Great to see a nice replica of this. :)

It has two classic rep tells: Too short minute hand, and shallow engravings on the caseback. But all things considered, a nice watch.

I can understand items like the caseback engravings and other artistic items (fonts etc) not being right on a first release... but with modern measuring and manufacturing capabilities available these days, dimensions of measurable objects like hands or other machined items is just plain lazy and unprofessional IMO.

There is released an "ultimate" of this.

The new version is way better. Uses decorated ETA-clone, just as the gen uses Sellita .. Sapphire with AR-coating, better caseback, dial and hands! Even the buckle and the number plate on the side of the case looks true. It is expensive though, above 300 USD..

I havn't bought a new rep in two years, but maybe this convinces me to step in the ring again. :)

IMHO, I think it's in "super rep" territory.   Sure, if I had gen next to it, there would be some things I can nit-pick about, but it really does look spot on.

You pointed out, the hour hand is a hair short.  But I really don't think anyone would notice.  I don't think it's a tell that it's a rep.  I really don't think the hour hand is that short, maybe I'm wrong?

I've been considering getting one, I haven't bought a watch in a few years either.  I do love how the gen & rep does pay tribute to the 100yr old original.  That said, it was originally part of the aircraft's instruments, not a watch.  I also think a "coin edge", turning bezel would have suited the watch well. Lastly, the PVD versions are technically more authentic because that's how they were originally sold.

I've noticed the price is starting to come down a bit... But the "good" version is close to $300 (although it's starting to drop closer to $250 by some TDs), which I still think is a bit steep for basically a simple large watch... It's like Zenith's version of a Panerai (46.5 Without the crown) when something like an IWC Pilot's chrono or Breitling chrono are in the the same price and quality range.

I hope I'm not wrong, but I think it'll drop closer to $200 (I hope), and maybe then, I'd pick one up.

That said, as much as I like it, there are a bunch of watches on my list I want much more than the Zenith.

I bought this watch but was disappointed in it ... unlike the SS, the bronzo doesn't have A2824 movement inside, it has a crappy, noisy Miyota, which I didn't notice till it was too late. Not sure if this is the case for all the sellers.

I don't think the Miyota is a bad movement for this watch, it's a 9015 beating at 28,800bph according to Puretime's site. Not sure why some have the Miyota 9015 and others have a A2824 and A2892 though :-S

The rotor in mine is very noisy compared to A2824 it's more of a giveaway than anything on the case or dial.

Its a shame as its a lovely rep. I'm informed that only the miyota will 'work' in the bronze case not sure why that might be.

Just open it (as should be done for every rep to grease the gaskets and check the screws (in this case also you need to check the lugs screws too) and put a SMALL amount of oil in the bearing.

The 9015 is actually a very very good 28800 movement and a part the bit of noise (stay FAR AWAY from the Bell&Ross 123 if this is a problem) it is extremely stable and less temperamental than the eta clones.

Does the second hand stutter when winding like the Omega's?

Absolutely no.

It is as smooth as an eta. Only the rotor, if dry, is a bit more noisy winding in one direction only (so when it spins in the opposite direction...).

Here the smoothness:

Just to say I got mine back after some watchmaker attention to lubricate the rotor and it's perfectly acceptable now.
