My favorite comment is also about said avatar:

I see Ms. Barret in this thread. No offence intended.

OMG! Do people not read my comments on this. Sniff, sniff.

I don't care! I like those avatars, and I find it RIDICULOUS that people would complain about grown men wanting to see pretty females in theirs.

Okay, there are some issues regarding nudity, and the workplace. I understand that. But I sure hope no one complained about "exploitation" of females in their notices to Admin to censure the racy ones.

God, I hate feminists. They take the fun out of life.

EDIT: In my haste, I forgot to thank JFreeman for his thoughtfulness towards me. Thanks! No worries on my account though. :)

Who said it was feminists?

Most of the complaints about the racy avatars were from people like me who didn't want to be judged by co-workers or people in the same houses for looking at low-rent sites. It's hard to explain to friends that you're actually spending time on a treasure trove of horological wisdom when they decide to see what the fuss is all about and it looks like a teen boy's fast-car forum. It's nothing to do with feminism and everything to do with good taste.

Now, I don't mind the occasional heaving bosom, it has been noted, but when it starts getting out of hand, it cheapens the place. It's like Broken Windows, in my opinion. While you can look at Tech's blue-topped avatar and see that it's quite tasteful, even if it is a stripper-titted babe, checking the lob-rate of her mammalian protruberences, someone else could then assume you're supposed to have porn avatars to fit in.

The thing that I actually find funniest is that these guys want to be seen as sexy women. I don't have a problem with that, but you have to admit it's funny.

Ah, no. I meant if someone had specifically mentioned "exploitation" in their PMs to Admin.

Not the general topic of provocative avatars, which I agreed people in workplaces have more right to complain, without being thought of as either repressed or controlling.

Thanks for the reading tip! I will check that book out. It's just up my alley, taste-wise.

We know what you're trying to do, Mr. Pugwash, and I'm here to tell you, it won't work. So there!

When I first joined RWGI, one member used a photo of his girlfriend as his avatar. She wasn't a conventional sexpot, but was more of what I would describe as an "ideosyncratic beauty." And from this member's handle and posts I couldn't tell whether this person was male or female. So I was really intrigued, but eventually figured out the truth.

The question I always ask is, if an avatar is meant to represent you in some way, what exactly do the sexpot avatars really say?

I think it is a german comedian called "Bully"

He's a famous TV sketch artist, and I was hoping people would have mentioned him in that thread of mine! :p

BTW, have any of you watched the Romy Schneider trilogy on the Empress of Austria -- "Sissi"? Take Sound of Music, and treble that in America, to get a sense of its cultural importance -- it's a staple at the holidays, and even Castro allows it to be shown in Christmas, in Cuba. There is a Sissi fan club in Havana!

Anyway, Michael Herbig (yes "Bully") is coming out with a hilarious ripoff of the series: an animated film called "Lissi und der Wilde Kaiser" -- out this October.

I CANNOT WAIT.

That men like women's bodies? :)

...I'll put this out there, though I know a lot of members may be offended because it hits close to home. The ONLY time I have anything approaching a problem with sexy avatars, is when I find out it's their girlfriend's boobs, bottoms, jiggly form, etc. That is a little sleazy. Yeah, even if it's just that they are proud.

But I don't think we could imagine our dads doing that about our mums, can you?

Sure, but that's kind of like saying you like air, or water -- it's such a given [to me, at least] that men like women's bodies that it hardly seems a distinguishing personality characteristic.

By the way, I like parrots that wear sunglasses. :D

If you believe Kinsey, at least 10% of all males are gay. I'm guessing the guys who place slinky females in their avatars are making damn sure no one thinks they're part of the 10%. *g*

Ajoesmith explained about his avatar. Who is Trish? :)

Sorry, I just know Jenna Jameson and slappers like that. Oh, and BTW, my other favourite avatar is Rolli's:

Actually he is a Japanese comedian called 'Okamura Takashi'

When i lived in japan i saw him on TV quite often, very funny

Wow, seriously. And I've lived in both Germany and Japan! Could've sworn it was Herbig.

Man, they do look similar... :D

By the way, Herbig made also an hilarious movie called "The shoe of Manitou", where he parodises the old Karl May movies...

Nanuq's forays into RWG1 avatar nostalgia* prompts me to post this one: nothing special, I suppose, but for reasons I've never quite understood, it haunts me to this day.

snuker10zfkf8.jpg

I once very politely messaged it's owner explaining my fascination with the image and asking who the person was - the story, if you will - and never received an answer.

The member in question, "Roomate", seemed to be a semi-lurker: I'd see his nic show up in threads, but it was fairly rare when he posted.

And as Forrest Gump used to say, "That's all I have to say about that."

*For those who interested in excursions down Memory Lane, clicking on the old RWG membership list turns up dozens of old avatars that progressively burned themselves into our subconscient memories before fading out of sight - and out of mind.

It's Israeli actor/comedian, Ze'ev Revach in the 1975 movie "Party at the Snooker":

Small world, right? Talk about a needle in a haystack...

My favourite avatar is Scooter's, without a doubt. There was also one with either Grover or Cookie Monster posing as Jack N. from"The Shining."
