  1. I don't see my "uptightness", do you? Please enlighten me! I just expressed my opinion, as did you.
  2. This is what you said: Nowhere did you ask us to read between the lines of your "musing" and determine what you were actually talking about was going into a watch shop and trying on the watch. Perhaps if you were more clear in your OP, then our response would not have been such. And while we're on the subject of salespersons and watches in N. America, the attitude is no different.
  3. Is the top dial's "1000" more of a bright blue rather than a "blackish-blue"? If so, then I would advise using the top dial because of the recessed subdials, a la the gen. But if you can paint the metal hour rings black, then IMO it would be more faithful to the gen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the dial is matte whereas the dial ring is glossy on the gen.
  4. Just blowing the dust off some old ones...
  5. I think Tak was saying that it's unfair to make a generalization that people in those countries judge one by the watch he/she wears.
  6. I consider owning the rep as a good "test drive" before we put down the full $13-$20K on the gen. I can only assume that AP doesn't let you 'rent' their watches just to try them on for a couple days. I mean, after trying on this rep, would one consider buying the gen?
  7. UncleJay, I really wished to have to hope to meet you had I known about the Tri-State GTG. Though I'm no longer living in Manhattan, I am still considered part of the "Tri-State" (well, according those dealerships in Englewood). I'm sure you and the others who have attended would have been a lively bunch to be around. And according to the now ancient GTG you went to on TZ, you would have been entertaining. I keep on laughing to myself when I see the caption of that GTG reading, "My offshore is THAT big!"
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Caliber used in the ROOs (2226/2840), its' base movement is based on a JLC 889? Then that makes it slightly larger in diameter than the ETA 7750. Though, obviously both have different date mechanisms. Now that Richard has pointed out the date position, it will be a glaring fault with me.
  9. Is there a limit as to how much we can spend in order to be eligible for 25% cashback? I mean, hypothetically, if I spend $10K on eBay, would I really qualify for nearly $2.5K in cashback?
  10. with all its' flaws, the new APROO is still an improvement over the reps of yore. What I do want to see if there will be an MBK version of this. And while I'm wishful thinking, I would hope that they could rhodium-plate the bezel screws with white gold. Something to give the "slightly goldish" shine of the gen.
  11. This one hasn't seen the light in a while...
  12. Call me anal, but I already foresee the first flaw in the @12 ROO being that seconds subdial will be spaced too high. Or is this issue also fixed?
  13. Hamiltons largely have undecorated rotors/movements and watches that do have a crystal display back usually leave ALOT to be desired... Take it from me, I own two gen Hamiltons. Though both are well worth the money, if you're going to leave me an ugly looking movement, might as well keep the case covered.
  14. Corgi, you've done it again. You just sold me on another PP. Thanks for the review on such a watch; as the quality of MBK-produced pieces is not known to most. I cannot even fathom that they've gotten the watch right!
  15. <earlier comments deleted> Impressive mod! Your quasi-024 looks great!
  16. I think that is a tough call as some people are completely oblivious to the costs involved in committing to such a process. Myself included. I mean, would you acquire the pieces first, or organize some type of "group buy"? Or will they be done on an "on call" basis? Let's say you get a SS base watch (maybe the PAM 002) and turn it to the PAM 009. If you also did the modding service to it and added PVD, my guess is that I'll pay ($ price of all mods) + a $150 premium for your service.
  17. The 60/72/74 is every bit special as the daylights are; even more so that they used Zenith movements up until LVMH wouldn't supply them with movements anymore. It's just too bad it doesn't get the kind of "press" that it deserves because it's a bit small. But even being that it's a proprietary movement that is slightly difficult to service, it is a technological marvel compared to the ETA 7753 (only that the El-P doesn't have hack seconds, though).
  18. Unless they have also faked the Authenticity Guarantee, the Numbers on the watch match those on the certificate of the MMXL. So that's authentic, IMO. And the Hublot SuperB is also Authentic.
  19. I used to suffer from the same conditions....call it the impulsiveness of wanting to rid of the collection, to try to jump on the next thing I want to do; or even the eccentricity of myself for the "quest". I have made the same mistake once before of selling pieces that I once loved in my collection just to buy the "next big thing", only to be slightly misled or disappointed when the actual product is in my hands. How I have learned to think things over a cool glass of (insert alcoholic drink here) to make my decisions before..."jumping the bandwagon" too early.
  20. To continue from last week and going on to this week:
  21. I have been loyal to Ferragamos ever since my father bought me my first pair ten years ago for my graduation. I tend to favor the loafers with the metallic embellishments on the shoe, as they are easy to put on and comfortable to wear. I may have rotated ten pairs or so in the last five years and with regular maintenance they look as good as they have when they left the store. Like a watchmaker, a cobbler is someone you would want to grow a relationship with. Oh, and don't forget that with a nice pair of shoes always accompanies a nice suit. Recently, I have entered "Canali" territory.
  22. Is it really "glaringly wrong" or just "slightly wrong"? I have seen maybe five different iterations of this model (from the no seconds/seconds/gold markers/"O SWISS O"/curvature) and there maight have been at least three different datewheels used for this model (of course all have changed as the times did, though). So the MBK is not so bad. The CN PPNJ is bad though. That font "screams" ETA!
  23. Strap = 22mm. I believe that by default, it comes on a Croc strap with tang buckle. However, that is just one of many configurations that you can buy the watch from (Bracelet/Strap/Deployant).
  24. Glad to see I'm not the only one "green" with envy. It must be extraordinary to be the select "one" of a few they pick to attend these events. Looks like I'll have to stop buying my gens on 47th [street] now, eh?
  25. well... ceramic is ceramic, and pvd is just coated steel. some may say that both look identical, but i believe that ceramic has more of a "refined" look and feel to it; especially the polished bezels vs. the PVD versions. Also, once you scratch up that pvd bezel (someone clarify of the coating process has differed), you ar escratching off the pvd coating. so all you see is the SS.
