  1. There is one: http://www.ioffer.com/i/I-W-C-Aquatimer-Au...k-dial-14888000 But it's obviously of lower quality.
  2. Calling any slaughter method good and humane is ironic. But I hope you don't hate us all Dani, for having our own point of views on the subject...this is a watch forum, isn't it? Can we still be friendly?
  3. M, you're always welcome to take part in any PP threads, even if only in spirit.
  4. I owned the white dial version and like with every rep watch I buy, I dissect it completely and clean the innards, repolish the case and finish the unfinished parts. I had a hard time trying to remove the bezel when the screws would just turn and not move! They definitely are held in just for decorative purposes. I attempted to remove the bezel using a homemade "Bezel knife" and that was a no go. I think that these bezels are pressure-fitted and either alot of might will have to get it out, or a Bergeon bezel remover might do the trick.
  5. For the 7750-based models with day/date, you just need ETA wheels. For the Ingy, you need the Lello DW, which will fit on your 2824-powered ingy. If you order ETA parts, if you want black wheels: you order "White on Black" white wheels: "Black on White". AFAIK, Watchpart in UK have them in stock in the black combo.
  6. Some food for thought... A similar thread was started in the Panerai forum...but now that it has been widely speculated that most major Swiss manufacturers will follow suit with price increases of around 10-15% starting in April. Of course, one of the biggest reasons is that what one US Dollar would buy A Swiss Franc and some change, the situation had been put in reverse. Thus making the US Dollar not so lucrative anymore. Add that to the rising costs in materials (one manufacturer reported that the cost of a ton of stainless steel used to price at 800 CHF last year; now it is at 1,300 CHF), manufacturing, and the increasing labor conditions in other countries have driven up the cost on non-related items as well. Now that the gen market will see these increases in price, how will this affect the secondhand gen market? Will collectors and dealers alike follow suit and price them accordingly? What will this mean to you, as a consumer? And if you are a collector, will you hoard watches at the current price only to "flip" them once the price hikes are in effect?
  7. The wekend! I've got an old-fashioned arm wrestling match coming up. But since I've got little to no forearm strength, maybe this might give me a little leverage:
  8. I guess you could say my second home is LGA. I fly so often with USAirways that the agents now know me by name. I'll admit I do see some nice pieces, but you only see your usual suspects ----- Rolex. Only once, I saw a JLC (I wonder if that was Dani). I used to live in NYC and one of the things I loved to do was sit in Union Square Park. Only once did I run into a 6263 wearer. Freddy333, is that you?
  9. How come I never see one of my own kind? You know the type...the "watch enthusiast" who also happens to be wearing a rep that our dealers has and no one else does. What gives? The fora has 20,000+ unique members. Where are you people hiding? And I am in airports, flying ten-fifteen days out of the month. So I am available to a much larger sort or people from various locales? How come I never see anyone wear a nice watch, let alone gen or rep? Am I alone here? Or are you all based in some super-secret civilisation?
  10. I decided to pull this off the winder and blew the dust off... Some pieces never get worn in this old home!
  11. What's up with all those "italian-designed" plastic/rubber Rolexes? Yeah, they're not Rolexes, but one can clearly see that they are trying to be. Remember Toy Watch? Same deal. And what about those celebrities endorsing them? I laugh at them.
  12. Most people have advised against using courier services because they are more scrutinised by customs, but I believe that is not so. I have shipped watches to the EU and just declared them as "Broken Watch Parts" with a real-sounding value, such as $35USD. Secondly, I ship regularly using UPS. The advantage they have is that they use an outside customs broker who may not physically be present to inspect the package, but they do see the declaration and in a package small enough, who wouldn't believe that you were sending broken watch parts? Oh, and lots of bubble-wrap won't hurt either.
  13. I recommend sending it back. You just received it, right? There should be no reason why the dealer won't honor an exchange. -OR- If you are apt to do it yourself, the IWC: You have to remove the dial from the movement, which required removing the hands (a hassle). Since most raised markers are placed on with feet on the marker, you could try removing the glue from the backside then re-aligning the marker. But, it requires a steady hand. And a fine attention to detail as not to mess up. the Radiomir: looks like the chrono pusher and the circular holder used to keep it in the case came loose. You could put it back together, though that also requires removing the movement out of the case. -OR- contact The Zigmeister (since you are planning to send to him anyway) and ask about your best option(s).
  14. Owners Rejoice! Where are your Gerald Genta-designed watches? It's like I've fallen in love again. I don't know why I can't stop wearing this watch. I keep on being mesmerized (maybe infatuated, if you will) about the fine qualities of the watch: - The way the two-case construction becomes flush when both parts come together - The finish of the brushed portions and the quality of the high-polished mirror finish - How the watch sits on you; there are no gaps within the bracelet (a flaw among too many reps) - How well-constructed the dial is: No crooked markers, superb printing, etc. - The attention paid to the details, fine lines, and contours of the watch: I've yet to find a sharp edge, rough finish, machine markings, and imperfect circles. - The lug screws are finished so much better and surprisingly, all fit flush within the bracelet links. When thinking about all this, I repeatedly ask myself how they could do all this for $450. We have our super-reps that came in the same price range, but they have the same kinds of disapointments that fall short. I still can't believe I paid $450 for it. It certainly feels like much more.
  15. So hypothetically, will it be cheaper for me to fly over to Italy, pay in Lire (or Euro) and then come back to the US?
  16. That's not something nice to assume about someone you don't even know. And I do understand; you don't seem to think that I do. And I tried to be civil about the whole thread, but you have to say that I don't have empathy for animals. I don't know what you want us to prove as to show empathy, but I do know that we live in the real world. Good thing I didn't disclose my ethnic origins. Then maybe you'll accuse me of being a savage too.
  17. Point duly noted, Dani. Then if we are talking about the issue of the way the Dogs get killed, do you think the way our livestock and poultry get killed are any better? Do you propose a better solution than electroshock, bullets, and wringing necks? I do apologize if I've missed what you were aiming for, Dani. But to be fair to the other posters in this thread, you were being vague in your original post and some of us do not speak or read Norwegian. jeg beklager jeg bydde ikke oppfatte du.
  18. You mean New York State.
  19. The most common date position in a watch is @ 3 O'clock. So you can have it positioned @ 11:55 if you so choose to. What you would need is a datewheel whose position is orientated @ 6:00. Jules Borel or Cousins UK may have these parts available. Most likely, you would need a newer movement holder, though the easiest option would be to shave the deficiency out of the existing movement holder. I think you also may need to deal with newer holder clamps because the final position would be lower than the slots used for the clamps.
  20. Although I would change the GMT hands to give it a mode "defined" prescence and change the datewheel to a black one, it is a great-looking piece! wear it in good health!
  21. Oh, Victoria, I hate how my own perception gets the best of me. My father once told me that it's best to remain happy and slightly ignorant than to be highly observant because you find yourself overanalytical to the point of unhappiness. Back on to topic, though, we all feel like we have to do something and most of us feel that when we contribute to a plausible-sounding organisation, we feel that we, too, have made a contribution for change. And you hit the nail on the head yourself, Victoria. Donating money doesn't exaclty mean that your money will do towards a cause. I believe it is even here in the US, only a precentage of monies received from patrons to a donation need to be set aside in order for it to be considered a "charitable" organisation. And while we're on that, don't you also find it peculiar that most charities disclose that "proceeds go to XXXX", conveniently omitting the "1%-100%"? As much as I like the cause that some legitimate organisations are doing, one must look into them carefully before contributing. And lastly, I don't want to call it a lost cause, but once again, Victoria, you've pointed it out---that it's senseless to doctrinate our Western Views onto Eastern Society...wouldn't that make it an imperialistic society?
  22. It's only natural to feel sentimental to the creatures that we domesticated and cared for like our own children. And you know, Victoria, I agree with your statements 98% of the time, but to pile up all the "Easterners" as a whole and to say that they are not sympathetic towards domesticated animals or endangered wildlife, etc. is an unfair generalisation. But the dogs being used for meat, were they ordinary housepets or were they wild animals?
  23. top half is gens, bottom half is reps.
  24. If you implanted the 7753, you would run into the following problems: 1) you would need genuine hands. these are nearly impossible to find. 2) genuine dial. seen some on eBay, so it's not that big of a deal. 3) you would lose the quick-set date function. and the way it is modified on the gen tricompax models is that the date change function is used by moving the hands back and forth between 8pm and 2am until you reach the desired date. Some have said that the tricompax navitimers are based on a 7750 w/o a quickset function. Others have said it's based on a 7753.
  25. That is a picture of an Old Navitimer. Note that ALL NEW breitling models (with the exception of some quartz-powered models) omit the "swiss made" on the dial.
