  1. Actually I'm quite happy with my 3717 as it stands now, so any more mods to it are further down on my list of projects. Right now I'm working on a DateJust build, so my attention is focused there. Just waiting on a couple of parts to arrive from raffles-time and it will be time to put things together. Obviously the order of my projects is subject to change if the right parts show up someplace ... I would consider a gen dial and hands, but doubt I will go all the way to a gen case. Of course if someone sells a complete 'genenstein' at the right price, I'd be tempted to snatch it up. Love the 3717, so I will always have one in my collection. I am also looking for a Damasko DC56 because I like the pilot watch style.
  2. Buy the 3717, or Mk XVI then. Swap in an ETA datewheel and you'll be good to go for that price. Significantly less if you find one on the sales board.
  3. Thanks! Back to the 2824 it is then ....
  4. While they may not be 'super reps' out of the box the nice thing about many IWCs is that they can easily get there with some minor mods. Not to mention that there are a few suppliers of gen parts if you want to take modding to the extreme. You can essentially build a 3717 out of all gen parts for less than buying a gen.
  5. The 3717 is available from any of the trusted dealers here. There's only one version currently being produced (the v3), so it would be the same watch from whomever you go with. To date there have been three versions of the 3717. If you are buying from another member, don't buy a v2. The lume on the dial is incorrect to the gen.
  6. a bit off topic, but has anyone tried this movement in a DateJust case?
  7. Guess I need to grow up too. I wasn't thinking 'Tinkerbell' but I hate all watch designers that think they need to add these 'logos' to a sweep seconds hand (Omega 007 also comes to mind). Reminds me of Invicta. Beautiful watch otherwise though.
  8. If this helps ... mine is a v1.
  9. Wow ... thread was resurrected from the archives ... If memory serves it was only with Vac for a couple of weeks. Here's the full story for the late comers. Vac does a great job on these.
  10. One other hint is to keep a list of the equivalent movements and the watches you find them in. For example, look at Ubi's Daytona pic above. The Movado and Ebel movements are both able to be used for the same builds. Not everyone on the Bay knows what they have, so they often don't put the movement description in the ads. Same thing with many pawn shops. Targeting those donor watches is pretty much the only way to find what you need at a decent price these days.
  11. He regularly has it on during tapings of The Voice as well.
  12. their builds are normally of good quality, and they use ETA movements. I like the NavB Chrono. Looks a lot like an IWC 3717. Have heard negative things on quality about DeBaufre on the other hand, which was spun off to be the US brand.
  13. Classic 2000 was my first mechanical gen. Despite being small by today's standards, I still wear it regularly.
  14. I would be in for one of the chronos (BR126) if they ever rep them.
  15. If still available, you won't find one better than this ....
  16. Would love to pick up a B&R Vintage BR126.
  17. +1 on all the others that said go Samsung for Android.
  18. bought a sterile PAM063 from Homer. Can't remember his eBay name though. Top notch seller.
  19. Love his Tom Ford for Men on me, and his Black Orchid on a woman.
  20. Tom Ford for Men has been my 'go-to' for a while. It's not overbearing, and women seem to love it. And, his Black Orchid will pretty much get me to do anything for any woman wearing it.
  21. Again, ANYONE can already do this, and has been able to for years. I had a woman who pulled up next to me in a car at a stoplight on campus one day and said 'nice car!'. We chatted briefly, not exchanging more than a first name. Two days later she called me. Said she got my name from the DMV via my license plate number and called information for my phone number .... in 1985. Sure, the internet, cheap computing power, open records laws and a huge demand for consumer information has made this easier, but it's being going on for a long time and hasn't been that hard for the common man to get access to personal information.
