Admin
Dear members Because of the recent events with paypal and closed accounts, we are still strugling with the economics and it looks like we will be doing this for a while ahead. The ratio of members who select to re-upgrade their memberships after they have been cancelled by paypal is still very low. That being said, let's not start another discussion about membership upgrades and who should, who has not and who has. This thread is for information about the ads and for feedback on this particular issue. I will post more about that in a new thread and you can post in this thread if you feel you have anything to contribute with Because of this, we are going to try out some new ads here at RWG. One of them was activated by accident about a week ago and it looks like these kind of ads are more "interesting" than the regular google ads, judging by the number of clicks it got. This ad is more of an adult oriented ad, but it's still PG, but might not be concidered work safe by some of the members. It will be a mix of google ads and the example below that will be shown from now on. Other ads might be added to the mix also. This is, as I said, just a test, and I will run these ads for at least 14 days to see the development. If these ads doesn't generate more revenue than the google ads, they will be removed. Thank you for your understanding.
TeeJay
Although I have no personal objections to the content of the ads, I don't think that they will be of much use as revenue generators, as the majority of posters here (from what I have seen) appear to be people in long-term relationships... Not that there's anything wrong with enjoying the view
watcher
I find them unacceptable and it will probably make me come on here less than normal. I find it uncomfortable that an ad is telling me where I live and how to find girls in my area!

But as my dear old grannie used to say, better out than in, so start clicking! (Except my boyfriend)

FxrAndy
I dont have a problem with it, ok it is not work safe but in my job any thing that is not work orientated is not safe any way. If it creates more revenue go for it. @ Vic, glad to hear a ladys point of view on the matter and a sensible one at that.
smilingbear
I also think that the ads make the board not work safe - I would not be comfortable browsing where my boss or a client could see this. This might result in a bit less posting and browsing from me, and if that happens to everyone it could reduce the activeness of the community, which is a minus. Craytonic
another board I pay membership on removes these for those that pony up.... would be a nice touch and incentive to pay. Alternatively, I don't think I have ever clicked an ad and would be happy to pay an additional couple of bucks to cover whatever income you expect from my viewing. KB
I'm sorry but I need to point out that as stated it is the lack of member upgrades that is forcing our hand here, therefore it is really a bit much for non VIP's to be voicing discontent. Well, if more people like you would support the forum witha minimal donation, then this might not be something that they are forced to do to keep things afloat. I am incredulous at those who are so quick to tear apart an idea, yet they spend much time here and contribute nothing to keep the place alive. They stayed online for about 6-7 hours. Those 6-7 hours generated the same revenue as the google ads usually do in 1-2 weeks.

There are many members who have donated to the forum and have prefered this instead of an upgrade. Besides, I appreciate feedback on these things, from all members. If I didn't, I would just have posted this and closed the thread

I do think Cableguys idea about making it ad free for so-called "VIP" members is a pretty good compromise.
hambone
If the numbers work that well based on such a short period of time then by all means keep it going. Where I live there are massive billboards out for all to see advertising hookers which make these little ads very conservative by comparison. I seriously doubt that these ads will perform that well over time, but it is worth a shot. Oh, and just to ad this: No personal information about you or you location is revealed. The ads uses your ip-address to locate where you are and then displays the appropriate text wich is the nearest city. It uses the same technology as the signature some of the members here use;

The clincher will be if the ad revenue keeps up, or if it was just a click out of first week curiosity, which I suspect it was. "Find Sexy Singles in Miami! Find The Sexiest Women In Miami! Find Hot Women In Miami!" ...lot of lonely guys out there.
Admin
Well, Vic. I'm afraid we would actually loose a lot more members and people would get A LOT more suspicious looks from their colleagues/boss/etc. if we start displaying "Sexy men near you" and naked guys in the ads

Ken Even if I was a fully paid up VIP Member, I know that my opinion on certain issues would continue to be ignored, therefore I am not prepared to spend money for a 'privelage' I would not actually receive, and prefer to contribute to the forum via advice, discussion, and when ready, reviews.
