Hey all, Was bored and finally got around to putting these photos together. Ive seen a few posts lately about how to build a 1016 so here is how I built one for the Wife. Got my inspiration from @mir36 thread last November, Thanks! I used a JMB v2 case, T21 crystal, Helenarou Dial, Raffles time merc vintage hands, ETA 2824, Hirsch teal strap (now Jubilee). Overall the Helenarou dial is pretty nice. I had built it originally with a Whoopy dial which was awesome but as the goal was for a Tiffany and Co dial I reached out to her and am pretty happy with the results. Just need to get a re-lume as the dial doesn't match the hands, its a little too green. The 2824 I bought was in pretty rough shape so I tackled that first. First all the pieces, And then piece by piece, And last but not least all together!

Couple quick one stop shops that come to mind if you want to build your own watch is helenarou and raffles time. Both sell cases. Movements, hands, dials, and bands. Would be a good resource for an easy first foray into building your own watch. Or you can look on eBay there are quite a few sellers selling lots of old mechanical watches. Most are older citizens and such with miyota movements. You could try buying one of these and seeing of you can get them fixed up and running again to start. Keep in mind its not only QC your paying BK to do but it is also Mods. He is physically altering the watch to make it better than just a standard QC the TD's do where they try to get you a decent looking on. Also, being US based not only means you don't have to worry about custom's seizure but it also means, 1) The wait time is generally drastically reduces as he does carry a stock of some items. I think the most ive waited is a couple weeks. 2) You get a real tracking number that actually works and updates as it should because its actually a USPS package and not a trans-graft from china shipping to us I personally have not had an issue with the two pieces I've bought from him but I have read others who BK offered support and repairs to as he does stand behind his sales. If BK carries it I would always recommend him over a TD. hope that helps!

I have polished scratched hands and the coating slowly erodes to the base gold color the more you go. If the scratches are minimal sometimes you can remove them mostly with a nice result but often the hands will be less silver at the send with some of the base metal now exposed. As no rep has truly perfected the text color yet alone the gen green insert color I would bet that the new JF insert may be very nice but would still be off when compared to the gen insert. That would as always be a personal decision. I am happy with the noob v7 dssd insert and don't feel like dropping big dollars for the gen, but if it were in the 100-200 range like the 16610 inserts are then yes I would. Hope that makes sense. Don't have an answer for 1, 2. It seems TC is on hiatus for now. Not a clear message anywhere when he will be back. 3. Some sites differ due to the movement. You basically have 3 choices for noob. Asian (a2824/a2836 depends on sub vs dssd). Asian SA3135 ( not the same and not as desirable as the Yuki, only the new JF's or a custom build will come with the yuki) or some sites offer true Swiss ETA 2824/2836. The true Swiss movements drive the price up. 4. With noob I would opt for the swiss 2824/2836, unless you have a yuki or gen 3135 you are planning to swap out the sa3135 for. Sorry yes I forgot to finish my thought on Ref 250, I found that the intermediate wheels are different from yuki to gen. The yuki ones have a shoulder on one of them that fits up into the plate (ref 268) pictured below whereas the gen ones are captured by the plate. If you want gen intermediate wheels you should change out the whole plate mechanism cover. Also the intermediate date wheel and date finger have different sized pivots as @Jigelow mentioned above. Getting into the keyless works the yoke (ref 266) may be needed as well if you want Gen Ref 250's due to the difference in the wheels as described above. The keyless Yoke ref 240 fits just fine but then the jumper for setting lever ref 230 has an extra bulge along one side that the yuki plate does not have space for (at least on mine) so this is not useable. Also on my plate I found that all these fit snugly on the post on the plate and are not easy to remove when installed. The Setting lever Ref 220 fits just fine as well as the spring for setting lever Ref 225.

I'll share what I have found. I am in the process of combining a yuki and a 3135 to try and get 1 working 3135. See responses below. - ref 410 (escape wheel); the yuki seems to fit the gen plate and bridge. Haven't tested for working yet but it looks promising - ref. 130 (winding bridge). Yes and you can use the wheel and core from either yuki or gen in this plate both fit and function - ref. 140 (automatic works bridge) yes and you can use either tiki or gen parts in this both fit. - ref. 201 (winding stem) yes original stem fits and works - ref. 250 (setting wheel) I don't think these fit with the yuki cover plate/yuki yoke. See my next post below for more in depth discussion - ref. 260 (minute wheel) yes this fits - ref. 280 (hour wheel) yes this fits - ref. 305 (ratchet wheel) yes this fits - ref. 307 (barrel arbor) yes this or the whole barrel assembly (ref's 310, 307, 311) is interchangeable from gen to yuki - ref. 335 (min and cannon pinion) I had some issues with fitment with the bridge that holds in the min pinion you will have to get the gen min pinion bridge (ref 125) I believe it is due to different shoulder heights on min pinion and different jewel bushing size in the gen bridge vs yuki. Also found that the canon pinion gen doesn't fit on the yuki min pinion. Too loose fitment at least on mine. - ref. 360 (seconds wheel) yes this fits - ref. 451 (bridle for stud support) This should be ok but I didn't try. No real benefit as it looks exactly the same as yuki and the actual job is just to hold the spring stud which is definitely different between yuki and gen. I did not try but I do not believe the balance bridge of the gen can be adapted to use with the yuki balance and stud support. I think this would be too much trouble than it is worth to try. - ref. 540 (Reversing wheel) yes this fits. You will need two - ref. 5100 (case clamp screw) yes this fits. Honestly there really is no need or visible difference to go fully gen. Pick up any of the aftermarket 3135-5100's on ebay and they work just fine.
