I was in the AD tonight looking over an Explorer I for the delectable Ms. Nanuq and was wearing my DRSD.

The saleslady glanced at my wrist and saw Oyster as I handled the Explorer. She asked about my watch

and I said "It's an old 1665." She looked hard at it for a second and in her eyes I could see she was thinking

"ewwww it's all old and scratched up!" Then she asked the question:

"You paid sixteen hundred and sixty-five dollars for that?!"

:bangin:

All I could do was smile. I said "well it IS pretty old...."

She said that to you? How tacky. Next time tell Miss Scrunchy face that you got your moneys worth and that her sales technique could use more polish then your watch.

I know that the next time I was in that store, I would seek her out and say-

"Gee, I'm really worried I may have paid too much for this, after what you told me last visit.

Is it possible for the watchmaker/manager to give me an estimate of it's value?"

When an appraisal was completed, the look on her face, would be just like the DRSD.... PRICELESS!

Reminds me of the time I brought my 1680 into the A.D. for service. The sales woman was sure it was probably fake because "rolex crystals dont scratch". Then she asked "Where did you purchase it? Ebay....."

women can sell well jewelry but for sure not watches.....

Perhaps you'd like to rethink that generalisation, Tigerdaytona, especially with its "for sure" condemnation. I think I could sell watches just fine. Certainly Ruby and King have for many years...

Great story, Nanuq!

You should keep your eyes peeled on this dealer. Who knows, you might be able to pick up one of those over priced 1665s.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I bet average Rolex owners don't have an idea what the DRSD is, either.

Real WIS and collectors are very small percentage of the actual Rolex customers.

It is so hard to find quality personel these days... not only at a watch AD though... how often does it happen to you that you actually know more about the product than the salesperson (Me, very often)?
