cc
Today was a wonderful experience and a great turnout for our SoCal GTG. I've never organized a GTG and didn
rek001
How fun! I wonder what the waitress and bus boy thought about your tabletop. Thanks for the pix, some gorgeous watches there. When I see these shots I'm so jealous - I'm sorry but Chitown peeps are a bunch of slackers, a GTG has been tried about 4 times and nothing ever comes of it, bah! Victoria
How fun! I wonder what the waitress and bus boy thought about your tabletop. Thanks for the pix, some gorgeous watches there. Dude, as CC said, Orange County is used to seeing this kind of loot in GTG, I am SURE. Did you ever see pix of the famous Carlsbad GTG for the Hammer this September? That was awesome. When I see these shots I'm so jealous - I'm sorry but Chitown peeps are a bunch of slackers, a GTG has been tried about 4 times and nothing ever comes of it, bah! I was searching for an unrelated topic the other day, when I came upon a very sad thread. Some member from South Florida organised a lovely GTG, and not one person showed up. Not an one, and the person took photos of the lovely restaurant table, all decked out...poor guy. You know, I wouldn't either, but I'll say that straight off the bat, not promise and then don't show up. No offence to anyone who couldn't go today, I'm sure -- but it's rude, and there's no excuse if you don't send a text message or something beforehand or during it. (Reason I wouldn't go: I've been to other GTGs and since my enthusiasms are male-centric, I tend to be the only woman there, other than the odd wife or girlfriend. It's very awkward, since they are not interested in the same stuff the guys are, and have no idea what they should speak to the snooty British girl who doesn't drink, about...so with regret, no GTGs for me)
cc
I wonder what the waitress and bus boy thought about your tabletop. ha!!!!! ohh she was lookin....................... and the busboy too............... @vbarrett: regardless if your enthusiasms are male-centric, it makes an event like this exciting. a woman who can out-wit most guys and talk watches?? plus and dbl plus. my wife a would have a blast with you as she is fiesty too. freddy333
Looks like a fine time was had by all, and I am glad you made it home with your watches intact. I would guess you did not have a police escort? Not sure about all of the watches tabled, but I do know 2 of them -- those 2 vintage Daytonas of Avitt's have become franken-lore here on the east coast. Vbarrett -> You are not the only tea-totler. rek001
Vic, come on now, why wouldn't you go to a GTG? I'd go, and I know I'd be the only woman there. So what. Maybe at first it would be a bit awkward, but after awhile I don't think it would matter really. You'd miss out on a wonderful opportunity to meet some nice peeps and try on watches, get ideas for future purchases. BTW, we did try to have a Chicago area GTG once, 5 people absolutely promised to come, and when it came time, there were only 2 of us who showed, and Trusty Andrew sent gifts for us, about 10 sets of watch repair tools. It was a real shame, and I soured on trying to organize a future GTG.
LegendofSpeed
It was a great time... and those Rolex franken's were ridiculous.... looking at them... i don't even know what adjectives to use... they were niiiiiice.... cc's 063 was beautiful too.... and seeing The Zigmeister's work on a sausage dial up close like that... well, mine was going to him anyways but now i can't wait for it to be done... as for women as GTG's... my wife almost came.... but then decided to sit it out... maybe if her new yachty had come then she would have wanted to floss.... you know, i think the key to a gtg is to have something low-key.... we just went to the neighborhood Corner Bakery and pulled up a chair... no signage or what-not.... as for the shot of all the watches on the table... well, i wanted to have a draft! Rxus
That was fantastic...I would be a tad bit worried having all those watches on a table at any restaurant here in south Florida. But you guys seemed to not be worried. I would defintely show up to any local gathering we could assemble here in the 305, I must have missed the details on this meeting you speak of that no one showed up. Great pics by the way. Guest avitt
That was a really good time It was great to meet some avid collectors, with a real appreciation for watches. For me, the highlight of the event was the busboy who came over to see if we were selling anything, and then proceeded to point out the only gen on the table (the Monte Blanc chrono) as his favorite That kid has a good eye Thanks to CC for making the arrangements
tech
Awesome...thanks for sharing and the posts.... i was wondering if any of the attendees now have other collecting aspirations after seeing other reps in the flesh? Most of my buys are based on other members experiences and of course the dealer's hype....so I never really get to see the rep first before making the buy... ...did that make sense? By the way, I was never much of a vintage Daytona fan untill I saw Avitt's masterpieces - holycr@p! Definitely works of art and those two Daytonas are one of those watches that pictures do no justice - have to see'm in person to appreciate just how fine they are. I look forward to the next GTG and I will bring a few more works in progress to change it up a little...
Guest avitt
Thanks for the compliments on the Daytonas. What was really nice about this event is that everyone had their own individual specialties...it made for a very nice variety. To answer tech's question, these GTG are absolutely ideal for doing a little hands-on "shopping". For instance, I came away with the firm resolution to pick up my first Breitling and B&R reps. Guest Sql_pl
Great watches great pics.... But those Daytonas..... OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Avitt what's the story? Both Val72? Please tell us!
Guest avitt
Avitt what's the story? Both Val72? Please tell us! Thanks again! Yup, the two are VJ72's. Here are a few earlier threads, which provide some background (the watches have enjoyed some "evolutionary" advances over time, so some of the earlier pics may not still apply): Watcha Doin', Honey? Conditioning The Dw Case This one's been simmering on the back burner for a while What does 12528 equal?

Most of my buys are based on other members experiences and of course the dealer's hype....so I never really get to see the rep first before making the buy... ...did that make sense? I cannot decribe Avitt's daytonas.....they are BEAUTIFUL!!! It's one of those things where you HAVE to see them in person because pictures just don't capture its presence.....s.. @tech: i am going to research these frankens and Jake48's B&R. The great thing is that you can visually compare and try one the watches instead of looking at a 2D picture. i have added a B&R, vintage daytona, and a portuguese to my list......and my list was empty before the GTG........ @rxu: there were many gens surrounding us.... we just played like it was no biggie..... @avitt: thank you guys for coming!!! yes i remember the busboy. he does have a great eye.. @jake48: i still want your IWC!!! just finally got some to visit RWG and read the posts....today sucked at work as always. I'll pm you..
bruce79
Sorry I missed it. These GTG are great because in addition to meeting some fellow watch aficionados, you get to have a look at tons of watches...many of which you may have been thinking about getting yourself. It's like you get to sample them all...
Kollektor
Looks like a fine time had by all. Beautiful Daytonas! Funny that you poured all that steel and leather onto the table.

It would be crazy if the joint got robbed during your GTG.....the crooks would think they hit the jackpot. Those DW's are SWEEETTTT by the way.
