dieselpower Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 Whilst leafing through the pages of our wonderful community I happened to notice that one country stands out as having possibly the greatest collection of highly skilled modders so I'm starting this argument - sorry - thread to see if you agree. My nomination for the single country with the greatest watch making/modifying skills is........ Canada! Discuss/argue:
KB Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 When it comes to our forums, Canada having Ziggy is a win every time. Ken
freddy333 Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 When it comes to our forums, Canada having Ziggy is a win every time. Ditto.
duke1973 Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 The US has a few good modders too, but most will only work on gen watches..... Jay @ MCWW (Motor City Watch Works) Jack @ IWW and Ken Setzer to name a few. Ole PBDad is in the US and has a pretty good hand.
dieselpower Posted September 10, 2012 Author Report Posted September 10, 2012 Jeez. And there I was thinking I was going to have hours of entertainment watching people from various countries slogging it out. Well, there it is then all hail the great Canadians. I suppose that's subject closed. BTW it's not just because of The Zigmeister, it seems that every time I read about a great build or modification, a new name may appear and lo and behold they are Canadian. Is it something they put in the water up there?
sgtguk Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Hey I wish some Modders would move to Oz
Utheman Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 The country of Texas has some decent modders as well.
ubiquitous Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Canada definitely has the Zigmeister Superpower...
panerai153 Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 I gotta vote for the Zigmeister. Never had a bad result, never even had a good result, they were all GREAT results!!
jtiis Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 I've never had the Zig fo a thing for me, but all of his posts make it clear he knows his do from his do.
Jurgenk Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Zigmeister is an incredibly talented person who is willing to share his skills and knowledge with this group-- the watches are one thing but being able to work with him takes this hobby to another level entirely. Not worthy, not worthy!
ubiquitous Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 I can think of a number of talented individuals in different regions globally. Skill and ability are not limited to one region or country exclusively.

KB Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Yeah I'm talented not in watch modding though send all your watches to me Ken
montrealer08 Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 The Zigmeister for president FTW!!! Best modder ever. I even had him work on my gens and I trust him 1000 times more than any watchmaker at ADs
ubiquitous Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Any around Australia ubi? I've dealt with a couple in the US which are great but the postage is killing me! Hmmmm... AUS specifically, no; I can't think of any located there, but there should be a few within the Asia region?
sgtguk Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Thanks ubi .....and Ken I would love to......when you start modding
ubiquitous Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Have you ever considered giving the mod work a try yourself? Might be something else to consider. It does add a very fun and unique facet to the hobby experience
sgtguk Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 I do a bit ubi but when it comes to building a piece from scratch my knees go a bit wobbly best left to the experts!
tessa Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 I do a bit ubi but when it comes to building a piece from scratch my knees go a bit wobbly best left to the experts! NORWAY has the best modders. Case closed
Londonboy Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Maybe you boys in Oz could share info between each other on this subject, surely somebody must know a watch smith that works on gens that may want a little extra moolah. I think Vac, BK, Rex and PB (and any others that I haven't worked with) aren't bad for us boys Stateside.
dieselpower Posted September 11, 2012 Author Report Posted September 11, 2012 I have to say. Here in the UK we are very poorly represented, in fact we are (as far as I know) not represented at all, pathetic . Such a shame, we have a great watchmaking history as well! Lets not forget Geo. Daniels (RIP), he had quite an eye for motor cars too. Sorry, didn't want to mention cars. Forget I said that. Do I need to don my flak jacket again?
