  1. Then the real issue then is how well the construction would be on the rep proII bracelet. One thing i noticed about rep bracelets is that the fit tolerances seem to be lacking and don't feel so "tight" between the links. The ProII bracelet hopefully will be built well and won't have gaps between the links. Hopefully, the point where the SEL meets the rest of the bracelet will be flush. Hopefully, the SEL will also fit flush against the case. Hopefully, the clasp won't sound "tinny". Hopefully, the bracelet screws will sit flush with the links as per the gen. Here's to wishful thinking.
  2. It's interesting how there is not a mod in these watches what would bring the date ring to the top and they had just decided to leave it sunk and install a cyclops in there. In the same note, Girard-Perregaux uses the same module in their chronographs but slightly modifies it by adding a bridge like the 2894 and moves the date ring to the top.
  3. Did you mean "repped" or did you seriosuly mean "raped"?
  4. I'm sure craigchek can attest to that!
  5. My name is actually Antony, but when I registered the nick, the "Y" key wasn't working and I registered in haste. I grew to like it so much that I ended up removing the "Y" from my legal name.
  6. Caseback comparison shot: Gen caseback:
  7. I hate to rain on Angus' parade, but if this SA were to be called "ultimate", then I must be blind. Seems like he repped the 2006-2007 version, with the larger wings and slightly thicker steel numerals. I'll give it to him that the maker did do a good job on manufacturig the watch, but when you see this: And I have a macro shot of the gen dial here: You ca see that the subdial rings are too thick and logo is slightly off on the rep. I assume it's a pre-production version, but if this is the final version, it looks like the dial was made in haste.
  8. For the record, just the base movement itself cannot be had for less than $1500 (AP Cal. 2226 ; JLC 889/2). I've already tried VERY hard to source one but have only found those were NOT in running condition. Believe it or not, the same DD module was also used in vintage Tag Heuer quartz chronographs, so what I can deduce is that it just extends power running on the central seconds on the base movement into a dual transfer system that supplies power to the main watch and chronograph operation, a la 7750.
  9. My WIS-analness came again when I was sizing the bracelet on the ROO. Though the option of a strap seems enticiing (my AD has straps and clasps in stock), the bracelet just seems to look better and what I prefer. Just a couple things, though and a little query for you: 1) I noticed that there is a slight gap between the links on my bracelet. Are there on yours? 2 The clasp lock mechanism needs to be bent a little to hug my wrist. 3) And lastly, I don't know if on the gen this happens as well, but if I size the bracelet correctly and wear the watch, the buckle seems to pull back a little and sit in this position, like so: See the gap between the link and clasp? But, if I add an extra link, it closes like so: But it wears loose. But because I am not too sure that the gen does this as well, does anyone have any ideas as to whether or not the gen does the same thing, or does the clasp literally "lock" into place?
  10. I think the people are skeptical, but lighting may affect the subdial colors reproduced by the camera. I say the tell is the significantly thicker datefont and its' position. And the HBB is...no question a fakery. Who is this tomfooler?
  11. hxxp://forums.txxxzxxxe.com/index.php?t=usrinfo&id=65880&rid=50950 replace the X's.
  12. I feel like I'm in some type of paradox where perfect can be had at only a fraction of the price...I mean, i am still in the thinking that: "Oh my god! I can't believe they've made a $3500 item available for only 10% of cost! I mean, what, pray tell, is wrong with the rep? It can't be that PERFECT! If it looks good for only $298, I wonder if the quality is comparable inside the watch (movement excluded)." How many of you share my thoughts?
  13. Newer model (I think starting with the "F" series) Rubberclads with the in-house movement (3126) have a black date window surround. I am speculating that the AR on the datewindow also started with the G-series ROOs.
  14. You know what? I haven't worn these deskclocks in a while...and shall be worn day and night friday!
  15. With the diameter being 39mm, I don't see why they couldn't just leave the 2892 in there and not have to use a quartz in it. But then again, when were the women ever interested in the mechanics of their watches anyways? (I believe this model is for them).
  16. I remember when it used to cost $40 to fill up the tank of an SUV. Not less than ten years later I am paying nearly $65 to fill up the tank of my SEDAN! Now when most of us thought that our lives have gotten better, there is always something that pulls us back into reality and makes us see that the dream is harder and harder to obtain.
  17. I guess the experts will be up shortly to nitpick...but I thought there was only ONE version of the Barrichello available? Gen:
  18. I believe another seller on RWI has posted up these pics about a couple weeks ago asking for user's opinions on the upcoming rep. Here is the gen:
  19. But what I don't know is why they claim it to be truly 1:1 when the movement is wrong. The gen uses the "HUB21" which is essentially a ETA 2892.
  20. Well, the only "27 jewel" ETA movement I know of is the: ETA 7753, which is a chronograph movement, which this is NOT. Anyone who advertises this is 9/10 times a scam. WM9 I can't speak for, but what I can say is to tread carefully.
  21. We are getting somewhat closer. We have a rep of the Big Pilot, after all. Even though it has the wrong kind of movement, it is still a step closer.
  22. hmm...do those outlines of the numerals look a little grey to you?
  23. Speaking of watch banter, banter is one of the reasons why I stopped shopping in Tourneau (except for the one on Madison and 52nd). No, it's not because they talk, it's because they don't talk watches enough and like I have said before, if you're not going to spend, you might as well not have walked in. That's the attitude (at least what I get from them) I sense there. Then again, they must be commissioned salespeople. So they don't want to waste their time with a "potential" buyer when the next person walking in could be a "definite" buyer. There are two ADs I always recommend to friends and others who I encounter when we talk watches: Wempe and Kenjo. Though most of us might know Wempe, many won't know Kenjo unless if you live in the City. Both ADs have a sort of "no pressure" approach and will spend time with you talking watches. Some may even show pieces they hold for other clients. I can't explain it in simple terms, but when I walk into those two places, I feel like I am walking into a social club, not a store. And oh yeah, though Kenjo might not be an AD for some manufacturers, they can get the pieces for you and still beat AD prices by a significant margin.
  24. A little thing I noticed is that the datewheel print seems to be a bit "blotchy". I don't know if this is due to the magnification of the cyclops or just macro photography, but would you change the datewheel if you had the chance? Again, it just might be me, but does anyone think that the datewheel print seems to make the ROO feel a little 'cheap'? example here:
  25. Freddy, I'm just curious...are you reading a book by Alan Flusser?
