It will be running past my Dad's place, and I'm going to take my kids to see it this afternoon. My daughter is very excited! And also, my brother found out he will get to escort the torch to the cauldon lighting on Friday. He'll be in "Red Serge". Canada and Russia are the favorites, but I think Finland, Sweden, Czech Rep. and USA will all have a chance. You never know about these short tournaments. My aim is to head over to Vancouver on a business trip on the 24th. I truly hope I am able to reschedule som things in my calender, because my Canadian business partners has sourced a couple VIP box seats for the hockey gold game on the 28th! Canada and USA can play for the bronze. Russian team has too many big egos... Ovechkin is bigger than the team... anything can happen (at least I hope so). I spent 2 days in Lake Placid in 1980 and it was a lifetime memory...I played hockey in college...My left wing lived in Lake Placid...As a resident, he had a special pass that allowed us to drive into the village - which was not open to anyone but local residents...Everyone else was bused in...A couple of us piled in a car and went - armed with limited cash and no tix...we were able to score hockey tix - seeing Canada play Russia and USA play W. Soviet Union team was "unbeatable". It was even bigger thing because it happened in the middle of "Cold War"... total embarrassment for the Soviets for sure. Still... I don't know if it is just me, but I now feel the town is buzzing now that it made it to Vancouver. More of the bigger formal ceremonies are tomorrow, but it sure was exciting to see it today. There were thousands and thousands of people cheering and lining the streets, and waving Canadian flags. Made me very proud. The one thing I don't get is why was Arnold Swartzenager invited to carry the torch? One of his election platforms was how evil Vancouver was for having a film industry. WTF? I love winter... and sports. So for me it's all good. Now if it could just quit raining in Whistler we could run a few events. Go USA...for that matter...go Everybody!!!!! I would rather see technical skill than a crash course for speed.. they talked about padding the pillars.. no amount of padding is going to stop bodies from breaking in half at those speeds.. 12 crashes today in practice runs alone.
