ubiquitous
I was just thinking the other day about how far things have come in the past few years for our hobby; how much the landscape has changed for rep watches and building projects, and of all the things I've had the pleasure of owning and putting together. What a wild ride it’s been. This doesn’t include all of the Rolex pieces I’ve done… But it does represent a fair amount of what I've owned and built over the past few years… I have found that my tastes haven't really evolved much over time, but my focus has narrowed. Franken DW 6265: Modified MBW 1665: Franken 16520: Franken 14270: Franken 16234: Franken 9411: Modified WM9 16610: WM9 16622: 1675: Franken 7032: Franken 5500: Franken 5514: Franken 6265: DW 6263: Franken 16520: A few to come... And a few recent ones that I’ve done for others: To my fellow Rolex loving nuts and crazies- Please feel free to post some of your past, present and futures as well! I think it would be fun and interesting to see where we've been, where we are, and where we will be Regards, //ubi
By-Tor
That's RWG history. The best franken-Rolex collection ever + the gen 1675 of course. All watches are top class. I don't even bother to post my past watches as they're not in the same level with yours.

bkwbkw
Speechless. I love every single one of these and in my 'perfect world', I'd have the same exact collection as yours. What 1665 dial is that? The date wheel bevel is lovely! And who's the source for the last case? Is that a yuki valve?
ubiquitous
1665 dial is a genuine dial The last case in the set is an MBW 5513 case drilled and fitted with the valve: That was one of my extras that I had accumulated when I built my 5514... Since it was a spare, I turned it into a 5514 for my friend watchmeister.

jmb
Maybe someday when I grow up I'll have a nice white Franken 16520... I don't have anything remotely in the league with Ubi's Frankens but this forum has caused me to evolve considerably. I started about a year and a half ago and was happy with: Then enter the two "instigators", Ubi and Lani, and with their help and generosity (and dark influence) I put this together: Emboldened by this experiance I started getting a bit more brave and put drill to case and began building these: Then I really got carried away: Now, I won't hardly build anything without a gen dial to start with: My tastes and expectations have changed quite a bit since bitten by this bug. In the beginning I didn't like anything without CGs or smaller than 40mm, now only 25% of my watches have CGs and only three are 40mm or larger... ubiquitous
craigb- Nice DJs! I like where you're going with the Jubilee dial. I also really dig that sunburst... J- You've put together some fantastic pieces! I have to say, I have a soft spot for that Tudor Chrono you did! And of course, you've earned the crown for Tudor king around here as well! Amazing what difference even just a year makes!

I've been known to dabble a bit in Rolex From time to time, I'll wander off and try some other brands... AP, PP, IWC... Sometimes Omega or Panerai... But I always come back to vintage Rolex! lhooq
Pace freddy, I don't think I'll ever tire of seeing your ridiculously huge Rolex collections. That's the reason why I'm here at RWG! Anyhow... My Rolex story begins in 1996. I was but a boy, and my thoughts naturally gravitated toward Boy's Size Datejusts. Here's the cheapo I bought at a Hong Kong night market: (I still love blue sunburst dials, and a franken DJ is definitely a future project. If only I knew someone who could help me with that...) Then I had a lean decade, in which I didn't much care for watches, but always wore a $100 Bulova on my wrist. Then a few years back, watches were on the brain again. And just like that, I was back into reps, and my fondness for the basic Datejust morphed into an unnatural attraction to the 1016 Explorer. This was my first Explorer rep, from Hont. It looks cheap, but I found it pricey at the time at almost $200. Not long after, I had my sole Sub experience, with a $90 DRSD from Trevor. To my shame, this is the only Submariner I own: Then the breakthrough! After months of wandering, I finally settled in RWG and wallowed in all things Rolex. My first post here marked my first build, based on a $100 Narikaa Explorer: Shortly after, I discovered (via something ChiMan12 wrote in RG about a $75 kit) the wonders of the DW Daytona: Yeesh! Is that what you used to look like? Nevertheless, I was thrilled to bits to have it on my wrist. After months of work and loads of headaches, the 6263 eventually became reliable and turned into this: In the meantime, my Hont 1016 got a facelift, courtesy of an MBW dial from Lanikai: After that minor spruce-up, everything went quiet for the middle of the year. And suddenly Fall 2010 became my Frankenstein season: Starting with the 1601-based Space-Dweller collaboration with Chi and Justin: A parallel project to the Space-Dweller was the 16203-based Explorer, completed a month later: Almost simultaneously, I wrapped up a very quick DW 6239 project, seen here with a relative: Finally, I started a Tudor 7032 project at the end of September. By mid-October I had a running example: But it wasn't until the end of the year when I could call it finished: Not shown above are pictures of my vanished funds.
