astonjenks Posted January 15, 2014 Report Share Posted January 15, 2014 Guys I wanted to share my new purchase with you today as we all seem to be liking the Big Pilot watches out there, well here's one with a difference. The attached photos show how this is a real beauty (no I did not create it!) and its serial number 4207024 dates it from 1912 and verified from the Omega Museum. Well, there's loads of very crappy looking POS from the Ukrane on EBay, but nothing genuine. With that diameter and movement it's not really that historical, it's just a re-cased pocket watch. Not to mention that wristwatches were not prolific (and were mostly worn by women) during 1912. The case is not original; we've established that. The dial and hands cannot possibly be original. The development and production of the Beobachtungsuhr is meticulously documented, and it's impossible that this dial design would show up more than 20 years before the earliest B-Uhr prototypes. To me it's like a sales listing for an iPod that once belonged to John Lennon. And I would really like to know more about that letter from Omega! And droptopman: You didn't miss this watch before! Wish I would have seen this--this morning. I love that watch. You posted a wristie the other day and I commented then. Great look with the nato strap. Imho the watch is not real at all. I know how it is. I do not like marriage watches at all, but I also don't want to tamp down people's enthusiasm about anything. However, these marriage watches are often surrounded by an air of deception, if not outright fraud. Why is this different from most of the reps we talk about in this forum? Because we know exactly what they are, and where they come from. The sales thread was very hazy about the watch's provenance, and threw in a bogus, bubblejet-printed "official letter from Omega" for good measure, so I had to ask for a clarification. This is a genuine 102 years old German Pilots Watch from 1912 as authenticated by the Omega Musuem (photo attached) and has been recased at some stage. It has a stunning dial, simply beautiful movement and for the price of a slightly modded rep it can be yours. Measuring a cool 46mm and 14mm thick the watch wears really well and with its contemporary Nato strap must be quite a unique piece, where are you going to see another? Consider some trades (nothing smaller than 44mm) Price including fees and worldwide fully tracked $750, grab yourself a piece of History guys. The watch is not 102 years old, it's movement is and such a watch did not exist at the time and the omega museum would not have this watch in it as it never existed.
