ball of duct tape will get most rep case backs off. this is why i prefer the 16610 subs. the ceramic is REALLY hard to rep. too many noticeable tells even on the best reps. honestly though, if you sit there and look for tells on a rep, youre gonna find them on even the best reps. you dont wanna go down that rabbit hole. you cant come back. just enjoy the watch for it is. most people will never know the tells. besides, everyone assumes a rolex is fake anyway.

Id say do what I did, buy a second hand sub LV. Never regretted it. Stands out from ordinary subs, can we worn at a dress up even or with casual. Unique enough to be a conversation piece (50th anniversary story) and since I've bought mine, the price has shot up!

Your question sir is one for the ages. The definitions seem to be quite flexible depending on which forum you visit, and whether you are a buyer or seller!! I believe that we here on this forum are a bit stricter in our definitions, but they are definitely open to interpretation! But to partially answer your question, I would say that a franken has several crucial genuine parts, let's use Rolex for example. I have a Rolex day/ date it has a genuine dial, Tudor hands, genuine bezel, crystal and crown. Is it a super franken? Not in my estimation, as it has an after market case and movement, also an aftermarket strap w/ a gen buckle. It's a very nice watch, and highly frankened,but not a super franken. Most folks here believe that to have a super franken, the preponderance of parts have to be genuine. So let's say you build a Rolex 1680, MBW case, bezel, genuine insert, pearl, dial, hands 1570 Rolex movement w/ gen open 3,9 Silver DW,gen crown, gen 580 endlinks, gen 9315 or or 93150 bracelet/clasp. That sir is a super franken in my estimation. In the truest sense of the word, to a purist on a genuine forum, a "Frankenstein is composed of all genuine, but non matching parts. We obviously have a somewhat looser interpretation here. Hope this helps.

Knocking hasn't produced a screw that I can see, but I'd prefer to have a pro or semi-pro open it and give it a look-around for anything more invasive of course. I'm very much a novice and love the watch and don't want it damaged. I showed it to a watch repairman at a jeweler nearby; he refused to open it and said most repairmen would as well. He said the screw could have gotten caught in a gear...he also tried to convince me even replicas are all under warranty, but that didn't make sense to me...but bottom line, he said send it back, don't try to open it.
