I wasn't surprised when for instance my GST arrived because I'd seen enough photos to know it was gorgeous. The unexpected beauties are rare because to arrive in our posession we've already decided to pay for them.
The positive is that we keep buying reps based on the quality of those we've already bought and the fact it's so unsung is a testament to the quality we're getting.
While I agree with your point entirely, I have to pull you up on this bit.
Where are people tearing down nativity scenes?
And wasn't the ten commandments removed because it was in a courthouse where the ten commandments contradict the law?
Over on TRC, Angus informed us that the IWC Aquatimer Chrono is not being repped. The Cousteau is being made, but it's the only one.
Looks like a new one for the RT Polls.
Some watches live for a bracelet, like the GST Chrono, but most need a strap. I find the Sub is happy with either, due to the comfortable Rolex bracelet, but Omegas need canvas/leather/rubber/etc., and if your Panerai is on steel, you're missing something exciting.
See, this scares me. A clock movement for almost $2000.
The reason people don't give away secrets is because these things can be resold for almost two frickin' thousand dollars. They're not going to tell you how to get one for $50 when they can get it themselves and pocket well over a grand in real cold hard spendable cash ... from you.
You can't expect anyone to be that helpful when you've got these kinds of numbers floating around.
Mrs Pugwash stole my 183. She wore it about the house but was a little self concious taking it outside until someone posted pics here of (iirc) Nicole Kidman and Heidi Klum sporting a Panerai.
Since then, I've resigned myself to getting another Radiomir.
If you find standard-looking hands that fit, I'm interested. There are pages and pages of hands in most hororororlororological catalogues, so I reckon they must be available off-the-shelf.
I've been disappointed with Every Omega I've ever got, once the new-rep glow has worn off.
Why? The steel straps are uncomfortable and not as fine-tunable as straps that clunky should be.
However, almost all of them have been woken up with a leather strap, or even the black NATO on the MoonWatch. Thank $DEITY that I've managed to get almost all of them on leather otherwise I'd have a dark dusty corner of my watchbox marked Omega.
ps. Just in case anyone was wondering, I now do in fact love my Omegas as is only correct. Oh, and the Moonie wasn't as bad as the others.
Good question. I'll now have to think about it.
The watch I was surprised to like was the 196 I won here. It gets more wrist time than I thought it would.
