Hi, Unfortunately, that sub is case #D320840, which is the same as his other "non-Noob" or non-Begin subs. This means, the rehaut is the conical one. The one you want has case serial F520117...that comes out of the same factory as the TTK Noob. I wrote a post explaining some of the differences: Toad's Sub Post

New IWC SS with double AR coating coming soon?
Toadtorrent replied to gunnars's topic in The IWC Area
Yup...DJs and DDs are much more of an understated rep compared with an all gold Navitimer or Bentley...and in all gold, they pack much more >umph<... But we digress...this thread is about the IWCs...hah hah... -
New IWC SS with double AR coating coming soon?
Toadtorrent replied to gunnars's topic in The IWC Area
Double AR means anti-reflective coating on boath sides of the crystal. Should you care? Depends on your priorities. Most would agree that the double AR makes the most difference if the dial you choose is a dark colour. On a white-faced dial, the double AR is less noticeable. If you are wondering if it's a gimmick or not...pop into an Authorized Dealer (AD) and take a look at the real watches. You will see that on watches with double AR (IWC, Breitling, etc...not Rolex), the crystal can seem to disappear as there is not reflection at all for the most part (except at certain angles where you will get varying shades of subtle blue reflection). It's a pretty distinguishing feature. For most of the "public", if they don't see a gen and a rep side by side (the gen with double AR and the rep without), they will not notice the difference...just like they will not notice the difference on a slow beat vs high beat movement, or quartz vs. mechanical movement for all that matters. BUT...for the WIS public (pretty much most of the horo-geeks on these forums), they can use lack of double AR to spot a rep on someone's wrist on the far side of a football stadium. You have to decide where your priorities are. Generally, on a popular watch there will likely be an Asian version with mineral crystal and no AR, and an ETA version with double AR saphire. The price premium for the latter can be up to double (or more in the case of genuine Swiss ETA 7750 movements). Do you want "close enough" to genuine appearance, or do you need "as close as possible"? Hey...and don't knock the Rollie DJ...it's a classic to which I have a gen of. -
Excellent...and from one Noob to another...it is quite something to get that first watch in your hands. I too found the value of the info on this board and did the VIP thing early on. I'm now debating on the next rep...

Thanks for the review...and good job!!

Sigh...am I the only one getting mad at The Zigmeister these days? After seeing all this awesome work, I can't look at junkier out-of-the-box options anymore...I NEED The Zigmeister to mod all my watches...I think he can even make my Gens look more like Gens!!!
-
Wow...I was just about to buy one until I saw you need a 32" wrist for it to look good. RATS!!

AAAAAAH...Trojan Horse Strategy...good point...
-
Heh...I did that for you.

Very nice pix!!

It's not a watch...it's an owl! If it moved, it would be in ajoesmith's avatar.

Same with me. If you have comparison shots between versions of gens, that might illustrate the point more.

thinking of buying a full gold blue face sub .
Toadtorrent replied to 2005SUBMARINER's topic in The Rolex Area
BUT...if it matches the gold and studded teeth, and the diamond studded sunglasses...you can't go wrong. -
Here you go: Pic below is an 18k gold crown and stem next to the case tube. The tube gets screwed into the case to give the crown something to screw down on to create the seal. Triplock Crown is described below (text taken from Poor Mans Watch Forum) "The Rolex Triplock crown is probably the best crown system used in any watch and even maintains a degree of water resistance when unscrewed as tested by British Royal Navy Divers. Firstly an O-ring seals the space between the crown and the crown stalk, then the screw threads act as the second line of defense. The upper internal portion of the crown seals the top of the threaded cylinder when screwed down. Furthermore, around the stalk, inside the threaded cylinder is another gasket that acts as the final line of defense. There is probably not a crown system that can seal a watch case shut as effectively as Rolex

Lady V...how can you not support the 111? It's UNIX SySAdmin...and he wears mostly black. To me, if you were a Windows SysAdmin...I would go Tag or UPO...but UNIX...I say 111. I'm not really a PAM guy (warming to the 111h though)...but nothing screams "Don't mess with me or I'll strike your name from the payroll list" like black duds and a fat PAM.

OK...I'm slow...just noticed the Sub on the fur...funny!!

How do I add a decent size photo ?
Toadtorrent replied to King Charles's topic in Photo Tips, Tricks, & Tutorials...
Hi and welcome. I just learned how to do this the other day and am using Photobucket I think. I went a little hog-wild with it on my first attempt with pictures as you can see here: First Post With Many Pics That's a nice 3717 with the white on black date wheels. Who did you get this from? -
This does make quite a difference to the watch. I'm thinking the 3717 might be my next piece. Nice side-by-side comparison...that really sells it!
-
That's an awesome piece. I would love to start something like this, but I'm not ready to make such a committment to a rep yet. I really like the look of that DRSD. I wish I could do the easy route, and just get a gen like Nanuq. HAH HAH.
-
Nice piece. I'm thinking of getting this one. Maybe you should make a post of what you did for the mod. People in the forums have been very informative and supportive even to a Noob like me. I hope your experience remains similar.
-
Very interesting post. Thanks!

Stephane, Thanks for your kind words. It's folks like you who contribute so much to the forums that acted as inspiration for me wanting to put something back. I'm not a huge collector of watches like Lady V or yourself, but I'm a total information-[censored]. Thanks for letting me borrow your pics and for your great write-up which everyone can find CLICKING HERE.
