Mentor a Noob..

Hi All !!!

With our raffle/supporter drive going full guns !! (thank you for the support gang).... it seems apropos to post this now.. as I was going to wait until after the raffle.. but may as well ride the wave while the swells are breaking..

This is to ALL members Old and new.. if you have just upgraded to "supporter" we need your Kokua (cooperation and support)

It would be great if we could form an unofficial "mentor buddy" system...

When a Noob posts for the first time.. if "one" supporter could attach himself to the Noob as a 'mentor' to show him the ropes so to speak.. this does not have to be knowledge of watches and movements.. but just to point them in the right direction.. the dealers section.. reviews.. Toads Noob guide etc.

Most importantly to give testimony "why" we should all be at least "supporters" (upgrade) boils down to .8 cents a day for a year..after all, it would be condsidered "proper etiquette" to chip in and take ownership for ones membership !!

PM them, and support our home by informing them of the importance of supporter upgrades and if they need direction .. as we all do.. guide them

again you can be a "new" supporter... don't think you have nothing to contribute.. you have yourself and the support of RWG's community !!

it is up to us as members (rank and file) to make this place the most rockin Forum Bar None !!! IMO it already is.. but let's not rest on our laurels..

The Admin team our the guardians of the gate .... let's help by doing our part .. so the lights can be kept on 24/7 365 day's a year !!

Aloha~Cheers

Lani

Kind of like the Big Brothers program, but big noobers sounds like a porno title.

Great idea lanikai!

exactly Fidestro !! Big Noobs !! me likes...

the new age title would be 'Net working' I believe... hey if it's good for the sports coaching community then it's good to go here to !!

pm your little noober.. and advise him of the "proper" thing to do as far as supporter upgrade... start him/her/shim.. whomever on the right foot/hand .. whateva...

sometimes people feel the need to be "INVITED".. so let's INVITE em in da HOUSE !! B) L

This is a great idea! Maximum supporter count, minimum best sub questions (although I find those quite endearing)!!!

One question though: how do we make sure that the poor noob won't have to fight off 20 well meaning guides PMing him about upgrade possibilities? Could shy them away...

Yours kindly

Val.

good Q Val.. I wanted to see how many would respond to this thread.. and obviously so far it seems to be GREAT !!

let's keep it simple Val.. just post in the intro thread that the noob is posting.. that ... I will be "your RWG Big Noob Bro".. or something to that effect.. just tag the thread with a " I got this one"

I like it, and would gladly step up as a mentor.

take action.. great.. Ronin

What if we did a "Mentor" tag like we have Gold, Plat, etc?

you 'tag' me... I 'tag' you back.. your "it"

Oh this is a brilliant idea, definitely something that I would have loved to have had when I started off a few months back, this would have saved me a lot of money.

What happens if you have too many people crowding on one noob, i.e. if it's a really fit woman?

The back off...I got it covered. ;)

I try to reply to all inquiries I get and to welcome aboard the new comers who post intros. I'll help out any way I can. I usually have a pretty open door policy for inquiries.

Great, Lani. Will do this. I find your idea very good!

We'll see how this works. Maybe give some feedback after a few weeks.

Great idea Lani.

Im in to help out if I can.

We could draw up a list of willing mentors, and then have someone attach the new members to that list as they introduce themselves. That would prevent us all jumping the same member. So when a new member joins the forum, that name could be added to the next available mentor eg;

Member A - New Member X

Member B - New Member Y

Member C - Awaiting assignment to member

There would be nothing to stop adding multiple members to each mentor, and nothing to stop us adding new mentors as and when they want to volunteer.

That would be an excellent idea, it would make it very east for people to know who to go to if they needed assistance, and might save the mods from having to deal with the more mundane questions :)

It's threads like these that I miss 'TTK'. Lemme see:

...............Oooooh! I just love noobs................but after three I'm quite full  ...............they do store quite nicely tho'................ but you have to stack them as cord wood................standing them upright in the corner on their little sloped noobie heads won't do.............they keep falling over

Nope. Just not the same.

wonderful plan

i had an idea i wanted to propose to the Admin team,

i was thinking maybe we could assign a number of well informed members to monitor the introduction area, and maybe give them a special tag like "

mentor" or something, they'd be around for all the questions noobs might need, and they could have the noob guides ready to be PMed to all new members

taking care of new comers would give them a feeling of belonging, which will encourage them to support this community

ofcourse this is just an idea, need alot of more details but that was the concept..
