  1. Yes the price of DJ cases is becoming a joke. And they're getting cute, taking off the bezel and crown and selling those separately.
  2. My apologies, you are spot on, I was thinking of the 15xx case for some stupid reason
  3. The 1603 is a 34mm, 1016 is 36mm. There was an earlier explorer 5500 which was the same 34mm case as the 1002 so the 1603 might be an option
  4. DSSD. To me it looks cobbled together rather than designed. If we're talking about reps, bad dial errors and datewheel overlay fonts. I think generally though the reps are getting better, seems to be a number now that take gen parts. If we're talking gens, the price. They are way overpriced, good as they are.
  5. Andy I have a Yuki 1016 case coming, tracking shows "Released with charges" which fills me with trepidation, but it is as of yesterday sitting in the local depot "Waiting payment of charges", no doubt I will get a notification tomorrow............ Once I get it I will post up some pics.
  6. I totally agree, this is why I feel the Abyss would be better with its own identity, as a Rolex it just looks fake.
  7. No I don't think you're out of step at all, the main thing about a forum like this is the interest in, and love of, watches.I think though most members, not all, would be looking for the most accurate and nearest the gen rep. Artistic impression I don't have a problem with, it's the dichotomy between something purporting to be a real Rolex and that clearly isn't. If someone was producing such a model as a gen, in the way Project X and Pro Hunter are doing (but of course it invalidates the Rolex warranty and any such watch taken into an AD or Service Centre would be considered a counterfeit) then it would be more valid as a rep I guess. As I say, ignoring the gen movement issue as it's a personal choice, if the dial had Abyss on it I feel it would be taken more seriously as something in its own right rather than a fantasy couterfeit.
  8. I understand what you are saying, but to use the car analogy it is a bit like buying a Kia, putting a body kit and Ferrari badges on it, then fitting a Ferrari engine and then bashing it up to make it look old. No-one will believe it is either vintage or a Ferrari, and that sums up my bafflement with this. I can see it as a very attractive hommage with 'Abyss' on the dial and people would love it. With Rolex on the dial, all it does is scream "fake". When this hobby seems to be all about getting your rep as close to gen as possible it is a somewhat strange move to make it look clearly fake (I really don't see anyone doing this to a real Deepsea!). It is a hommage and should be labelled as such in my opinion. As regards the movement, the gen movement is very overpriced for what it is, an old auto movement, and a decent ETA would make better economic sense. But having said that, whatever rocks your boat. The fact I don't understand it is neither here nor there and if it gives you pleasure, that's what it's all about, so enjoy!
  9. As far as I am aware all the dial feet for the 28xx series are the same. I have certainly used the same dial for lining up date overlays on 2824, 2836, 2846 and 2783.
  10. I have to say this one baffes me, however well it is executed. When most are getting anal over the smallest detail that gives away the fact their rep is not a gen, others seem to go for a total fantasy such as this. And a gen movement..............why? The use of a Werthers Original for the pearl is an interesting concept though Oh and it looks like rubbing off the chronometer details have also rubbed off some of the depth markings on the dial..............
  11. As far as I know the 2784 should slot in in place of the 2846 without any problem. In my opinion it's a better movement too, seems to be slightly better quality though very similar.
  12. Should be the same. 2784 is fitted in some Tudor models.
  13. This is bad news for me, I have one on the way from Yuki right this minute I thought they had fixed the issue. I for one will be complaining!
  14. I suppose it is possible it depends on what the insert is made of whether it can be aged or not, though I haven't yet had one that wouldn't. Certainly paint (or whatever the coating is) on a metal backing will work. Sounds like yours is some sort of plastic. I put mine in neat bleach in a shallow plastic container, agitate it constantly (if you leave it, it looks the same until you move it when all the paint goes into the bleach and you're left with an overbleached insert - don't ask me how I know that) and take it out when you see some changes, wash it, dry it and inspect. If not enough, put it back in and so on. Some people dilute the bleach so it is slower, but that doesn't really work for me, I'm too impatient!
  15. It's one hell of a watch that's for sure, makes me hate you even more JoJo Side note to god - How come this guy gets all the good stuff and I get the rep sh*t?
  16. I have seen this one before but it bears repeating, regularly!
  17. With a bit of work on the crown guards, a Clarks crystal, a Yuki dial with some lume work by Zig, a slow beat ETA with a nice datewheel overlay and a gen insert and crown and tube, that could be a cracking watch :D
  18. Surely only an Irishman could love a watch like that...............................
  19. Beautiful work as always Ubi!
  20. Counterfeits? Surey none of use buy counterfeits? We buy reps! When you buy a copy of something cheap from China, that's purchasing a counterfeit. When your job gets moved to India because you're too expensive, that's your tough luck and the taxpayer has to support you. When corporations get copies of their product manufactured cheap in China, or move jobs to India because it's cheaper (and get counterfeit work largely!), that's maximising profit. It all depends on your point of view.
  21. Wow, you can walk and chew at the same time? You must be female
  22. I have been told by my local Post Office that watches and jewellery (and even watch parts) are NOT covered. I did once make a claim for some guitar strings missing in the post that I had sent to a customer, fortunately I had the Invoice of course and they paid out "as a goodwill gesture"! Paying premium delivery just makes the chances better that the parcel won't go missing. However that is the only thing I've had go missing in many years of sending and receiving stuff through the mail home and abroad with the exception of sending to South Africa which I won't do any more. My relatives there just have to wait till I visit for any presents due!!
  23. Apologies for some reason I had it in my mind that the 2893-2 was a problem to fit, maybe I'm thinking of another (non 6542) build. I guess you're probably right about the difference in thickness being the reason for the 2893-2 fitting better with the Singer dial as it is a 4.1mm thick movement against the 2836-2's 5.2mm. It's interesting that the rep factories have the correct case and bezel for the 6542, the case actually stamped 6542, but are using it for the 6536/8. I feel sure a rep 6542 must be in the works
  24. On the other hand, maybe the insistence on replacing with more modern parts is laziness on Rolex's part for not producing vintage replacements? It's like fitting a Floyd-rose trem to a 50's Strat, inconceivable vandalism!!
