  1. I agree with both statements, Shawn. Even on my side of the ramp, I don't see many bizjet drivers wearing expensive watches.
  2. LOL sooo true! Gotta save that per diem! At my company there are a couple of the Citizen Navihawks (and every owner said it was a gift), a Gen Breitling Avenger, a Tissou T-Touch, and my 1675 (I used to wear an Omega SMP GMT). I am the only pilot who wears a true GMT, and the only one with a Rolex - gen or rep. Everyone else has a "general watch" from Fossils to G-Shocks.
  3. I fold mine into my socks. Protects them. Hides them. I've had my things rifled before and never lost anything of value -
  4. That sounds like the Puretime version. The one from Andrew or Josh have gen construction with a metal retaining ring and flat metal spring. Unless something has changed since these were the rage in 5512/5513 builds.
  5. To add to what freddy said, some purist gen owners feel a watch that is 100% gen parts but purchased separately and assembled by the owner is a franken. In other words, if it didn't come from the factory or service center that way, it's franken. It's an interesting (silly IMHO) opinion - a watch that was purchased in 1965 and has been regularly serviced by factory service centers may have had the bracelet replaced in 1972, the crystal and crown in 1977, the dial and hands in 1980 with luminova replacements, and crystal and crown and bracelet again in 1990 along with many movement parts, But that watch is considered non-franken while a watch carefully researched and assembled with 100% period correct NOS or used parts is a franken.
  6. I've had the same problem with dial feet and glue too. While not a perfect solution, mine has been to solder the dial feet to the spacer ring, then glue the spacer to the dial. Flux is key. This is my 1675 dial setup.
  7. On 2824's I've found the majority of friction on the overlay comes from the date jumper maintaining plate and the minute train bridge. I've filed down the plate and thinned the top of the lip on the bridge (just don't mis-shape or bend it or the date will never change right) to help - I also use white "Tacky Glue" on overlays. It sets slow and is thick so between the thick glue and the thinning of the metal, the problem is largely solved.

  9. Ugh. I've had those come apart on me too, and you can't press them back together either. Good advice.

    B~~...

Fantastic! It's interesting how the original in the movie had it on an 18mm NATO, and how Bond still wore it with a dinner jacket - a bit casual for him
  11. The gen 702 really makes this a standout stunner
  12. @ Winno - those are some of the best memories I have of my kids growing up too. We read every night. @Shaun - you're on brother
  13. Thanks guys. In re-reading my post, I realized I'm slammed enough to not make the poor assimilation joke I was going to make. I had to resuscitate my father-in-laws computer. Ed had a DNR order. I couldn't do a thing.
  14. I'm not one who posts pity-party stuff, and I'm not looking for anything here but a place to write. I'm not a blogger, and I don't want to put this up on Facebook, because. ..well because. My afternoon certainly falls under the "no good deed goes unpunished" category and I spent it helping elderly men. First off is my 87yr old father-in-law. The man knows nothing about computers and despite being very educated and well read, has always in all the years I've known him put up a wall and blinders on when it comes to anything regarding them. His computer has NOTHING on it except what normally comes with Windows (XP mind you) AVG, and Firefox...oh, and Taxcut that I put on there because I do his taxes. He doesn't do anything with it except use the web, and play freecell. Yet somehow, someway, every six months he does SOMETHING that messes his computer up in a major way and at least every 2nd or 3rd time it actually requires Windows to be reloaded. Today, was one of those days and his computer needed resuscitation. Today was more frustrating than usual because for some dang reason, I couldn't get a sound driver to load right. Then after an hour of futsing with it, got it to work. Total time at this point - 2.5 hours. Then my father-in-law tells me "this isn't right" Why? What's wrong? We then have a 15 minute discussion on how he's telling me all he does is turn on his computer and it magically comes up with "Foxfire" [sic] already open. He spends 15 minutes telling me he NEVER had to click on the Firefox icon before. We also have a discussion where communication isn't really happening as he's trying to figure out how "'Foxfire' will still know who [he] is since we just had to put all that back on the computer" He is, of course, referring to his Internet provider, but... *sigh I know he's been failing a bit lately, and since this problem occurred a few weeks ago and he hasn't used it for a while I chalked it up to his memory being poor. But this was both sad and frustrating at the same time. So then I leave him to go visit an elderly friend from church. He's a retired priest in the Episcopal Church and has been a really great guy to know. His health has really tricked him this last year and he's ended up in care facility. Mentally, all there. Physically, the body has had enough. He likes to hear about my travels, and we talk about philosophy and current events and from time to time, he likes to be read to. Today, while reading Cider House Rules, Ed died. I don't know what else to write. . . I need a drink.
  15. Yes, it has a display back. I bought it from Andrew years ago, and yeah, it was something like $108 at the time. I couldn't find currently listed on his site. The only issue with this GMT hand is it's a tad too long. On the gen, the tip comes just below the 24 hour numbers. On this, it goes about 1/4 of the way through them. If you want to really get anal, the angle of the points on the hour and minute hand are off too. But I've been really happy with this, especially on a price/value point.
  16. The Omega Seamaster GMT's are fairly decent out-of-the-box. The blue faced "bond" one I have has the HE valve slightly off and the poor pearl that's suspect on nearly every non-super version Omega, but the dial is outstanding and the crown guards are too. The bracelet is pretty accurate too. The black faced versions are equally good, especially if you can find one with the proper 2 color 8 and 6. Silix has one OME088 for $78 bucks. Not a bad watch for that little money. http://www.silix-prime.co/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=116_231&products_id=2309
  17. You know, man, judging by the pics you posted, I'm gonna postulate that the damage was done by an elderly driver who not only thought they were being really careful pulling next to your car, but had no idea they actually hit it. My father in law - who self declared himself no longer fit to drive - once called me loudly complaining that someone had hit his car in the parking lot of the grocery store. I looked at it and it wasn't much more than a paint swap. I buffed it out for him in about 10 minutes. He calls me livid about a month later that it happened again, so I paid more attention this time. It took me all of about 30 seconds to put together the scuff on the bumper, the color of the paint, and the scuff on his garage door jam to point out he hit the garage every time he pulled in. It looks like someone who doesn't have very good depth perception and situational awareness about the nose of their vehicle misjudged their swing into the space and because they were going so slowly didn't notice they had actually made contact with your vehicle. Sucks, but hopefully your comprehensive deductible isn't very high.
  18. Looks like an Ingod dial which are notorious for having delicate paint. Good news is that in a proper case, most of that damage will be under the rehaut/dial opening. What "parts" are you working from?
  19. Gorgeous catch! I have one similar that I swap out on my datejust - with silver face, gold markers/hands. I really liked the look of the Hamilton thin-o-matic I have that's got a similar dial and 10k case, so I swap out the jubilee from time to time with this. I think it's pretty classy that way.
  20. I have two overlays from cubic works I bought about 1.5 to 2 years ago. Took for-e-ver to arrive. But unfortunately I couldn't use either of them as the printing is offset. There's a thread about this in this forum a few months back. I agree with what alligoat said.
  21. As much as this sucks, the joke is really on Mr. Douchey McBag. He stole a really nice franken. And any place he tries to unload this is going to call it out. It will be very easy to find this if it pops up on ebay or any of the watch forums for sale - the "watch out!" section on the rolexforums might be an interesting place to keep your eyes on for a while. The 1655 case with it's 6mm crown is going to stick out like a sore thumb to all us know-it-all's (no offense RA) plus the NTD dial and Clarks bezels also have their tells. We'll find it if he tries to sell it. And God help him when he does. The wrath of these forums have been known to ruin people.
  22. There are at least two cracked/broken jewels too. Proceed with extreme caution buddy.
  23. That clasp is wrong for a C&I. The bracelet and end links look o.k. though This is what you should be seeing.
  24. Why is everyone out of DG3804B GMT movements? I've tried every source I know, and their websites either don't show them, say they're out of stock or I've ordered them to later get an email saying "sorry, we are having trouble sourcing these." Did I miss the memo on this?
