Nanuq Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I was in the AD tonight looking over an Explorer I for the delectable Ms. Nanuq and was wearing my DRSD. The saleslady glanced at my wrist and saw Oyster as I handled the Explorer. She asked about my watch and I said "It's an old 1665." She looked hard at it for a second and in her eyes I could see she was thinking "ewwww it's all old and scratched up!" Then she asked the question: "You paid sixteen hundred and sixty-five dollars for that?!" All I could do was smile. I said "well it IS pretty old...."
hambone Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 She said that to you? How tacky. Next time tell Miss Scrunchy face that you got your moneys worth and that her sales technique could use more polish then your watch.
offshore Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I know that the next time I was in that store, I would seek her out and say- "Gee, I'm really worried I may have paid too much for this, after what you told me last visit. Is it possible for the watchmaker/manager to give me an estimate of it's value?" When an appraisal was completed, the look on her face, would be just like the DRSD.... PRICELESS! Offshore
tgchrono2 Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 women can sell well jewelry but for sure not watches.....
stevethebest Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 ha ha ha such a funny story! ... but you must really rely in your mods/modder Nanuq!
tonyp1 Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 (edited) Reminds me of the time I brought my 1680 into the A.D. for service. The sales woman was sure it was probably fake because "rolex crystals dont scratch". Then she asked "Where did you purchase it? Ebay....." Edited November 22, 2007 by tonyp1
Victoria Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 women can sell well jewelry but for sure not watches..... Perhaps you'd like to rethink that generalisation, Tigerdaytona, especially with its "for sure" condemnation. I think I could sell watches just fine. Certainly Ruby and King have for many years...
Jetsons Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Great story, Nanuq! You should keep your eyes peeled on this dealer. Who knows, you might be able to pick up one of those over priced 1665s. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
FxrAndy Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 And these people get employment in an AD!
iceberg1459 Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Once a rolex saleswoman claimed that the bezels of modern subs are made of ceramic, as far as i know only new gmt masters have ceramic bezel, right?
Omega Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Well, next time you should wear a Daytona. If she's asking again, tell her it's an "116520"...
By-Tor Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 I bet average Rolex owners don't have an idea what the DRSD is, either. Real WIS and collectors are very small percentage of the actual Rolex customers.
chubbchubb Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 It is so hard to find quality personel these days... not only at a watch AD though... how often does it happen to you that you actually know more about the product than the salesperson (Me, very often)?
