  1. Exactly like the Doc says...but in other cases, they are people's vintage rep works and they are trying to capture the look of some of the old gens that were considered workhouse tool watches before they became valued at $100K+ on the rare vintage market. It goes along with sticking your vintage case in a tupperware tube with rocks and throwing it in the dryer to get that banged up look.
  2. Welcome aboard. What country are you from? You found the best, coolest and most knowledgeable WATCH forum around. Some of the posters here are the best around...bar none! Check out my Noob Guide pinned in the Intros section to get yourself up and running fast.
  3. Ok...everybody gets a Noob Question allowance right? I've expired mine long ago...so I'm going to call this a plea for "confirmation" instead. I've been getting a few "clarification" questions from folks about movements to which I know little about, and wanted to confirm if my understanding is correct: 7750a/b = the old 21k slow beat 7750 that is seen as a bit unreliable 7750a/b still available and listed as the slow beat movement (preferred for modding due to gen ETA sized hand compatibility ) 7750b1 = New Asian 7750 = 28.8k A7750...our The Zigmeister approved workhorse (once serviced) Does this sound right or is there another version (aside from the gen and subdial layout variants)??
  4. What country? How was it shipped? Odds are good you'll be fine...just be patient and give it at least 2 weeks. You'll probably need much less...but it's a good margin.
  5. I would never be one to disagree with you and your experience...that's for sure, but I think they're talking about RELATIVE noise. True, my Rollies are silent...my A21J's are loud...some of my A7750s are LOUD...but, my ETAs are waaay more quiet, and my Ziggified A7750s are as well.
  6. Watch lovers? I thought this was for time wasters. Welcome aboard...you came to the right spot. Read my Noob Guide pinned to the Intros section to get up and running without spending 3 months searching blindly.
  7. Hah hah hah...that's really funny. Just kidding. No offense...but that's what we ALL want out of ALL of our reps. First rule of thumb, unless you start replacing rep parts with gen parts at great expense and time, ALL reps can be spotted as "fake" by the RIGHT Watch Idiot Savant who knows their stuff. The odds of bumping into somebody like this is rare...as they are probably spending all their time reading this forum or Paneristi. Regardless, that's why we generally so: Don't take your rep into an Authorized Dealer Don't try and lie that your rep is a gen...you'll only get embarassed sooner or later If you don't know what a cannon pinion is...it's definitely something you CANNOT fix. It is the post int he centre of the dial that holds the hour and minute hands. It shouldn't be recessed like that BELOW the minute hand. It should be a little higher than the minute hand producing a "bump" at the top. Don't attempt to fix this...you'll only wreck your watch. You need a watchsmith who knows rep movements, and how to source the right parts. The problem is, this issue exists with almost all the PAM reps out of the box. So, you have to figure out if this kind of issue (amongst others) that you need to fix or it will drive you crazy...or you can still enjoy the watch because it's pretty close. I trust you have read my Noob Guide as you have found a decent dealer to buy from so far. Good luck!
  8. He usually takes about 24-36 hrs to respond. The other option is to send him a PM through here. Other collectors should be able to source it as well.
  9. Oooooh you people are so harsh! Why does it have to be a she? Maybe Stilty is just a small man...a very very small man. That dial is great! Did you have to get a custom movement holder for it? How does someone go about getting something like that? And, what bracelet is appropriate for this? I'm assuming a president style would be most appropriate.
  10. Beautiful watches...no go out and get the Blacksteel version to complete the set.
  11. ...correct if referring to the collectors on this board. Who knows what else is out there. The internet is scary.
  12. Soon soon grasshopper...you will be able to leave the mountain. Check out my Noob Guide pinned at the top of the Introductions section. It will help you get off the ground running. Welcome aboard...read, search, learn, search more, have fun...and share your experience back with the community.
  13. Wait until you start buying and get the goodies in your dirty little hands...Betty Ford's around the corner...
  14. What the Mod says is the word of Gospel. It's all about fun...don't take it too seriously waiting for orders, fretting about details or you'll give yourself a heart attack. Read my Noob Guide and you'll be able to hit the ground running:
  15. Hang in there...it's hard when credit succombs...but going that route is a downward spiral to being raped by repo-men. Instead...pass your time being immersed in details, facts and everything else about the watches...so when the time does come...you'll be able to hit the ground running!
  16. Don't get me wrong...I love jets...but Topgun is the moniker popularized in general culter by the film industry. I would prefer it to have the proper SFTI branding...but that just isn't as sexy now is it?
  17. Wow. If you can find a better answer on a gen forum...odds are good it's from a member here. Way to go Rolex001. Now if you know nothing like me, you'll stick on your spare Casio plastic strap and call it a day being happy in the bliss of ignorance.
  18. To be honest, I don't have an issue with the subdial spacing being off if the watch still looks good. In the case of Speedmasters, to be honest, I like the wider subdial spacing...and it's harder to see as being off given that there are Speedmasters with the "reduced" case (a different movement too if I remember but I might be wrong without looking it up to confirm) with a "wider" subdial spacing look in the smaller size that looks similar in proportion to the full size Speedy rep. In the case of the Discovery though, the spacing issues make the watch dial look all squished.
  19. Surely Freddy333's and Ubi's Frankenton's are up there...as well as The Zigmeister's Cortebert enhanced Pams! I'll search for the proper pictures later!!
  20. Welcome aboard...and enjoy the fun. That's what it's all about...that and sharing what you learn. Make sure to check out my Noob Guide pinned at the top of the Introductions section. It will surely generate more questions...but after reading through it, you'll be armed with enough knowledge to ask a question who's answer will be of greatest use to you.
