GarrettP1 Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 A post from a few days ago got me looking; where can I find a "Rolex" rotor for my ETA 2846? It's not going to fool anyone knowledgeable about Rolex, but it matches the brand on the dial. Suggestions? Thanks!
alligoat Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 Typically it's a little gold colored metal-like sticky that says Rolex on it- it sticks to the eta rotor. I've pulled most of mine off and threw them out!
GarrettP1 Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 Agreed about the decals on most. However, I've seen some older reps with the Rolex logo engraved on the rotor. If you have a nice ETA movement, it's not bad
JoeyB Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 The 1065 movement from the 6542 has an interesting rotor setup that might give some ideas. A Dremel tool and a friendly engraver could make that overlay for the ETA rotor, and drill and tap little screws looks to me as though it would be pretty cool!
JoeyB Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 And this is the overlay the Chinese factories used to use, and might still, on some of their watches. It's usually stuck on with some kind of sticky glue. Might even be able to Dremel that into shape of the 1065.
GarrettP1 Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 JoeyB, Good point there; this might be more appropriate as a home project to perfect engraving skills.
woof* Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 There was a Viet Nam 5510 a guy posted on RG last year his cousin or someone brought back. The guy pm'd me asking if I wanted to buy it several months later. It was pretty nice rep and I believe it had an eta movement with a Rolex cloned rotor. Even the movement was vintaged/aged and looked good. I remember at the time thinking it would be cool if someone made eta rotors that looked like Rolex like that one. Not just logo..but the shape and style. Never seen anything like that other than that watch.
woof* Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 http://www.timebymai..._2836_rotor.htm Well there you go! Has anyone bought from these guys?
kbh Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Bad thing is they have a 50pound minimum order, but the good thing is they have lots of other interesting stuff. (ps. How do you make a pound sign on an American style keyboard? Or Euro?)
GarrettP1 Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 I remember seeing that Viet Nam 5510. It was an ordinary ETA movement with a gen. looking Rolex rotor (appropriate for a 1030 movement). I thought it looked pretty sharp. I am the first to admit there is no practical reason to do this. I don't think I'm here at RWG for practical reasons.
JoeyB Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 (ps. How do you make a pound sign on an American style keyboard? Or Euro?) Alt key + 156 = £ Alt key + 0128 = €
Muaitai Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Bad thing is they have a 50pound minimum order, but the good thing is they have lots of other interesting stuff. (ps. How do you make a pound sign on an American style keyboard? Or Euro?) Hold down the ALT key and type 0163 on the NUMBER PAD, not the row of numbers on top of the letters.
Rolexious Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 I am missing the point? Seems silly since movement is not close to gen....?

danielv2000 Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 Bad thing is they have a 50pound minimum order, but the good thing is they have lots of other interesting stuff. LOL! Before continuing to read, I thought you meant 50 lbs! As in, 50 lbs of rotors!! In my head, that was a "wholesale lot" It's still early in the morning!
