I have always liked and trusted Andrew (and Josh) and they have always done well by me. But as regards Noob pieces (AP's, PAM's, etc.) these guys clearly have less access to priduct (or maybe in a fight with them?). I suspect (and it is only a suspicion) that an Angus or Toro has more latitude with the Noob factories. Clearly, Angus does as he (unlike Andrew or Josh) is actually on the ground in China and has a much more direct dialogue. And since all the power is now with the factories as regards to who gets what and who has return priviledges I would opt for one of the Noob dealers..

I wasn't orginally in love with this watch. It is growing on me. It would be great to see an actual Bronze version but I am not holding my breath. I will hang tough to see if they make a bronze version.

I understand the argument that "if something violates the constitution change the constitution or do nothing about it" approach. But that is not the way life works in the U.S. There is now technology which no one could plan for when it was written. The constitution did not envision a five pound readily portable maching gun (I have no idea what I am taking about on the gun front). And under that intrepretation there isn't anything to preclude you from running around with a stinger surface to air missile launcher . Under your interpretation I should be able to keep one of those freely in my house and we would deal with the consequences only after someone "violates" the law and shoots down an aircraft with you or I in it. The best analogy is the violation of personal property under the constitution. Under the constitution one would have to physically enter my property to violate my privacy rights and as for warrants the only one needed to persecute me was when the police wanted to physically enter my house. As the technology advanced the laws changed. First we invented phones systems which allowed for wiretapping off-premise and then we concocted appropriate laws requiring warrants, etc. Then when we could be monitored as to everything we do via the internet, public and privately placed cameras, the use of heat sensing equipment to hunt down marijuana growers, etc. the laws have had to be be continually revised updated and revised to protect us from the government. The problem, with the constitution is that is is not a living breathing document as our forefathers may or may not have envisioned. It is an old piece pf paper subject to constant interpretation. And this is no different.

Not to change the topic but I am curious. Has anyone changed their views on guns and their role in society over the course of their lifetime?

Trivia question - how much was the Airking in '66? $500 or so? I can't remember how much but I remember coming upon the original receipt for a Red Sub dating to 1977 or 78 and it was something like $1,000 or less.

So true, A gen vintage has so much more heritage than a comtemporary gen or a historical rep.

I come out where a number of other folks have. To the extent that people have gotten ruder it is symptomatic of both the times and the growth in the rep industry. If people are in society at large ruder, more abrupt and seeking instant gratification in a "me, me" environment which I think most of us would generally agree, the industry itself has also become much more of a hit and run situation. Great out of the box reps are readily available and in large volume. You just need to know where and what to buy. And the ubiquitousness of the internet makes all these facts evermore evident. Go search on your favorite watch and half the time what comes first are the reps rather than the gens. And now all the potential rep buyer has to do is show up, ask a few questions, get what he wants and move on. And it really doesn't take much more than that. There will always be too many jerks in society and with the world moving ever closer to a virtual world where no one has to take responsibility for their own actions this will only get worse not better. The challenge will always be to attract and keep those fewer folks who have a broader love of horology and at some level are looking for some comraderie.

I don't have skin in this game but both folks that came to me have now been repaid. Not that I want an onslaught of requests for help but I am curious as to how many people are still out money or goods.

Rolex is a different animal but I still subscribe to the approach of limiting cost as much as possible without a gen dial. I am doing a long term build with a DW case set and bracelet for $300 or so (yes, I know it needs mods and will never be as good), a Phong Dial at a good price from another member and a standard V72 but I expect the all-in to be closer to $1000-$1200 and I take it for what it is - a rep (not a Franken).

The obvious answers for PVD are 04 and 09's for handwinds and 28 Power Reserve for automatic. They are all 44m versus the 389 which is 47mm. You do know the 389 looks nothing like what you posted from Puretime's site. The 389 is not PVD.

I would try to buy used in my area if possible. That way you can pick it up. You can look on TImeZone, Watchnet, Chrono24, potentially the AP gen forums from a notable participant and even Ebay or Craigslist provided you pick it up (or someone you trust does). Otherwise there are reputable sellers of used pieces on the internet who will implicitly guarantee genuine in case you find there is something wrong. But for this price I would prefer to pick-up myself.

Isn't that the standard Cashmere strap? Every Fiddy when originally sold came with that strap and a choice of either black or burgundy. I don't have a pic but I actually think the burgundy is a nice change of pace.

Which raises the interesting question - which is more dangerous a Stafforshire Terrier or a gun.

Well, I received a Red Sub at high school graduation and didn't have any idea of the significance until it was long gone. You just have to be old enough.

Now go back and look at the Harvard Study. What you will find is that there is no correlation between no. of guns and violent crime rate. In fact there is more likely inverse correlation. And this is coming from a person with no axe to grind. I don't own a gun.
