  1. I wonder if the seconds @ 12 mod would be the addition of bridge plates or would there be a mod to the mainplate. It would be interesting to see how thick the end result would be.
  2. They use DW overlays, which may make the torque needed to "switch" the date over at midnight too weak for that function to perform properly. Or, of course it could be that there is not enough space in between the DW and dial, so the DW is scraping along the dial and affecting the "date jump" process.
  3. did you know that "prolex" means "duck" in Japanese? buy hey, if it looks like one and talks like one... j/k!
  4. You mught want to clarify your post by stating which MBWs you have. Then maybe we can identify the problem from there.
  5. So, when the 2824 outweighs the rest of its' components in that watch, might one consider that "swiss made" worthy?!?!? and..the reason why I discount these "fashion houses" watches is: It was taken from an authentic Versace watch!
  6. When you say it just "died", what do you mean? and, have you tried: Winding it with 20-30 turns of the crown? "shaking" it a couple of times for the rotor to complete some revolutions? If you have, is there anything blocking the movement of the balance wheel? If not, then the movement may be "gummed up". I have read (and seen) that buildup of debris can cause too much friction than warranted.
  7. Well, I hope they've come a long way from using plastic spacer rings in their cases.
  8. Marshall-Pierce (on the 300 block). They are ready to take off the tax if you are a cash buyer.
  9. Gen Breitling Evo Bezel
  10. Welcome, Dave! I guess it's not really a "welcome", since you've been a longtime member of the fora, but Welcome! anyway. You come in as the long-awaited "king of bling" that the fora enjoys.
  11. When the sun can't be seen where you are...
  12. I hope the dealer is not mistaken for the regular Riviera model... I do lots of research and due diligence and...I can't find a rep of this model.
  13. 6497 hand size: 1.15mm - minute 2.00mm - hour 7750 hand size: 1.20mm - minute 2.00mm - hour I have read that the 6497 minute hand may fit, although they require the use of a broacher. Link here: Broachers, Burnishers & Files
  14. I apologize in advance in going off topic, but... three points: 1) I recommend Tourneau only as a last resort if you go to buy a gen, and also if you absoultely HAVE to go AD. There are many other places to go to that won't make you feel pressured to make a decision and others that are apt to discount more than Tourneau usually would if you do have intentions to buy. I made the newbie mistake of buying my first gens from Tourneau. Let me tell you that it's like pulling teeth even to get them to sell it to you @ MSRP w/o tax. 2) They like "sizing" up their consumers (at least I felt that way when I went to the Time Machine on 57th) and I have never been to an AD besides this one where they warn me that it "is possibly out of your budget" before they take it out of the display case. This is not to say that about everyone, though. I went to another one on 5th Ave and one rep who was a Breitling enthusiast let me browse through and mount straps for an hour before I chose to buy. He must have been so good at what he does because my intention was to go in there and spend $130 on a calf strap. I ended up walking out of there with a credit card, a Chrono-matic, two croc straps and a spare Ti bracelet. 3) About OP's post: The posts like these always seem to perpretually appear. Does anyone read the "golden rules" of rep collecting anymore?
  15. It shows that the Tourneau rep is possibly uninformed about how "good" the reps are. Sure, they may look good on the outside, but the gen is leaps and bounds ahead of the rep in function and quality. Most people usually come in there and buy an accessory for the watch they're currently wearing, since they don't know the offhand measurements they need and etc. That's why they'll also change it for you as well! I guess this is another lesson learned not to wear your rep into the AD. Invest a couple bucks in the Lello DW and a gen bezel and maybe you can feel more confident. And I recommend other dealers along the Miracle Mile if you're going to get a gen strap again. They may be able to give you a slight discount.
  16. AFAIK, Lello only made DWs for 7750-based Breitlings. (Date @ 3)
  17. Filling up your watch box will be the least of your problems. When you walk in your house and sometimes you get the feeling you're in a jewelry store, then it's time to worry.
  18. Call me eccentric, but... I tend to keep a collection based on theme. Whether it's pilot's watches, diver's watches, dress watches or sports watches, I keep a few in between themes so that any one of them could "do the job" when the time comes. When I started wearing watches (in general), I thought owning two was enough (tool and dress). Now I have 24 watches, with 13 of them being gens, 11 reps. Some may call it much, but a watch is like an element of identity, like the way you decorate your home or the clothes you own. I've thought about trimming down my collection to keep the ones I seem to wear the most, but again, it's an element of identity. And letting them so is like letting a piece of yourself go as well.
  19. Welcome to the club! Enjoy the wonderful world of rep collecting. Always put your financial health first before spending. With that being said, it's easy to now find accessible the kinds of watches that you weren't able to obtain in the gen world. And if you think that buying a few reps may put a dent in your wallet, consider some members who have over 30+ reps, all of different types, and all them being regular wearers! And when you receive your first watch, be sure to post pictures. It'll be like a rite of passage!
  20. It could take an 2892 clone...but unfortunately the only datewheel that looks even remotely close to the one in the aquatimer is the A7750. If you look at any of the non-chronograph models (with the exception being rolex), the date font, if not on a white datewheel, is almost always a squared off number.
  21. The 2836 is nearly 0.5mm thicker than the 2824.
  22. Any mark next to your name means whatever the majority of ratings you receive. See my name? It has a "check mark" because most of my ratings come from "agree" ratings. I put SPAM, but it was an accident!
  23. jnagy, i apologize (i've been doing alot of that today!) for putting in "spam" as rating. it was an accident. i have killed (not hunted) cattle before. it was for meat and there was a phase in time where my family just did not trust the meats that were coming into our Giants (supermarkets in PA), so we went to a local farmer and here is how we got our meat: farmer took cow, caged it, cage had wheels. farmer brought it into shed, or place where you kill it (what do you call them?) farmer gave dad the rifle, he shot it in the head, cow agonized for fifteen-thirty seconds and then collapsed. farmer hooked the hooves and hung it. dad slit the throat to drain the blood. i don't know if this is humane or not, or if it is cruel, or not, but i'm sure the animal feels pain and i assume it to be harmful to the cow. and yes, you may call me an ar-se-hole now.
  24. This week is a big week; I have to kiss up to some senior partners, so this calls for some commanding pieces: Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday:
  25. Victoria, where do you find all these stock photos? Or is it you taking all these photos just for the occasion?
