  1. could be all seconds, rolex has to do something with all the parts they steal..i mean systematically destroy from you when you send your watch for servicing. could be he bought them from a watchmaker who had a parts account with rolex and held on to the old crystals he serviced then sold them all when he retired.
  2. people at best buy dont know what the hell theyre talking about, i know, my friend used to work there, gave me his staff discount all the time and always had to push monster products and their service plan. the mark up on monster products is 65% and the mark up on rocket fish which is bestbuy house brand made in china can be upto literally 1000% for hdmi cables. slide the decimal spot over one to the left and thats what the staff can purchase them for. and to tell you the truth the rocket fish hdmi cables are just as good as the monster hdmi cables, in fact the RF brand push more bandwidth, not that it really matters for typical runs of 12feet or so, its ALL DIGITAL!. as for the insignia having samsung guts i would disagree, perhaps it shares certain components made by foxconn in TW , BUT, the samsung wouldnt allow insignia (best buy house brand) to use their video processors and other technology they developed like that DLNA or whatever it was. why would they? the insignia is probably generic audio and video processors bought in bulk the screen may be made by LG, who also makes the apple cinema display but if you think its samsung parts dont kid yourself. they probably share the same generic parts thats all. insignia used to be good for the price but with brand name prices dropping theres little point in buying one. the reason it looked better in the store was probably setup, some customer probably messed around with it before you saw it or it had a bad f connection connection streaming the hd stuff. if set up correctly the samsung would probably be crisper and more vivid side by side. but in the end all that matters is that you like it, and hopefully got a good price on it. now if you said you chose samsung over sony there would be no question you did the right thing, sony is way overpriced especially when competing with samsungs displays.
  3. skip the yuki hands, if the dial cant be had for a decent price there are better options like the ingod dial, or even the very decent mbk dial costing only in the double digits yuki has a slow beat eta?
  4. BTW GEN........................Vs.......................MBK MBK
  5. how i would approach it, start a pilot hole with a smaller bit being drilled square against the outer lug, start the hole in reverse operation so you dont get "walking" then use the proper size bit being square with the inner lug through the pilot hole. if i lacked confidence to do it myself, just send JMB a message
  6. i guess for the price, if even the experts cant tell, then its better than good for our purposes...right?
  7. id say no. its better than good enough, all you can do is make it too large. its agreeable the PT is obviously tiny and needs work. MBK leave well enough alone
  8. that was my assumption hows the double link that connects the bracelet to the end link Dizz? is it a closed double loop or can it be pryed open/apart unlike the gen?
  9. old thread i just discovered... looks good, a couple questions tho whose case is that? and whose bracelet/endlinks are those?
  10. patience in the sales forum, wait for someone who needs cash and has to sell out of necessity. if patience is not your virtue the bk TW sub is the next best thing thats currently available
  11. +1 its all about the details, WM9 all day long, they even got the hands correct and the superlume just makes it that much more awesome. even the bracelet was wonderful. but moving forward what are your options? TW sub really, its a good rep, gen like construction in a decent case. it wont be a wm9 but theres nothing that can be done about that now.
  12. mbk case will fit a gen 5513 which is quoted as the same diameter as the tudor dial 26mm the cheapest dial and hands option is probably from yuki, pair it with a swiss movement and it can be done for your budget, but dont expect a bracelet
  13. yeah ruby s was the best. too bad she / he never returned my pms or emails when i was trying to source one. ETz came through... then apparently stole a bunch of forum members money
  14. expect to spend $100 for the he valve mod in parts. try the WO 703 tube, i have both the gen and the WO, they ARE identical, i believe clarks is slightly shorter in length
  15. crown and tube are stock, these are MBK pieces, one has a slow beat ETA the other a modern 2836 right now im in love with the white markers, but all it takes is seeing a beautifully aged dial to change that
  16. they all require work. the best starting point if you want something truly great in the end would have to be MBK, even yukis case which costs twice as much needs work and even has a wokky rehaut that can not be fixed, theres current threads on this issue here. the hardest mod on the mbk is probably the crown tube swap the rest is just tedious sanding and polishing -a bit of art really. in the end fixed up the MBK would look the best, fits a gen dial (confirmed), has CGs that can be worked with unlike the new cartel version that has stumps that are better suited for a gmt. remember -you can subtract metal, but you can not add it. im still collecting parts for my late 80s gloss WG 5513 dial build that im basing on an mbk chassis. parts seem to be hard to come by right now tho, this is hopefully temporary. the case (which is the best part) is about the price of a PT 1680, which you could also try. the pt includes; the correct movement, case tube, lugholes, bracelet, pin bars. clasp, dial and crown need replacing, cgs need doing, retaining ring needs machining, gen dial / insert may or may not fit... some MBKs ive built
  17. i enjoy them both... different look for a different day...
  18. SteveM had a complete F serial for under $3,200 US last week. with the exchange thats only $3050 where i live i think thats what im aiming for.
  19. beautiful! LOVE IT! get a better clasp -that coronet is awful and the 1/2 adjusters on the clasp are incorrect for the sanded flip lock. maybe polish the chamfer on the lugs, but other than that AMAZING!
  20. thats what i do. put it in as is, measure how far it sticks out past the tube with calipers, pull it back out, measure to be clipped, cut it... grind the clipped end to a round point so it doesnt cross thread and demagnetize the stem. if its too short screwing it down will cause the watch to manually wind, expect to maybe use 3 stems on your first attempt to get it right.
  21. Sly watcha got there? im building something similar right now, gen WG dials in great condition can be had for $150 still. i would avoid the josh/andrew case, the cgs ruin it and that is something that can not be fixed. it might be worth exploring PTs 1680 and make it up to be a 5513. you already get the slow beat movement, 2mm holes, a better bracelet with closed endlinks.
