Southern Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 I have a Datejust 16013 from 1979 that is really beautiful except for the over-polished case. I've searched all over and cannot find an aftermarket stainless steel case for it. Anyone know where I can find one? The watch has great sentimental value so it will never be sold and likely will be passed to my son. So, I don't need a genuine case, just one that fits perfectly. Help me if you can!
preacher62 Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 There are several 16000 cases on the bay right now. Best bet...
Southern Posted December 13, 2014 Author Report Posted December 13, 2014 16000 case equivalent to 16013 case?
droptopman Posted December 14, 2014 Report Posted December 14, 2014 Try mymanmatt he may be able to help. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.
kbh Posted December 14, 2014 Report Posted December 14, 2014 16000 case equivalent to 16013 case? Case is the same. The 13 represents a two tone model is all.
jmb Posted December 14, 2014 Report Posted December 14, 2014 I would think a rep case would fit, but I've never tried.

irolexu Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Over polished? Why not just have the case repolished
ww12345 Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Overpolished generally means it has been polished so many times that there is a lack of metal which should be there. Ie: really pointy sharp lugs.
tomhorn Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Would be a crime to put a gen watch in a rep case. I'd find a new gen case. As others have said they can be found fairly easily.
ww12345 Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Yeah, and 1601 cases are kind of a dime a dozen.
tomhorn Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 He doesn't need a 1601 case, he needs a 160xx case.
ww12345 Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 That's what I meant. I just forgot to put the X after 1601. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the last digit of a 1601X case just specifying whether two-tone or white gold, etc.?

Southern Posted December 16, 2014 Author Report Posted December 16, 2014 Exactly what I'd like would be a genuine case. But finding one by shopping online/ eBay is difficult because it's tough to judge the case's condition, if it's been over polished etc. Thanks for all the replies so far.
automatico Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 The tutone 16013 case (link above) on eBay for $350 is not too bad because the gold bezel is worth at least $100 and the case does not look like it is corroded where the case back gasket seals. Corrosion is a big problem on older rolex cases. I bought a movement from L. Ruiz (the tutone case seller) and it was Ok.
