clem2192
Guys I'm looking for a bit of advice, I am was trying to sell a gen "SWISS" only dial...however, to my horror yesterday (when a potential buyer requested additional pics) I took the dial out of the watch box and packaging to notice I have somehow managed to damage the dial. The white painted indicies have been rubbed off on one side, I can only assume where I was careless the last time...... Is this salvageable or have I ruined a perfect dial ? Any help would be much appreciated !! R
SSTEEL
Thats buggered up for sure mate, and would need to be redone, and not an easy task for a watchmaker either

dropbear2008
The gen printing is usually quite tough. Did you wrap it in acetone ?

clem2192
No it was just wrapped inside bubble wrap and inside a small plastic bag - I really am at a loss as to how this has happened as I too though the printing was pretty tough ?? Mike on a bike
Strange to say the least and OUCH! is right, sorry mate.
Rolexman
Hate to say it but that dial is ruïned. A reprint is never going to match up correctly. It is now worth only a fraction of its original value.
clem2192
Thought as much . Just thought I'd ask the question as there are members that are way more knowledgeable than me. Thanks for all your input guys, guess just have to take this one on the chin! R
asciwhite
What you could do is remove the remaining IIIIIII markers and make a "homage" with custom black hole dial or something....
docthor
That's actually a good idea and since it's already ruined it couldn't get worse, could it?
cjjoyce1
Ah. Certain bubblewrap can outgas and cause plasticizer migration. It will react with the paint and. well, you see the results. Does the lacquer have any ghosting patterns when seen from a certain angle? I'd show the dial over at VRF. There are a couple well respected refinishers over there thay may help you out. irolexu
Is it just the ticks that are messed up? I'm viewing on a phone so I can't tell but if the lettering is good then just putting ticks back on shouldn't be a big deal.

Yes the lettering is still good, just the 'ticks' around the circumference that are stuffed !
payhomage
Damn. That's a shame. I would buy a few empty dial cases, they worth the few bucks they cost and will surely help avoid issues like these when u need to purchase a dial separate from its shell. Good luck man, let us know if you get it re-printed or successfully take the rest of the indices out.
candide2424
Maybe Michael Young could fix it?
TeeJay
I was going to say Michael Young could probably fix it, but, I fear that the costs involved in restoring the dial, would not be recouped if the dial was intended to be re-sold I would suggest asking Michael if he could convert/refinish the dial as a 16800 dial and then make a project of it, but I would give up any plans to sell the dial with the hopes of getting a good price... I'm sure Michael can help you though

clem2192
get the minute track reprinted and you´re done. Any suggestions of a re-finisher / printer who can do this?? I'm leaning towards the idea of cutting my losses, learning a hard lesson and move on. Plan was to sell it on anyway
