shin splints being from how you've planted your foot. One thing that helps, whether you run, jog or trot, if you wear a visor or cap, see if you can keep the visor/cap bill from moving the least amount by smoothing out your gait. Your head & vision shouldn't be bouncing / jarring around, aka "quiet running." That effort will force you to plant your feet properly, reduce joint pounding and make you last longer without pain. And remember, if you are just starting out all over again, there is always going to be pain somewhere the first couple of days, if it continues, that's where you have problems. Here's a good guide to avoid shin splints, a common occurence for people trying to get back into shape after long layoffs. All the best of luck, you can do it. -
These things sorta remind me of all the portable car camping gear I collected over the years when my boys were younger. I think the favorite was the portable cappuccino machine and portable drink blender (a must for omni style car camping). My camping days are over, however, I keep all the gear for hurricane stock preparedness. We just dodged another bullet out here in Hawaii so far with Hurricane Felicia now degrading down to a nasty tropical storm due in this Tuesday. Gas electric generator at the standby!

Good for you fcaap_dan, keep it up for a quality lifetime. I know this is about biking. But, I was running 5-6 days a week, for 20 years, and nothing to excess normally, usually 3 miles, some 10 Ks, I found I am addicted to endorphins (besides martinis). On my 60th B-day, 1 lateral herniated disc and 2 partial herniated ended that regime. (Age related, not from running but probably lifting too many heavy objects during my lifetime). I of course gained 15 lbs of fat and depressed from lack of exercise induced endorphins. Learning to reuse a few resulting partially paralyzed quad muscles took some time, 2 years later back running same 3 mile course switching off days with biking and some swimming (but only 20 minute durations). If you can, mix it up and don't excess on any one bike, run, weight-lift regime, that was my doctors advice. I agree with all who give you tips on good equipment, clothes, shoes, they all help put less stress on the body. But I would also do a lot of research on proper form and movement. I did that early on when running which allowed me to continue without any running injuries. -
Very innovative, especially like your imagination. Fav was the shot with the sardine can peel effect of the case back.

Just about to post the same, confirmed what swdivad said.

Question about which shoes and socks are appropriate?
omni replied to fool2's topic in Style and looks
Okay, finally piping in on this thread. I live in an American tropical isle atmosphere, on an outer island (Maui) where things are looser than in a cosmopolitan city like Honolulu, if you can call that cosmopolitan (Bankers wear "small print" aloha shirts "tucked in" to the office). Even though its perennial summer here, its also a mix of resort wear and country wear on the outer islands (I wear a lot of cowboy boots which isn't viewed strange since we have a lot of upcountry paniolo history). Here shorts when worn with shoes, which is not typical since flip-flops are more the norm, no socks or short socks peeking out of the shoe opening is acceptable; jeans/pants, worn with shoes without socks..........either is acceptable. That may be just an observation from a less than usual worldly view from my very isolated perspective. If you are in Bermuda, long socks and shoes with shorts are very acceptable. -
Absolutely Happy Birthday R. Maybe one day I'll make good on that threat to my sister of a Denver visit and look you up. It would be a pleasure.

My Toughbook, with built-in handle, is made to travel to a field site without a case to stash peripherals, the Mogo is a perfect fit for that application. Having it store inside the case away from rain, mud, dust made sense. The MoGo lacks a scroll wheel, on the presenter models the center bar works the same as your laptop touchpad for scrolling. I like my Mogo very much. Not at this price. They originally made it with a flash drive when it debuted but I haven't seen it offered that way yet. Ordered mine online from a Taiwan seller.
