There were a half a dozen or so frankens built by MBW with gen dials and hands and appropriate 289x base movement with chrono module. At the time they sold for $3700. There is nothing in between the standard issue seconds at 12 rep and that though. Quick pics:
I wouldn't go that route. It will be pure luck if a strap for a tang buckle fits a deployant. And you don't want to cut a strap as it ruins the integrity of the strap as they are usually sealed on the sides. And if you have to cut on the inside of stitching all bets are off. There are plenty of deployant straps available from numerous suppliers.
I don't know if it will work but as long as the net result on my end is that I have a functional bracelet and endlinks that work fine with my straps the answer is sure. It will be a couple of weeks until I get the watch back though to try all this though.
It sounds like I can use the end links from an original MBW bracelet to fit the gen strap nicely. Yahoo! In truth I was cannibalizing a first gen MBW seconds at nine to finish up the MBW gen dial franken so I will just use those for the strap and keep the bracelet intact. So I guess I will have a spare set of Oracle endlinks.
Now I am going to pile in. If I have an Oracle conversion kit the end links will work on the MBW seconds at 9. That much I got. So here are the trick questions. Will the oracle conversion kit work with a a gen AP strap (Themes nubuck to be specific)? If I can get spare end links from another original MBW will that work better than the Oracle end links?
It is all very frustrating as my watch is sitting elsewhere having a movement ring made for a new movement while the straps and conversion kit are sitting with me.
No one cares about your watches. I regularly travel with 3 watches. I wear one and carry two in a nice leather watch carrier. I carry it in my carry-on luggage. I have had that luggage checked 4 times in the last 2 years - twice in the U.S. and twice abroad. No one ever cares. At least one of the US Customs inspectors was nice enough to pay me a nice compliment on the watches. So no worries.
Not that it has anything to do with this thread but I had heard so many bad things about the deployant that I couldn't resist walking into the AP boutique which happens to be around the corner and asking how much a gen deployant costs. Needless to say, it is more than the watch - $600+.
If this is the case, congrats to VDB. Can't wait to see the results. And yes this thread has served it s purpose. Now I just have to figure out how I can afford to "twist" VDB's arm to get the watch which started this thread. That is a work of art.
You mean like this :
And do the pushers look like this?
Yes, MBW made these. But there were only 6 and I know where at least 3 are. And by the way, if you do have 2 or 3 of these you could have bought the gen.
I always intend to where a gen to a first meeting and then forget. More importantly, I think long and hard about who I am meeting with and make sure I am not wearing a $20k watch (rep of course ) to meet someone who is wearin a Timex and actually knows what you are wearing is more than he can ever afford. Then again I am not married to Jane Hathaway claiming I am best friends with the Pope. But I also definitely subscribe to Robbie's theory that if it is not good enough for you not to worry than I don't want to own it. And I have to say RWG and all the wonderful reviews done by our membership have saved me thousands.
This weekend's theme is vintage. Been rotating a cortebert-based Watchmaster 3646, Ziggy redo of the Davidsen deco-bezel and a Ubi 45mm vintage.Much thanks to Ziggy, Ubi and Kenzo.
I think it just ebbs and flows. I would find it difficult to believe that luxury goods makers will spend more money on lawyers when profitability is falling. I am hearing that we may well see actual price reductions on some manufacturers' list prices. I do believe that investigation is often instigated upon complaints received by the company so keep your friends close and your enemies closer. .
No I didn't bid on it as I had read a couple of days ago that one of our members was willing to go to a price I would not so why bid a friend up. The non-alarm Angelus will remain a dream for a long time. I next need to find a Rolex movement for the 3646 case and that is looking out of my league as well. Not to be a shit but I wouldn't mind it if those couple of Risti (not the folks around here of course ) who have been buying up all these movements at ridiculous prices felt enough economic pain to let go of a few of their dozens of movements. I am a believer that in the current difficult economic environment those who know who have the patience and know where to look will be rewarded.
In general I would agree with your comment. Both hand wind luminor and rad have no date. Both dials tend to have "low crossbars on the A's". 45mm rads (183, 219) and many Luminors have clear case backs and the truth is that although you can find a decent looking movement off the wrist it is painfully obvious when off. IMHO and overall a closed caseback luminor will be closer to gen. I do agree that the Rad fits better under a dress shirt. If you do wear long sleev shorts to work and decide to build a collection you may find yourself looking for two button shirt cuffs.
